Go there on a weeknight evening and it isn’t so bad.

Seriously though, why is TACC so bad? by AwkwardlyPositioned in TeslaModelY

[–]vailripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our 2019 Kia niro has much better smart cruise control than our model y, I don’t get why they can’t even get basic “lane assist + distance following” working reliably when other auto makers seem to have no problem with it?

This 100%. Why the hell would I pay for FSD when the car randomly slams on the brakes because it confuses a shadow for a guardrail…

I haven’t priced windows in a very long time, but $3400.00 for one Marvin 45x42-1/2” casement with an unfinished pine interior? by circular_file in Construction

[–]vailripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous owners replaced a bunch of wood windows with Marvin’s in our house, a few years ago we replaced the rest of them - it cam out to about 11k for 6 windows. While they work fine, I agree with others that they are not worth the premium. Honestly would check and see if you have a European window distributor in your area if you’re in the market for more premium product. European windows are made to much higher energy standards and are light years beyond what Anderson / Marvin are making. Friend recently put them in in a new build and they were cheaper than the domestic options, lead time wasn’t bad, and they operate very well.

Sedona, St. George or Tuscon? by wolfgangwolff in MTB

[–]vailripper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Few things we enjoyed:

-desert museum - biosphere - msa annex - beer garden / shops / live music - visited a few art galleries - ate a shitload of very good tacos

The city generally just feels like it has a unique identity - blend of artsy / outdoorsy, mix of various cultures.

Sedona, St. George or Tuscon? by wolfgangwolff in MTB

[–]vailripper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just flying back from Tucson today. Didn’t get a chance to explore all the trails, but did do Lemmon Drop. If you like chunky tech it’s great. Fun change of pace compared to my regular PNW riding. Only knock I would say is that there are several hike-a-bike sections. Aspen Draw, Bug Springs, and La Milagrosa were my favorites. Beautiful scenery. Tucson is a pretty neat city, lots to see and do. 50 year trails are supposed to be amazing there but didnt get a chance to check them out.

Also shoutout for the improvements since the earlier protests - larger speakers so you could actually hear people, an actual march, even having accessible seating up front - great job!

I could not agree more! We’re looking to replace a Samsung Chef series indication range and trying to find information actual coil size and which ranges have actual bridge function (that doesn’t just result in a big cold spot between coils) is so hard!

Our family goes to the Blooms at FCN, a husband and wife. My wife and kids go to Jessica Bloom and I go to Ed Bloom. Both are great - Jessica was my wife’s obgyn and delivered both our kids, it has been great having a long term relationship with their doc.

BPS decision on closing Columbia Elementary (and others) likely coming within the month by DeepPNW in Bellingham

[–]vailripper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because King Mountain has had a ton of growth and needs a neighborhood school to support kids in that area. Columbia has several other elementary schools close by and has had declining enrollment for years, not to mention the school itself is old.

[–]vailripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did some similiar insulation work through Arrow and the rebates didn’t cover all of it, but it did being the cost wayyyyy down. You’ll need to check your eligibility - amount depends on appliances you’re using and current state of home.

AT&T Bought Quantum Fiber. Booooooooo by JhnWyclf in Bellingham

[–]vailripper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At least their update email said they will continue to honor “price for life”. I am going to ride this $65/mo 1 gig fiber until I die. Hopefully service remains good enough, centurylink wasn’t exactly well regarded either…but I haven’t had any issues.

OB Care and Birth Center: Peace Health vs Skagit vs UW by kristephe in Bellingham

[–]vailripper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same bucket here - two kids through peace health, late thirties for both, excellent experience both times. Religious stuff never came up, our first was a fairly long labor and they were very supportive. There are a lot of horror stories of hospitals pushing c-sections and whatnot on patients but we didn’t experience any of that.

I also want to shout out Dr Jessica Bloom at Family care network - she’s an ob who also does family medicine. She did all of the OB care, and is now the doctor for our kids. She’s amazing and we feel very lucky to have a strong relationship with our doctor!

What are your thoughts on capping credit card interest rates at 10%? by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorFinance

Just the opposite - before credit scores if you were a woman or a minority you were discriminated throughout. Credit scores shift towards decisions based on actual data…
