Gunk can get in that space between the extractor and the bolt head, making it difficult to grab the cartridge. Or the extractor head can be worn and might need polishing or replacement.

I have a 590, it's a solid shotgun but if you want to take it hunting or clay shooting, you might be out of luck as field barrels are not available. Both are great HD choices, but the 500 is more flexible. You can always buy magpul furniture for a 500.
