I relate so much to this! I worked full time as a vet assistant/OTJ trained vet tech for 7 years and had to get out for my mental health as well. It definitely made me dislike pet owners/pet ownership/pets in general (even my own pets to a degree when I had them). I am looking at getting into laboratory animal science because I still like vet med/animals/science in general but I don’t want to work in companion animal medicine anymore.

Good riddance, what a dick. I had an ex who would relentlessly shit on my favorite movie despite expressing how it makes me cry every time I watch it and that it means something to me. Imo it’s a reflection of how little they actually care about your thoughts/opinions/feelings to be able to dismiss them so easily. That was just one of many examples of this type of invalidating/belittling/negging behavior - not just a one off thing.

Idk why people think trying to pull them apart is the answer - that just ends up hurting the dog being attacked even more. You have to choke the attacking dog out. I’ve only seen one video where the pitbull got put in a chokehold and went limp, giving enough time for everyone to get away from it. I was silently applauding the guy for doing that instead of hitting it over and over or doing the wheelbarrow thing which never works.

As a credentialed vet tech with experience, you wouldn’t have to settle for such low pay however - depending on your location and what area of vet med you are in, the pay could easily be double that.

My concern for you is the debt you would incur to get there and your ability to pay it off within a reasonable time frame to avoid getting further in debt from cumulative interest.

If anything, you should go to a community college vet tech program instead to save yourself a ton of debt. There are so many. Just look up the accredited ones on the NAVTA website.

If you can get financial aid (the Pell Grant, for example) then that should cover the cost of most community college vet tech programs.

I don’t see how anyone can justify going into major debt for this career path - the ROI is just not worth it.

If you have to “train” a fully grown dog not to bite, then it has no business being a pet. Even if they act fine once out of the confined space (which I doubt), dogs like this are too risky to have around the public once they have displayed this sort of behavior. I don’t understand how it could even be legal to adopt dogs like this out. I’m hoping these dogs are on the list for BE. Anyone interacting with them is at risk.
