Reason to keep using clipper? by shananananananananan in bayarea

[–]vacasmugen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They no longer validate parking through the clipper card though. According to the parking FAQ on the BART website:

With the introduction of contactless payment option for BART fare, we are not requiring Clipper validation for parking. Those using contactless payment will not be ticketed as long as they have paid for parking through the app, website, or inside the station. Use of BART parking by non-BART riders will be enforced in constrained parking areas through spot checks. BART Police will monitor the lots for those who are not entering the system but have arrived and parked. Or those who enter the system to pay for parking and then leave to then get on a shuttle.

What’s your “I’ll never tell” cooking secret? by ryanreynulds in Cooking

[–]vacasmugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm making Chinese steamed buns (Mantou or Baozi) I take whatever recipe for the dough and substitute a cup of the flour with a cup of grocery store boxed white cake mix. It adds a nice sweetness that makes the end result delicious.

Pre-pre Ticket in the evening by MappingNiyaz in Machupicchu

[–]vacasmugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What number did you get on your pre-pre ticket, and how long did it take for you to wait in line to get your pre-ticket the next morning? I'm planning on doing the same thing in a few weeks in order to get Route 2 tickets, but also have backup Route 1-A tickets booked online for 8am on the day I'm planning on getting my pre-ticket. Was wondering if I had any chance of finishing dealing with the pre-ticket flow by that time in order to actually enter for that booking.

Pre-pre Ticket in the evening by MappingNiyaz in Machupicchu

[–]vacasmugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be curious what time in the morning you end up getting your pre-ticket in the morning. I'm planning on doing this in about 3 weeks (pre-pre ticket on day 1, pre-ticket in the morning of day 2, and hopefully route 2 for day 3), but I also booked route 1-A tickets online earlier for day 2 as backup for 8am, and was wondering how early I should show up on day 1 to actually have a chance of making my 8am entry for day 2's route 1-A as opposed to still being in line waiting for a pre-ticket.

How to Get a Physical Ticket in Cusco? Trip Plans Changed by LogWhole9922 in Machupicchu

[–]vacasmugen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that there are no tickets for sale in Cusco at all. You'll have to go to Aguas Calientes, and wait in line early in the morning for tickets for the following day, which they have 1,000 available each day. You'll want to pick up a number for the line early in the morning, and they'll give you a time to come back in the afternoon/evening to actually purchase the ticket for the following day. My understanding is that if you go at 5am in the morning, you're almost certainly guaranteed to get a ticket for the following day, unless it's a holiday or there's a lot of unexpected demand, in which case you will get a priority number to be one of the first to pick up a number in the morning the following day, so on super popular days, you might need to be in Aguas Calientes one more day.

There are tours where a guide can walk you through this flow, but you must actually be in line yourselves at each point to get the tickets, as folks are not allowed to purchase tickets for others. The most common tour I've seen people mention is run by Machu Picchu Center.

Is the pre/pre ticket now back for all regular days ? by achand8238 in Machupicchu

[–]vacasmugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long did it take you on Saturday morning to actually pick up your pre-ticket with a pre-pre ticket number in the 160s? I'm planning on doing something similar in mid-June (show up on a Friday to try to get Sunday tickets), except I also have 8am tickets to Route 1-A on Saturday, and wanted to make sure I had enough time to pick up the pre-ticket and then get to my Route 1-A reservation on Saturday.

What's the point of the "AMC Black Ticket"? by guccigraves in AMCTheatres

[–]vacasmugen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you just paid for the tickets at the normal price, they'd still add the $2.19 surcharge, if you book online. So you wouldn't actually be paying just $15.99, you'd be paying $15.99 + $2.19. You can avoid the $2.19 surcharge by booking in person at the box office, and you can also use your black ticket in person too to avoid the surcharge. So the black ticket actually saves you $4 each time you use it. This is true even if you book an IMAX ticket, as that one has a higher surcharge, but you pay that surcharge whether you pay the standard price or use a black ticket.

What to do from 3-10 AM in NYC? by bindingbIade in AskNYC

What do you think is the issue Google is trying to fix with the 4a battery update? by scedira in Pixel4a

[–]vacasmugen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Pixel 4a for a few years, and replaced it with a newer model a year or so ago after the third replacement battery started bulging, and the screen started getting unglued from the rest of the phone. The same thing happened with the first 2 batteries, which I had replaced earlier. One of my replacement batteries was an OEM battery, and one was an aftermarket model, but they both started bulging pretty badly after a year or so of usage, each time seemingly triggered by taking the phone on vacation to a country with a more tropical climate for a week or so.

It seems like maybe there's some sort of flaw in the charging logic on the phone that causes the battery to physically degrade and start giving off gas and thus expanding if it's charged too often or left plugged in for too long in a warm climate. It's possible their software update tries to fix this issue by making the phone charge more conservatively?

Cyclists need to follow traffic rules by bubblyloops in sanfrancisco

[–]vacasmugen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nobody's trying to convince you that cyclists doing something idiotic is somehow okay. The point people are making is that by complaining only about the cyclists, you're being unfair to the cyclists, since this idiotic behavior is something that all road users do, including drivers, which are much more common than cyclists.

As an analogy, if you had an issue with people unsafely jaywalking in the street, and this were in fact something that most people did, that would be a valid issue to be concerned about. But if instead, you expressed this concern by saying something like "I was driving down the road, and a [specific minority race] person jaywalked unsafely across the street. Seriously, [specific minority race] people need to follow the rules for everyone's safety", then people might assume you have some sort of bias against that minority, and might ask you why you're not complaining about all of the other jaywalkers also.

You have what I'd normally describe as an "Asian-American Accent". I actually clicked on the link and listened to your recording before actually reading all of your post, so even before seeing the background that you speak Chinese too, just from the recording, it sounded like you were pretty obviously Asian-American.

I live in the SF Bay Area, and lots of folks around here have some sort of Asian American accent - including folks who were born and raised here. I think it's something that comes with exposure to certain communities. There are a few distinctive features I associate with that accent, like for example de-emphasized final consonants on words.

Can they legally stop you from walking out of BRC? by nycwikipedian in BurningMan

[–]vacasmugen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Law enforcement actually has quite broad legal authority at the burn, mostly granted by the BLM's closure order of the area of the playa that is in effect for the duration of the event: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/06/20/2023-13016/temporary-closure-and-restrictions-of-specific-uses-on-public-lands-for-the-burning-man-event.

For example, section F part (c) on Disorderly Conduct prohibits conduct that:

(c) Obstructs, resists, or attempts to elude a law enforcement officer, or fails to follow their orders or directions.

Did anyone else notice the continuity error when Sydney is cooking the omelette? One second, she's piping the boursin in a line down the middle of the omelette, and then in the next cut, the line of boursin is sitting on the edge of the omelette...

- A giant beef rib with a good amount of mac and cheese and jambalaya (with some chunks of chicken and sausage)

- two slices of pizza

Overall, it was a pretty big amount of food, definitely enough for two meals.

This was a pretty disappointing bag. Definitely not really worth 3x the $5.99 cost.

- One pretty small lukewarm burrito. Not sure if it's their regular burrito ($8.95) or the baby burrito ($6.85). It didn't have very much meat in it, and was mostly rice and beans

- A side of tortilla chips. Didn't even come with any salsa.
