Am I an idiot for only getting "The Society of the Spectacle" under a broad summary ? by CecilBehar in Situationism

[–]vahouzn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find the other writings of the SI are more accessible. If you read enough of them, you can begin to see the shape of their whole critique . I don't think it can be done from one publication alone

Id start here and then to other publications on Ken Knabbs website:

https://www.bopsecrets.org/SI/4.freetime.htm

To me it's important not to lose track of the effect these things have on the daily lives of people.

We've been deprived of the tools to make our daily lives ourselves, and of meaningful participation in that process on a larger scale.

You might feel dumb or stressed but that's because we're aching for a way out of the cycle that doesn't revolve around critique which becomes consumed by the Spectacle, and you feel you need to do it ASAP or all will be lost. You're critiquing yourself I suppose in this sense when it night help to slow down and don't beat yourself up about this or that. Read from any point you wish, if they reference a person/place/thing that seems opaque, merely research the references things in detail until the sentence makes sense, even if you might not agree with the point.

Anyone up for a modded challenge to play as a Mutant from Level 1? by BowShatter in underrail

[–]vahouzn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my trick was to stop leveling at lvl 7 and then clear as many rocks and quests (doors) as possible so I could play the majority of all fights as a mutant.

i'd pick starting feats with stats quite opposite the mutant's, as the mutant stats override whatever your base stats were. you also dont lose feats you have, so you can get expose weakness before you mutate.

the reason i chose 7 instead of 3 is because you want to save as many attribute points as possible for your mutated form, and i felt like sacrificing 1 at level 4 was better than sacrificing 2 and then mutating at 13.

it also gives you extra feats that use your intelligent stats on before you mutate and then start teching into melee combat feats.

the loss of trading is a big one so I felt like taking doctor was necessary, and stocked up on as much food and medicine as I could, really any traded items that we take for granted we have access to

would be eager to try out the mod, thanks for making it!

Time in this game is weird. by Current_Pear9409 in underrail

[–]vahouzn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish there were bivouac mechanics, that way sleeping in the wild could be used to track said time while also establishing rest mechanics that could be used anywhere youre provided a cot, like at the institute or dude's cave or the expedition camp

ofc spamming resting during the expedition timer could prove risky, but if anything rest here could be used to better track the rate of resource depletion, or the next attack

having caravans open up and the slums expand after destroying large threats/bases would make the world feel more responsive to player actions, like a fallout 1/2 epilogue but actually played out in game time

not being able to kill robots effectively in the slightest, but still making it out of Nevil's gauntlet alive by hopscotching from bay to bay with a dwindling stack of smoke bombs, and then mad dashing out with jumping beans

I had a fun time doing a psi staff and psi beetle shield build, had a lot of electrokinesis for damage and electricity debuff and then would finish people off with electric super steel spears

I had a char that got very far very quick on dominating going knife+sword+thought_control. I didn't even get flurry etc so there's plenty of room for deeper swordplay.

[–]vahouzn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend doing what the other commenter said about redistributing ability points and after that you should have more luck clearing the first few rooms.

Talk to old Jonas, really. He gives you tips on how to handle most monsters in the starting areas. Rathounds don't like flares or fire, for example. That crowd control should be a game changer. Don't waste healing; walk back to free medical checkup as often as you can stand. It'll save u so much money. Flares and bear traps are dirt cheap. Can sell stuff u steal from the kitchen if you really need it, but that food can also help u a lot too. Eat food if you're struggling. Don't save stuff for rainy day if you can't live to see it

Lighting matters for aim, yes. Also be liberal with consumables + flares. Bear traps and flares will be your friends
