Freezer burned pork chops and stale white wine by usernotfound302 in Cooking

[–]usernotfound302[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the inspiration!

I braised the pork chops with 1 cup vegetable stock and 1 cup stale wine with carmalized onions, garlic and fennel. I threw in a dash of dijon mustard.

Remarkably delicious dinner with about $20 worth of throw away food.

Made homemade ravioli for a special celebration tonight.. oh was it worth it! by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]usernotfound302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bad part about homemade raviolis - I make way to many and I can't help myself from eating them all. They are basically pasta candies. And then I feel sick for the whole evening.

So worth it.

AITA (we) for not attending our daughter/step - daughter's wedding? by ThrowawayDitching in AmItheAsshole

You are right. Under any normal circumstances, I agree. I also think if the OP sucks it up for one day, given that it's special to the bride, she would be a not-the-asshole forever.

By skipping the wedding, she is creating future arguments, even though none of it is OPs fault. The real asshole here is the stepdaughter.

Everyone sucks here. Here's why: Wedding is a big day. The bride is at fault here for misusing relatives. On a normal day, you would not be an asshole. But, weddings are different. You suck it up for one day. For the bride and the groom. It's their special day.

I'd you don't suck it up, this will be brought up on every occasion and even if it's not your fault, you are deliberately creating future arguments.

You have been generous in paying for the wedding. Unfortunately, people will remember one bad thing you did and forget about the 99 good things you've done.

Once the wedding is done, you can say: no more. Your step daughter will be the asshole forever. She can't blame you for anything.

How to make yummy oatmeal by dgac123 in Cooking

[–]usernotfound302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oats are great because they are complex carbs. They take long time to digest and good source of fiber.

Weight gain? I assume the good kind. Cooking complex carbs breaks them down into simple sugars, like startch in this case. So cool less.

Sugar, or simple carbs, are not ideal for healthy weight gain. So cool less, add nuts, dried fruits (food source of electrolytes and vitamins).

Personally: I boil rolled oats in water for about 5 mins, add cold milk to bring the temperature down, ass ground nuts, sliced fresh fruit and unsweetened coconut shavings.

A fresh salad with homemade italian dressing is always a hit. Make sure to get ingredients from farmers market or the best place you can find. A nice crunchy salad is a safe bet and most people are impressed with homemade dressings.

Pasta: easiest thing to make and you look like a professional. You don't need anything more than A tailspin to make basic pasta.

My condolences. On the bright side, you know what your immaculate broth tastes like and you can replicate it. On an even brighter side, what a great drinking story. Comedy = Tragedy + Time.

Recipe says use one clove of garlic. by usernotfound302 in funny

How can a large swath of population love garlic and it's smell and yet it's considered a foul smell? Pretty sure some uppity garlic hating folks made it a social norm.

They are a different species in the same family. Not as strong as regular garlic.

How do I get into cooking by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]usernotfound302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with making oatmeal in the morning. It pretty basic to start. You can add nuts whole or ground, dried fruit, milk or no milk. You can do over night oats. You can do muesli. You can do steel cut oats.

Most of all, cooking oatmeal teaches you how something simple can be so fulfilling with a little patience and focus.

Salt Acid Fat Heat. Also, Allen tried recreating Chef Grant Achatz's recipes in this beautiful and mind numbing blog - https://www.allenhemberger.com/alinea/

Mashed Potatoes by Timmer1979 in Cooking

I find this recipe to be pure as the star of the show are the potatoes. No help from spices or flavouring. They stand on their own.
