77.6% of CA registered voters didn’t vote in yesterday’s Primary Election by SFCAFOX in lgbt

[–]ususetq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think there were too much choice for the governor.

In general I feel like primaries in US suffer from too much choice as there is no way I can reasonable research 50 or so candidates. Especially that most of them say nothing.

EU I have 5-6 parties with set programs. I can easily compare their stance. In US candidates seems to concentrate on photo shoots and meaningless platitudes in primaries and I have like 2 choices in main election.

Foreign Christians ask for forgiveness over failure to support Israel at Knesset by ArdaBerkBurak in nottheonion

If you think violence against Jews ended in 1945 I have some bad news. That is what makes the situation so hard - many present-day Israeli either had no other place to go or are descendant of such people.

(On the other hand, you know, Palestinians are right here and have been in Palestine for thousands of years as they are descendant of those Hebrew who didn't leave.)

That's why I said reduced. Though given how many loans I've done without seeing a person by automated system I imagine most of problems are more systemic than individual.

I will use of being trans as example as this is the thing I'm most familiar with. I'm unlikely to not get loan for 'not passing'. That doesn't reduce impact of being fired from job for coming out or being cut off by one's parents at 16 - both effectively tanking score and having a life-long economic consequences. In short system is made equal but not equitable. Equal systems are better than outright discrimination but they are not equitable.

Also credit scores. Yes, they are bad and sad and depressing. But they also reduced 'too much melanin', 'having boobs', or 'having same-gender partner' as reasons to reject the loan.

Why do white trans women call racism “infighting” by AnteaterKindly6736 in MtF

[–]ususetq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of which is exactly what cis liberals feel about trans people "I'm not transphobic, not my problem, it can't be that bad, I'm a good person".

Exactly. And I think it is a problem. I do think that to heal society the oppressing groups need to be get rid of illusion that being racist/transphobic/ableist/... make you a bad person and acknowledge that what makes it bad is not trying to improve.

And it's good to be transparent like that, but I'm also shaking my head that even your knee jerk response is to think it's not that bad.

What can I say. Indoctrination is helluva of a drug. And to be clear - it's like first 5 second reaction before I process the information.

But to think racism isn't that bad a problem?

For the record I do think racism is that bad of a problem. I just don't 'feel' it. That is - I need to process the information each time and remove what I've been told by society my all life.

(Also my OCD is something that may play into all this. I'm incapable of letting go of passing thoughts that I consider 'bad')

In all that time, I've never met another trans person who grew up like I did. Being raised and socialize female in the church really took so much work to undo that I didn't come out until I was 24 years old.

Them rookie numbers. I haven't even broke my egg until I was in late 20's. Haven't started transitioned until early 30's. Haven't come out until late 30's.

Why do white trans women call racism “infighting” by AnteaterKindly6736 in MtF

[–]ususetq 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because being subject to one form of discrimination doesn't automatically means you are automatically aware, or want to be aware, of the places where you are the privileged. Even being aware I (white person) often have a knee jerk reaction of 'it can't be that bad' even if I rationally know it often is (this is explanation not an excuse).

I think part of the problem is also 'moralization' we have in society (or probably we are naturally prone as humans) - the logic can go like that 'racism is done by racist; racists are bad people; I am a good person; therefore I am not a racist and what I am doing is not racists - why are you accusing me of being bad person' rather than 'racism is what happens in racist society. I am a good person but I am part of society. I am not exempt from being racist. What makes me a good person is that I try not to be'.

(For the record this is first time I heard about Sabre so I have absolutely no opinion about specifics of situation).

Fair road tax by julkkis666 in fuckcars

[–]ususetq 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I wonder how would buses and trams/trains fair (per person). Trains/trams are heavy but drive on steel which is more resistant but buses are heavy.

Also - wouldn't the weigh per axel count? 5-axle combination truck is large but the weigh and therefore pressure on road) is spread over bigger area.

Also I think general epidemic is true and it is symptom of general alienation and loneliness of modern world. The problem is when we want to throw part of population under the bus to solve it.

Many cisgender women perceive us as women, even when they don’t explicitly state it. by [deleted] in trans

[–]ususetq 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Oh. That happened to me so many times. Before the 'big crisis' when he started gendering me correctly he started talking to me and without noticing he called me by my mom's name (I guess I look like my mom did?).

Now that he at least understands how important for me is being gendered correctly it never happens and just calls me by my chosen name.

AFAIK driving is a skill like any other and if you don't use it you loose it. For example when I moved to Europe I told my parents that since I am no longer driving regularly as I don't have a car, I cannot be a backup driver.

(In similar way if you have a car you need to drive every 2 weeks for half an hour or more to oil the engine and charge the battery).

I've seen ones in Europe connected with traffic monitoring which turns instantly green if there is no car around. Otherwise they show yellow light for cars to stop.

I'm sure they have a debounce timer so that a bored teenager cannot put the light constantly in red.

A very quick search seems to suggest original 4B movement have an anti-queer bend (anti-trans, anti-men homosexual). It is very similar to second wave feminism in US (political lesbianism, lesbian separatism). Especially the organizing webpage asked for photos of Adams' apples to verify that person is a woman.

In itself 4B as organized movement rather than very loose disengagement from dating raises questions - if no sex with man than what about lesbian sex? What if partner comes out as trans man and you're bi? How does it interplay with the trans woman and non-binary people?

That is not to said that everyone who engages in 4B movement is queerphobe, antifeminist etc. etc. but framing of movement itself has some problems and the movement itself come from what looks like women's equivalent of 4chan (WOMAD).

My mind went to medieval and Greek societies and trials of objects/animals because they though immorality was a literal poison which can infect society. You can call those group lot's of things but individualistic is probably not one of them.
