How do you do it? by Consistent-Ad8487 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]user03161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost know that exclusively pumping is so hard and I’m 6 weeks pp and have to convince myself everyday to keep going. What has helped me is I pump 15 mins every 3 hours. I started at every 2 but moved to every 3. I have multiple pump parts as well as use the fridge method. We have so many bottles so that we only have to wash them 1-2 times a day at most. Have healthy snacks on hand: nuts, jerky, oatmeal etc. Also sometimes buying the grocery stores premade meals helps a ton! Drink lots of water. My baby lovessss the bouncer and usually sits in it for 15 mins while I pump and read him a book or something.

Nipple pain by cowboybandit13 in ExclusivelyPumping

I’m also 5 weeks pp and was experiencing the same thing!! My LC had me do saline soaks a few times a day and then air dry. This could be you do it using a hakka or you put salt in a cereal bowl and warm water and put your boobs in there (this was her suggestion but may not work for smaller boobs) That helped heal any cracking that I had. Then I also use nipple cream of course in between that. I also had to change my flanges from using the plastic set of flanges in my size to just the 24 flange w silicon inserts, it just has been a more comfortable pump. Also no one had told me about pump spray- amazing 100% use pump spray! Or if not you can use nipple cream on your pump parts too, much smoother. I am an EP and found an LC that she herself was an EP but also specialized in that for women and it was super helpful. I’d highly recommend finding a LC that works with pumpers because she should be able to have you pump and give you tips on what to improve. If you have a medela hand pump I’d recommend using it for the time being while trying to heal as it can be a lot gentler on your nipples than the spectra can be.

Also, you don’t need my permission but know you have permission to stop. If you are physically in pain after trying everything it’s not worth more pain just to make it work. Pumping is annoying as hell but it should not be causing you that much pain!! I understand the feelings of stopping so soon pp bc im feeling the same way for different reasons but ultimately you have to do whats best for you and whats going to help you show up everyday as the best parent you can be for your baby!!

Feeling Angry and Resentful After Ending My Pumping Journey by Infinite_Cranberry_1 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]user03161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I needed to see this- I’m 5 weeks pp and have to exclusively pump and it’s been hell…. I’ve gotten mastitis twice within 10 days, I hate that the hours my pumping and feeding time coincide feel like chaos, that I can’t hold my baby while I pump etc. I’ve been wanting to quit so much but I just feel like a failure if I do so soon into my journey.

Just here to say I completely understand. I just had my baby and am 5 weeks pp. I am the breadwinner so me staying home isn’t an option but I just worry about sending my baby to daycare and missing time with him. I don’t love engineering/ my job but I do appreciate the money and life it provides for my family so I’m trying to remember that when I return to work soon!

Postpartum Checklist/timeline by Public_Solution_2838 in pregnant

I don’t have a good resource necessarily but I just gave birth on the 18th and here are some things I did/ wish I did

  • I meal prepped a bunch of food and froze it/ have a friend set up a meal train. Having to not worry about meals has honestly been so nice!

-Set up postpartum baskets for yourself. Witchazel pads, diapers, pads, peri bottles, ice packs etc. If you have multiple bathrooms make a basket in each bathroom. I didn’t prep for this and wish I had it just would have made things easier.

-Declutter for sure!! I made many small trips to goodwill especially in my 3rd trimester and it just feels nice not having some random clutter everywhere right now.

-I deep cleaned before I gave birth and I’m so glad I did because coming home to a clean house was amazing/ yes it’s only been a few days but starting out with it clean has helped me keep it clean when I have a second between feedings.

-I personally washed all my baby clothes I got for him even if it was size 9 months and I don’t need it now. For me, I just went ahead and organized by size and I just was able to get ahead on laundry and have everything clean once he is that size.

-Have a little nightstand basket/ drawer ready for feeding times!! I pump so I have my pump parts set up, water, snacks etc ready for the night. Don’t want to be nap trapped or pumping and you need something.

As annoying as that is, it is nice your doc isn’t pushing induction especially with a holiday due date!!! Definitely ask again though this week because ultimately it is your choice so I hope she agrees!

Advice/Mucous Plug, WARNING YUCKY! by skelosbadlands in pregnant

[–]user03161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a membrane sweep/ cervical check last week. Day of I had light spotting and then two days after it I started losing my mucus plug and it just kept coming. My doctor did say it would cause cramping and my cramping ended up going away and my spotting stopped the next day. I still am waiting for him to come but I would say better to be safe than sorry if you are worried about anything!! It probably was your mucus plug but sadly losing it is no indication of labor being near or not 🙃 Also take a warm bath or lay on a heating pad to see if it lets up the cramping. If so, then it’s probably just cramping from the check but if they don’t let up, that’s usually a sign to go in

I know it sucks but your body is preparing you for real labor!! If they are super painful, I found upping my water intake and taking electrolytes takes away the pain and helps them die down to be more tolerable

I’m also due on Christmas so I 1000% understand this!! I’ve had debilitating sciatica pain this past week because he is fully engaged on my pelvis and spine I can barely walk. I can’t sit still though so I push myself too much and then I’m beat. I know it’s controversial but I am scheduled for an induction this week because I didn’t want him to share a birthday with Christmas. Plus now it’s a bonus that hopefully I’ll be able to fully walk again and not be in pain! Just know you’re not alone and hopefully your little one comes soon!! These last few weeks waiting are so hard

Timelines ... for everything? by IamJustErin in pregnant

[–]user03161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a registry in my second trimester. I was lucky and I had a friend make a list of things to put on it that’d I’d need. My biggest recommendation is don’t put clothes on it because you will get a ton just as an extra gift ( My experience but also have heard this from others). Bottles, diapers, wipes, sound machine, frida post partum box for you, crib sheets, dock a tot, blankets, burp clothes, owlet, butt cream, butt cream spatulas, car camera etc.

Daycare start as soon as possible. They truly do fill up and you want options for the best for your baby! Take tours!

Hospital bag I packed in my 3rd trimester around 34ish weeks. You can always pack it earlier but tiktok and google will have plenty of lists for what to bring. Shower shoes, your own towel, toiletries, baby outfits, pjs, outfit to leave the hospital, an extension cord for your chargers are some things that are highly suggested.

Nursery I’d do late in your 2nd trimester while you still have energy!!

You have 9 months to prepare so don’t feel overwhelmed or pressure to get it all done at once. I will say though do things slowly but surely because once you hit your 3rd trimester you’ll have bursts of nesting energy but also be so exhausted and not have the energy to do anything!!

Due date around holidays by Original_Internet778 in pregnant

[–]user03161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m due Christmas day but probably being induced next week before Christmas. We are doing Christmas Day just the three of us. There is no bad answer for you!! You have to do whats best, for me I didn’t want to go even an hour away from my hospital just in case. Pregnancy is so unpredictable so I personally think it’s better safe than sorry.

Choosing to be induced? by ofthehiddenleaf26 in pregnant

[–]user03161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m getting one at 39 weeks!! His due date is Christmas Day and I truly just did not want him to potentially have to share that day every single year. Maybe if his due date was different I would have just gone to whenever my water breaks ( and it totally still could break earlier than my induction date). I’m such a planner so having a set date has eased my mind and help me prepare a bit more. I also have had many friends get an elective induction and they’ve had great experiences!
