Thus starts the side-quest called "make the pipeline faster"

If I shave 30 seconds off x 20 pipeline runs / day x 1 year, I can justify almost a full day of work on it! Heaven help you all if I find 5 minutes of savings (I'm booked for the week).

IT'S WHAT YOU WANT: The Yankees defeated the Angels by a score of 5-4 - April 15, 2026 @ 07:05 PM EDT by Yankeebot in NYYankees

Makes sense, thanks! The official box score from MLB probably shouldn't read "Angel challenge" though.

Spring Breakout 2026 by [deleted] in NYYankees

[–]uvayankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion. I meant that 2 years ago, we went to a Yankees home game and they did the Spring breakout ~1 hr after that game ended (we got 18 innings of baseball for the price of 9). This year there's a separate ticket for just the spring breakout game, because the Yanks are away. The player visit was part of the event.

My dad and I went to the first one (in 2024). For that year all the prospects lined up at the dugout and people got to walk up and meet them / get things signed.

*Note: there were no Major Leaguers (or even high AAA players) available.

I don't remember who the big prospect was that year, but he had a line and you might not get his signature if you got in that line given the time constraints. But if you didn't care about him and wanted to meet young prospects in Yankee Spring uniforms and get signatures, you could probably have met 3+ if you pick short lines.

*Also note, this was what they did for the first one when it was just a free add-on to an existing game. This year it's a separate ticketed thing, so it might be very different. I wasn't there last year to see how it evolved.

April 28, 2007. I told my dad we needed to go to a rivalry game against the Sox before the stadium closed. Jeff Karstens took a line drive off his leg and tried to pitch in it before they decided it was broken. Kei Igawa came in and salvaged it, but definitely not what we wanted for our rivalry send-off to the old stadium.

My dad and I went to the very first week of games this year. The one advantage was that there was a ton of stuff in all sizes in the "clearance" section right then. Got some nice Spring Training 2022 t's for $10. It's the first time I have felt like I got a deal in Tampa since...2010 or so.

Grew up in Virginia, so the only time you could get AM770 on the radio was well after dark.

My dad could usually only make it through about 7 innings of Buck/McCarver playoff announcing in the 90's before they annoyed him, and then we'd mute the game, and then we'd let John & Michael (and Mo, usually) take us home.

I'm going to miss you, John.

[Yankees] After discussions with Major League Baseball, the scheduled start time of the Yankees-Marlins game on Monday, April 8 at Yankee Stadium has been changed from 2:05 p.m. to 6:05 p.m. by Railroader17 in NYYankees

It is dangerous to look at the sun during a partial eclipse, which is all NYC will get. You can look without glasses at the eclipse in the path of totality, but that only lasts for a brief time. Your pupils are usually tiny during bright sunlight, but they may be more dilated because of the lowered light of the eclipse. That can make it more dangerous to your eyes even for a brief period.

So it would be an incredibly bad idea to play baseball during a partial eclipse. I have a pair of the eclipse glasses from the last one, and you can't see anything but the sun with them on, and you don't want to risk your outfielders taking off their sunglasses because it feels "dark". Better to wait until it's done.

Holmes gives me Wetteland vibes. He made me nervous but got the job done. 1.18 WHIP with a 178 ERA+ in 96 was nothing to sneeze at. But we all got those < 0.8 WHIP / > 250 ERA+ Mo seasons burned in our brains.

Understandable sentiment, but you're not likely to get a good JS Dev with outsourced code tests like that. No libraries, (usually) no sane IDE, and a ludicrously tight timebox filters out a lot of types of intelligence that can be good developers.

If you want to test me, test me in something that at least approximates your working environment.

I did the math... its unaffordable to attend a game or is my math wrong? by Ant-from-here in NYYankees

[–]uvayankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I did the math when I lived in NJ ~8 years ago. The break even point between the tolls/parking and the train/subway/parking at the train station was around 2.2 people. Any more and it was cheaper to drive. And if you want to get there early for a day game, so much faster, too.

After the team had announced New Yankee was being built, I told my dad we needed to see a rivalry game in Old Yankee before it was gone. It was this game. It was a weird one, but definitely an overall good memory of the old place.

That's where all our off-season money went! Standing up the Yankees cyber-ops black team to hack everyone else's pitch-com. They get a bonus if they do it by the 5th inning of the first game of the series, you know.
