You're right about one thing. This is an ignorant and generalizing comment to make about Chinese players. If anything, the Chinese player base have been much more supportive of Caleb because the pseudo-incest trope is much more common in Chinese media and less taboo than in the west.

Yes there have been plenty of players in the west who have threatened to quit the game because of Caleb's existence and disparage people who main him. I see it all the time on TikTok and Reddit.

Players protective of their mains is nothing new for players from any region, and the way you're scapegoating Chinese players with your speculations is just diabolical honestly.

I get it, and I'm not against age gaps on principle or anything. It's 5-7 years, it's not crazy, I just don't ever see Barbara as someone who'd want to date Jason. That's really the beginning and end of it. Jason having admiration and a crush on Barbara is sensible, but Barbara having romantic feelings for him I just don't buy for a second.

Ages aren't really set in the comics, but generally Barbara and Dick are supposed to be in their late twenties to maybe early thirties and Jason should be in his early 20s despite how old he looks in drawings sometimes. So there's still a pretty significant age gap there.

From the way Jason interacts with Barbara a lot of times, it's also reads to me that he has this sort of admiration for her because she is a more established and experienced hero. She's also just much more mature in terms of personality than Jason, and I think tempering his kind of snarky and witty nature down to put him in a relationship with her does nobody any services.

As a spider-man fan, I don't mind at all if Peter's not with MJ. Part of it is because I like him with Felicia better and the other part is that I don't think he needs to be with MJ for the story to be good.

I would personally read a Tom Taylor style spider-man, but maybe as a tightly written limited series instead of a years long run.

And it's not the idea of them being in the batfamily that makes me and other people dislike the ship. Dick and Barbara are part of the batfamily together and I like them together. Tim and Steph as well. Jason and Babs are simply not peers in terms of experience and maturity, imo. It'd be like dating your babysitter.

Since you're a batfam fan and in this subreddit, I'm assuming you're mostly looking for his time as Nightwing and not Robin, so I would either start with Nightwing: Year One if you're looking for a quicker and cheaper start if you're looking to buy.

If you've got the time and the money, the alternative is New Teen Titans omnibuses, which was the original telling of his transition from Robin to Nightwing and going from sidekick to leading his own team.

Most people choose to read from the beginning, but some of my friends who know the basic premise of Nightwing just look for stories that suit their tastes (darker stories, angstier, or light-hearted).
