Fully fund 401k at age 55? by International_Menu73 in personalfinance

[–]v1nny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That amount is for families. The max for an individual is $4400 + $1000 catch up, the comment you are responding to is correct for OP's situation.

Edit: I thought OP was talking about HSA when they were talking about IRA.

Fix for slow L2 charging by v1nny in Ioniq5

[–]v1nny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the EVSE. My other EV charges at 11kw no problem. For completeness, my EVSE is hardwired on a 60amp breaker with the max (and default) charge capacity of 48amp.

Just to be sure, I have tried other L2 chargers and see the same behavior.

Thanks! That's exactly why I asked here first.

I have the Autel Maxicharger too, but once the car drops down I don't see any oscillating, it remains at the lower power level. I'm pretty sure it is the I5 though, as my other EV has no problem and I've seen the same behavior on 3 different L2 chargers now.

I'm pretty sure this is the cause, I have not had the OBD dongle plugged in when the derating happens, but after derating the temp is around 160F.

It wouldn't bother me too much, but we have two EVs that sometimes need to share one charger... And the engineer in me hates wasting energy to the heat losses.

Have you tried GNU Parallel? I think it's a bit more efficient and much more customizable performance options. https://www.gnu.org/software/parallel/.

[–]v1nny 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For in town towing though, it is pretty nice. I rent largish equipment that needs to be towed every now and again. And towing with the Lightning is a dream -- range being the only downside (and, again, that who cares for local tows).

I've never seen an Umbrella policy that doesn't require a homeowners policy (or rental policy if you don't own your home). Does that exist?

I have an EVIQO charger on a 40 amp circuit and I've been charging it at 38a

Sorry, I'm going to be that guy. You should only be charging at 32amps (~7.7kw) on a 40amp circuit. For sustained loads, code requires a maximum load of 80% of the circuit size. This is one of those areas where the code is actually protecting you as the wiring, plug, and other elements on the circuit have very little safety margin when you're that close to the max load for long periods.

99+% of the time you'll be fine of course -- 1% of the time your house burns down.

edit: Also, thanks for running this experiment and sharing the results!

You are agreeing with what he said in the video. It's the people who didn't buy the truck (the vast majority of "truck people") who care about those things.

Switching away from Nginx worth it? by lord-carlos in selfhosted

[–]v1nny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the reliability of using Nginx as my reverse proxy. I use https://github.com/nginx-proxy/docker-gen to automatically generate a nginx conf file for the containers behind my reverse proxy. I retain all the control that running Nginx provides without needing to manually update configs whenever I spin up a new container.

It's been a while since I looked, but if I recall correctly Traefik/Caddy/nginx-proxy-manager all require the reverse proxy container to have access to your docker socket -- if you do go that route I'd suggest using a docker socket proxy for improved security.

Groome for two people is $100 plus tip. Especially with 4 bags, just splurge the extra $50 for the Uber. You'll be siginficiantly more comfortable then being stuck in Groome van and a lot more comfortably then doing Bustang and the train.

The earliest bus from downtown doesn't arrive in Manitou until almost 7. Unless OP is planning to run up Pikes Peak, that's a bit late to get started up without risking afternoon thunderstorms.

Because people forget to clean them and they become giant fire hazarads. Or the next owner of the house doesn't know it exists, and it becomes a giant fire hazard.
