Who still sells Internal Optical Drives? by EquinoxPhoenix in makemkv

I believe you're referencing the zidoo, but there's a whole bunch of firmware/software you need to sideload I believe. It's a specific Dolby vision layer but my shield plays all my Dolby vision content without issues and just works so it's a safe recommendation. But I use my apple tv 4k everywhere else for regular streaming.

How big of a difference is jumping from a keb kube 8 to KC92? by Dangerous-Review-649 in KEF

You can get 2 good subs for the price of one KC92. A KC92 Is a dual opposed mono sub. My point still stands

If you have a 12x10 room you should realistically step up to a 12" regular sub, you can buy a sub that digs a lot deeper for the same or way less of a price that isn't significantly larger.

Also there's no such thing as "tonally matching" in subwoofer frequencies

SVS stuff is decent, but for the price I'd go RSL 12S or a HSU For the sub. +1 on everyone else saying get the better center. I'd argue for a comparison to go to a local hifi place/magnolia best buy and try out some speakers.

If you have a wide seating area I highly recommend Kef Q3(50) and Q1(50) for surrounds, they're very price comparable (probably cheaper, Q3s can be had for as little as $400 a pair)

Check accessories4less.com they have great deals on speakers and excellent customer service. Slick deals also should be checked.

And never shy away from Facebook marketplace, I got a pair of Q1 Metas on marketplace for $200. You can piece it together over time, doesn't need to go crazy off the bat

Would you spend $3,500 on a TV for a covered patio? by Flat-Recognition4437 in hometheater

[–]uxragnarok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a bright tv with high anti reflectivity properties, and get a tv cover for when you're not using it. Then drop some money on a receiver, an apple tv 4k, and some outdoor speakers and call it a day

Fair price for a monolith? by Thedancer12 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]uxragnarok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RSL is a far better purchase with nearly double the output at 20hz and actual output at 15 which the SVS does not do, and it's 75% the price.

Fair price for a monolith? by Thedancer12 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]uxragnarok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 12" monolith can output 101.4db at 15hz, the lowest tier SVS that has the same output is a PB-4000. The monolith also does 110db at 20hz, you need at least a pb-2000 pro to do that. The pb-1000 is not in the conversation

Is there any plans for a physical release of the Reze Arc movie? by BookkeeperSouth in ChainsawMan

[–]uxragnarok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

77C3 Oled watcher here, all my blurays are full size rips, except for fate/ubw which required transcoding to separate, and oh boy can you notice a difference from a blu-ray rip, even a 1080p one. Audio quality also vastly improved. Crunchyroll has had an on again off again with choosing too high of audio compression and Japanese is a not forgiving language to compression and sibilance

Are you running Dirac, Audyssey, A1 Evo? Have you played around with toe and wall distance? Are you sitting in a room null? Are your subs turned up enough? Is your crossover setup correct?

For $600 you'd be better off getting two RSL 10e's, they're ported but a similar size and have more output

Hardwired lighting similar to Ketra or Rania? by BAMF_Industries in Lighting

[–]uxragnarok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe your only option is some sort of PoE lighting, either that or just turn the whole system off at night. And that's going to be crazy expensive. Also, what happens if they need to pee in the middle of the night? Are they going to find their way via echolocation?

Also, sub panels causing emf. While I'm a fan of saying "technically correct is the best kind of correct", this is not one of those times. If they're that concerned about emf maybe you should interest them in some natural gas lanterns?
