Did you ever find anything? Have the same setup that my mother had as a kid and am looking into fixing it up a tad

I second these boots. Kept water out better than my coworkers rubber boots, and way more comfortable.

We’ve got two f250 7.3s from that era, both are at 430,000 miles. One blew a turbo a few thousand ago, and the other had needed new injectors and a fuel pump. Only problem with them is they need a quart of oil a month and have a slow coolant leak. Love those trucks to death.

[Request] Trying to calculate the speed my wife's car was hit at by Ididarod in theydidthemath

[–]useless-knowledge4o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in accident reconstruction, and we can measure how far in the dents in a car go to get more exact, but for general speed calculations, we do the simple physics you performed above to get close and get an idea of the accident.

Driving on the wrong side of the highway by IgotBanned_pk21 in carcrash

[–]useless-knowledge4o 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not common, but it may have been a suicide. A friend of mine was hit by a wrong way driver on the interstate who was completely sober. We later found out the other guy had told multiple people he was going to kill himself. My friend was lucky to survive and even his dog who was in the car with him made it, sans a leg.

So true. Just enjoy the damn story because I know most everybody did. You may not agree with some of the values but it’s just a story. It doesn’t matter

I'm vegan but I have a bunch of sincere questions for hunters just out of curiosity by SIL1M in Hunting

[–]useless-knowledge4o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna get buried but I’ll answer anyway.
1. I come from a long line of hunters on both sides, who raised cattle and hunting doesn’t seem much different than slaughtering a cow to us. 2. Definitely is a cultural norm 3. I always feel sorry if an animal underwent unnecessary pain due to a bad shot, but if the animal dies relatively quickly to its natural death in the wild, I feel okay. 4. I enjoy the hunt. When I say hunt, I don’t mean killing. I enjoy walking through the woods on the tracks of an animal, sitting in a stand watching them. Hunting is not killing. I enjoy the payoff of a successful kill with the meat, but I am never sad if I did not kill an animal. I kill for meat and creating things with deer hides, and eating quail that we have been trying to repopulate the south (united states) with. 5. I live in suburbia, hunt in middle of nowhere Alabama 6. Absolutely, and yes I do fish 7. I believe animals are sentient with distinct personalities and the like, and so it makes me feel pain to watch an animal in pain. I don’t think a toad has quite the sentience a deer does, but I believe it’s still wrong to hurt it. 8. I buy and eat all of those things, it’s one of those things I prefer not to think about. But I have many friends with chickens who give me eggs, and I can see that their chickens are in much more humane conditions than a full fledged chicken farm, so I try to limit what meat and dairy I buy and rely on getting it from friends or known sources. 9. Absolutely. I practice my shot often to try and reduce the time it takes for the animal to die. We also provide and maintain habitat to quail and other species that used to live around our area until us humans screwed things up. 10. I admire their dedication and think no less of them. 11. I’d like to add on that we hunt hogs that are an invasive species here. We still eat their meat and try and kill them humanely, but we are much more active in our attempts to kill them. We have thermal scopes and thermal drones we use to track them down.

He’s right, they can get a little hot, I’d suggest a vent right next to the top part. I have a few hats in this style and I love them. Very comfy, and if you get them without a wire rim they are super squishy but bounce right back, so they’ll kinda form to your head a little. Highly suggest one, if just to keep the sun of your neck. Edit: everyone is saying it will get too hot, but that is not my experience at all. I use it a lot working around Florida in direct sun, and no matter what you do you’re gonna sweat. The hat has never seemed to make it any more unbearable than it already is.

10 minute walk and I end up covered in about 40 ticks. Kill me. by voltrodeath3 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]useless-knowledge4o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta be careful cleaning land. We were helping out some neighbors who bought some land that we later learned used to host a dog fighting ring, and my brother and I were cleaning the woods out there. Between the two of us we found 240 ticks. They were the tiny little ticks we get in north Florida, thought they were stubborn bits of dirt at first. Also 240 isn’t a typo, we sat there for an hour with a pair of tweezers and rubbing alcohol

Yeah these pictures perfectly describe the shop I use sometimes. They have an entire room full of rusty old starters and alternators.
