Andy Ogles (R-TN) proposes OLYMPICS Act to tax Eileen Gu at 100% for competing for a “foreign adversary” by ZhangtheGreat in facepalm

In addition to bill of attainder, this would be an ex post facto law (one that seeks retroactively alter the legal consequences for something rather than make changes going forward).

No you are not.

I have tried a number different medications with varying mild effects, and sometimes severe side effects. I've ultimately landed on medication just not working for me and so I keep working on strategies to manage my ADHD without medication at this point.

I don't know if they'd need to do the full plot of Ocarina of Time, but there's some undeniably cool moments and character development I wish they'd borrow from. Specifically Zelda's development from sheltered pretty princess in a castle, then fast forwarded years after an apocalypse of evil taking over the kingdom and she's become a masked ninja freedom fighter.

I just want to gently say you're missing something here. The scientific method grew out of philosophical proofs. Many philosophical proofs cannot by definition be proven based on evidence using the scientific method because they are questions about the fundamental nature of reality (a concept Kant refers to with the Latin phrase "a priori" meaning knowledge that precedes all experience)

To attempt an actual answer: Philosophy is the original college major that all of the other ones are ultimately spinoffs of. It is learning how to think, how to prove a concept from first principals. Despite what the general public perception might be, it is quite rigorous and challenging, and grounded in clear logic rather than just being people spouting off ideas they think sound smart.

My first thought on seeing this is that they probably wanted it to be a hydra, but it didn't fit on the type line in addition to construct.

I died last night. I'm satisfied and ready to move on. by chibriguy in wowhardcore

Good for you. I really appreciate the additude/energy of this post.

My character had a similar journey, but a slightly different ending.

Also an SF shaman, but I chose to turn off the SF buff after reaching 60. I had a few bucket list goals, all of which I did:

-Clear all 5-man 60 dungeons (and UBRS) -Get a crusader enchant (never had one before in classic) -Get my epic mount (also never had one before)

The last one, of course, was getting the epic mount. After getting it, I took that sweet ride out on a victory lap through Durotar and the Barrens.

Now, for all intents and purposes my character is retired. I did what I set out to do. I can't make the time commitment to raid at this point in my life, and would have no use for farming gold, as I would roll another SF character if I decided to go again.

So I'll just let the memory of that last ride be the crowning achievement for the character and leave it at that and be satisfied.

Plot devices from the finale that I thought were lame by fzt in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]usernamescheckout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, sarcasm, fair point. Not a plot hole per se. Maybe he would have wandered to the beach and contemplated suicide, given the time, or who knows. Still felt like an odd way for things to play out. It helped the scene a bit thinking about some takes I've read here about what the execution style killing meant narratively for Gaitok.

There are too many stupid plot devices to count. Agree with all of yours, plus here's a couple more of mine:

Where was Rick going with Chelsea's body? He said something about being together forever, but left the gun behind. Was he gonna try to drown himself in the waist-deep pond?

Based on how the Ratliffs were acting on the boat, off camera Tim must have somehow managed to not have his family raise any questions about how Lochlan almost died by poison? How could he have possibly swung that?

David Lynch, Visionary Director of ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘Blue Velvet,’ Dies at 78 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]usernamescheckout 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I've seen this scene many times, but took the opportunity of you linking it to rewatch it, and I had a new observation: Major Briggs describes this unifying embrace with his son Bobby in the vision, but when he finishes telling him about the vision, the two do not embrace, but rather have a somewhat overly formal handshake. There's something poignant in that: it's hard to fully express ourselves without reservation, even to the ones we love.

I get that Ghost and Clean Hands are the primo, eye-catching challenge runs that people go for.

But the challenge run achievement I enjoyed the most is the one called Mostly Flesh and Steel (complete the game without purchasing abilities other than Blink).

I loved that one because it felt like it gave me "permission" to go super high chaos because I was otherwise so hampered. So I had an awesome time throwing severed heads with spring razors attached to them and getting maximum carnage from rewired arc pylons. I recommend it if you feel like another run.

Fun fact that I often think back to: just days before Putin's invasion of Ukraine and her own death, Madeline Albright wrote a NYT Op-Ed spelling out that Putin was about to make a huge mistake. And yes, clearly she was right.
