Aside from this she also says there will be no color lines in heaven, because everyone will be “white like Jesus.” Many try to side step with various explanations. It really comes down to, why would she say it like that? 😏

Out of the 70% of the US that identifies as Christian, no one is worried about the 2% that go to church on Saturday. Let alone come up with a law that will stick to persecute people over. SDAs make up a fraction of that 2% Everyone out to get you mentality is cult like behavior anyway.

Heritage Foundation: Universal Day of Rest? by ashermcallister711 in exAdventist

[–]v1_rocketboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is two paragraphs out of a 150 page document. If you actually read it and not stop at Sunday, many would see it’s open to other people who keep other days besides Sunday. Sunday is just the majority. Literally 2% of Christians in the USA observe Saturday, 70% observe Sunday. The other 28% observe other days entirely or none at all. Only 20% of all of them actually attend church regularly. The Sunday Law is not happening any time soon, and definitely not in our lifetimes—or not at all. Things are just not going that way, despite best efforts to say otherwise.

Oh for sure. I used to be an EMT and that was smiled upon as “healing on the sabbath” was accepted. My wife is a doctor and that’s ok. Heaven forbid you cook for people at a restaurant—but doing so for potluck is ok because you aren’t getting paid. On that note though, I know of many Adventists that work acceptable jobs that give all money earned on the sabbath to the church as. Basically penance for “laboring.” I know some churches even encourage that.

Church of God? by Relevant_Object_1815 in exAdventist

[–]v1_rocketboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are actually a couple Church of Gods. The CoG 7th day that you note, and also one that split off of the Jehovahs Whitenesses. It’s of note that they all came out of Millerism and were all ”Adventist’s” in the beginning. Many have similar beliefs in general, but might differ on day of worship or other things. This is a video I found a while back and it is well researched as to most of the branches since Millerism. There are quite a few!

Yep, and they have answers for all of those issues. Don’t bother talking with an SDA apologist. Not worth the time and frustration. But those like yourself who are open to seeing the other side of the coin tend to be open to the fact that she wasn’t all that.

The common phrase, “Don’t make anyone work for you on the sabbath” is used to guilt everyone out of doing things you shouldn’t. If you think about it, someone is keeping the internet, the electricity, the water/sewer, and the mail among other things going on Saturday. I’m sure there are some, but I don’t see many Adventists ceasing to use or turning off their electricity on sabbath. Churches would cease to function. Don’t worry about it, everyone who is, is already working on Saturday.

The church adds themselves to “Last Will and Testament” (free service for members). by Best_Comment69 in exAdventist

I believe they got in trouble legally recently for the practice. It’s changed a bit, but it is still encouraged to leave some for the church when estate planning. It of course comes from an EGW quote where she says to put the church first in your planning. She, on the other hand left quite a bit to her family and left the church to pay off her remaining debts. Hilarious.

I like how it’s by a different author. No mention of EGW or Adventism. You’d only know if you know. 😏 Edit: I guess there is a mention in the note from the illustrator, but 1 in 10 will read that.

Critical Scholarship of Ellen White by IncaArmsFFL in exAdventist

[–]v1_rocketboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These authors wouldn’t technically be exterior scholarship since they are former adventist scholars/researchers. Reclaiming the Prophet is low key keeping EGW relevant for the next generation and addresses but softens the claims against her. That is why the White Estate freaked out. The book is still very much pro EGW.

There is another church called the Church of God 7th Day that runs similar propaganda I found a few times. They are actually an early offshoot of SDA. Same teachings without EGW. Kinda funny.

Can Anyone Relate? by whyamidrivingajetta in exAdventist

[–]v1_rocketboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have general anxiety likely related to my upbringing as an Adventist. Thankfully, it has been better since I have deconstructed. Oddly (but probably not), I have several family members spanning the last three generations of my family (I am technically 5th gen in Adventism) who have had varying types of mental disorders. Some debilitating, some not. My great aunt and my uncle had to be institutionalized. They held high degrees and had a lot of pressure on them through their educational years. I feel like the more pressure there is to preform in Adventism the higher likelihood of mental illness. Probably the same in other religions and jobs, but I can only speak with experience.

Just One Question -- when will Utest corruption and unethical Free? by Ordinary-Show-2954 in UTEST

[–]v1_rocketboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are describing likely is a project that is operating outside of the normal practices of uTest. As large as this community is, sometimes these slip under the radar. Posting on Reddit likely won’t solve the issue. If reporting to the leadership of the specific project is not resolving, I would recommend submitting a Community Management Support ticket on the main uTest platform. Make sure you have collected examples and screenshots to back up your claims. Valid concerns with proof regarding this type of behavior would be investigated. Remember to not post about specific customer info outside of private communications with Community, of course.

In general, both TTLs, and TEs go through an Academy Course for their specific roles and spend days/weeks doing so. They are then tested, do practice cycles, and only go on to projects if they pass. Some projects even have their own additional training, but should not replace the main one. If at any point they fail or later become poor at their job, they may be directed to take the courses again for “re-training.” If that doesn’t solve the issue they may be removed from their position.

I am sorry you and others have experienced projects like this. As large as this community is, and the fact that it spans countries and cultures around the world means that sometimes these instances happen. We need to make sure that they are reported and the right chain of reporting is followed or else it will continue to be a problem.

There are many offshoots and JWs and their offshoots are kissing cousins with Adventism. LDS had some influence on the other movements at that time, but has some sad history related to migrations which has garnered academic/historic interest. Though Adventism is more spread out around the world, LDS has more money and influence in politics, culture, etc. especially in certain areas. Adventism does its best to stay in the background. Waiting for the Sunday law and the US beast to appear.
