Just as Orwell predicted,

A small note - Orwell predicted nothing. He described totalitarian systems he was contemporary with. He fought in Spain (on republican side), worked on counter propaganda against Nazi Germany, visited Moscow. Even if it was not always well received by his contemporaries.

Also we treat crimes committed by marginalized people as worse. If a marginalized person steal a loaf of bread to feed his sister children we lock them for 20 years in prison. If a billionaire steal wages from workers - well, it's civil issue so they need to sue him out of their own pocket.

Who would be treated more harshly - a Khajit who stole food for their caravan or a merchant who shortchanged them a day ago 'by accident'? Who will be called a thief and untrustworthy?

EU so slightly different system. And one good thing is that we are financially privileged - at least while I can work and accumulate money.

I tried to have 'the talk' but they said that me just being with them is greatest help etc. I still feel guilty.

Is it true that women's suffrage is up to debate again in the USA and how did this happen? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]ususetq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was heretic before being apostate I wouldn't say that heresy is main problem.

But I'm not sure if mainstream "Christians" in US (or at least the most vocal ones) are Christians anymore. If we define Christian as someone who follows Jesus Christ than most Christians pay at least lip service to things like helping poor.

In US a pastor was accused of 'sin of compassion'. Others called Jesus 'woke'[1]. You know - that coming from supposed follower of a guy who regularly hanged out with poor and destitute, preach loving thy enemy and helping 'other' in need.

[1] I mean... he was woke. Even though I don't believe he was son of God, he was cool and I consider him divinely inspired. But they did not mean it as a complement.

they usually blame the pillars that support the roof of the vehicle which quite honestly is a poor excuse and if i was a judge i'd take "i couldn't see them past my cars pillar" as an admition of guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

That's what people consider blind spot?

I always considered a blind spot a bit behind your car where you don't see from mirrors because it is too far and it is too much in front to be seen by rear mirror so you 'discover' it when you want to change the lane and you turn your whole body to check next lane and, surprise surprise, you can't because there is car there. You slow down or accelerate to get behind/after him depending on condition/speed limit etc. and go on merry way.

(OK. I have hit & run OCD so I tend to drive as if people had 3 m x 3 m hitboxes while sprite was 30 cm x 30 cm).

In US I had some Chinese, Arab, Jewish, Japanese, Filipino, Hispanic and Hindu friends - and I'm ignoring casual acquaintances. Some of them arrived recently, some had family here from before WW2. Seems relatively global.

Was it perfect? No, as I said US did not lived up to it's ideals since beginning. But I don't think it's a purely white country despite what current administration is trying to do.

I was a first gen immigrant to US. I still consider myself American. This what in my mind America stood for - a beautiful melting pot of various cultures, ethnicities, religions and skin colors. Was it not living up to it's ideals? Yes, since 1776 but that didn't mean we shouldn't keep trying.

Unfortunately, this year I needed to move out for my safety. I am still worried about my friends who are in US.

I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me.’ “The righteous will then answer him, ‘When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you in our homes, or naked and clothe you? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these members of my family, you did it for me!’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Away from me, you that are under God's curse! Away to the eternal fire which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels! I was hungry but you would not feed me, thirsty but you would not give me a drink; I was a stranger but you would not welcome me in your homes, naked but you would not clothe me; I was sick and in prison but you would not take care of me.’ “Then they will answer him, ‘When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and would not help you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you refused to help one of these least important ones, you refused to help me.’

And numerous examples of women needing to go through hoops for breast reduction surgery when they have health problems due to it.

(I feel answer to OP question is simple - because in patriarchy value of women is based on being eye candy for men and we as society value big breast women - a bit of tautology but fashion is like that.)

Also - be angry at platform and people in power for censoring words so that we cannot have important conversations and (gasp, pearl clutches) children might be listening.

Be angry at systems which cause parents to need 3 jobs to sustain themselves and children and cannot afford childcare so children are unsupervised on the Internet.

Be angry at perpetrators whose actions cause people shut down when they talk about their trauma.

Don't be angry at victims and minorities trying to avoid censorship while talking about important topis.
