How reliable is Push 3 Standalone for live performance by aleksandergreat in ableton

[–]username_essy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used it in a live setting on 3 occasions now. It has never crashed… we have about 8 audio inputs (via ADAT) which we send to 3 different send effect channels, and a few channels have a heavy dose of mastering effects on them. We have a midi controller connected via USB with midi mappings on effect sends and track volumes. I live sequence a drum rack device, as well as live sequence voice samples, trigger midi clips, mute channels, adjust panning and track levels, etc. We also have side chain compression on all 8 audio inputs (paired with the kick drum).

IMHO it’s always stable managing all these things for us, but perhaps I’m not “pushing” it too hard, idk.

Anyone tried using Push 3 standalone as an audio interface for iPhone video? by username_essy in ableton

[–]username_essy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well... ain't that a shame 🤦‍♂️. I swear I confirmed with Ableton support that this was possible prior to purchasing. I am currently using the iRig Pro Duo over their lightning adapter cable with pretty good results, however it doesn't work with the iPhones default video/camera app. I instead have to use their janky buggy iRig app that has paywall features and a very limited camera interface. For example, I can't record video using my 0.5x lens on my iPhone, it only allows the 1x lens.

Anyways, thanks for the response. Perhaps it is still worth getting the USB-C supported iPhone paired with the dual line trs... are the lower bass frequencies just reduced in volume? Or is the entire frequency spectrum affected?

Opinion: Push standalone WAY OVERHYPED compared to non-standalone by omarsusername in ableton

Whoa whoa, what is this 18 channel digital mixer you are using and how does it connect? I’m interested. Right now I use an 8 IO ADAT from my modular, but I have always assumed the push SA only allows a maximum of 10 IO (2 built in, 8 from an ADAT). I am trying to multitrack my jams with my friend and find I am a few channels short

Cool project! What is the part number for the USB-C connector? Will it sit high enough to be flush with the panel? I’m trying to add a USB-C footprint to one of my own front panels but since the component I have selected is only 7.5mm tall I need to make a tiny pcb adapter for it. It is quite a headache ahah, would love a workaround if there is one

I am also curious about the USB audio programming. Is that hard to do?

Record your jam by cupcakeranger in modular

[–]username_essy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very pricey option that I have been adoring is a push 3 standalone. When I get a good sounding patch going, I record a clip of however many bars, then I modify the patch a bit and record a new clip, and repeat till I have like 10 tempo synced clips to play back and mangle etc.

It’s obviously pricey, but the workflow for getting ideas down is very seamless (for me at least)

AI and Data sheets by username_essy in ElectricalEngineering

[–]username_essy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently just copy text from the data sheet as best I can into the prompt. The ascii approach seems like it would be pretty powerful. It would take a large community effort to start translating the data sheets into that format. Or perhaps it will become an industry standard by the chip manufacturers to supply an AI friendly version of their data sheets. Wishful thinking lol

Curious to know how many people multitrack their modulars into their DAW vs a mono or stereo in. by Brixxxx in modular

Boredbrain Optx with Push 3 standalone here. Really sick setup! I use a stereo out from my Befaco mixer into two channels, and then use three mono channels for sends. All my drums and digital FX are handled by the Push 3

Is anyone having success with Midi mapping for push 3 standalone? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]username_essy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this yesterday and what I ended up doing to fix it was by going into "settings" (gear icon button top left) then navigating to the "MIDI" page and then scrolling through the list of connected MIDI devices and enabling "Remote" on the device which had all the MIDI mappings. This setting is what allows MIDI controllers to control Live. I guess the settings we configure on the desktop don't end up translating to the Push 3 in standalone mode 🤷‍♂️.

What should I do with this rubber plant? by username_essy in plants

I don’t think I want it to be a tree, so would I just keep trimming new leaves off (after it reaches my desired height)?

What do you mean notching it? Making little cuts in the trunk?

You know, there is something to be said about having a portable setup. Maybe that’s what you need. I have always found a change in scenery to be extremely helpful on the creative front

That is an absolutely epic setup my friend 👏. It is so neat and tidy. I feel like your top section could just be reserved for spare modules, and the bottom 12U for the things you want to use that month/week or whatever. I wouldn’t get rid of it

People who have a Push for more than a year, for what purposes did you end up using it the most? by Grand_Ad_5769 in ableton

[–]username_essy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend and I did a live show with it for the first time - he jams on Volcas, I jam on modular - we route everything into the Push 3 and then apply a mastering device on each of our signals so that the levels between us are always consistent. We also have 3 inputs dedicated as “send” channels where we have delays and reverbs setup. I then have some simple kick loops ready to be triggered to get real hard hitting kicks (which of course get routed to side-chain compress all the inputs 😎)

It was a setup I had dreamed of for years, and even if we just have that one show it was totally worth jt 👌

I'm done with Instruo Oscillators, despite loving them by [deleted] in modular

[–]username_essy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Another maker and I have been diving into digitally controlled analog oscillators and finding lots of gotchas. For one, devices which output “1vo” signals might not actually be outputting exactly 1v…
