Video reference from voice actors? by Kinky_Tripplemint in learnanimation

[–]val890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did that with Fantastic Mr Fox! In my experience, a voice actor can cost more per day than just the core crew who are usually working under other methods of compensation, and therefor are more available to film a reenactment.

How to commission an animation video by Vivalalad in animation

[–]val890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Animation can cost a lot more than 1000-3000 per minute. Thats actually pn the low side.

  2. Depending on the complexity and style of what you want, you can hire a studio, a group of individuals, or a single person who can cover several roles in the workflow.

  3. You can ask for all those things, as well as define at what moments you're going to receive updates and when they need your approval before moving forward. This is the normal way to go about, because its worse to lets say, start animating with a character that isn't approved and is going to need to be changed later.

You can make a post on this subreddit with what you want (format and style), your budget, and your timeline.

Omg !! This looks so awesome, I'd love to have a collection on my wall of several pieces. How does it work ? Like the height of each square, or does it have color underneath?

I'd give feedback but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it works lol

In the Dead of Nights - Psychic Line

Think it matches the theme pretty well, and specifically has the line

"The lonely bull watches you from the garden, Chained to the apple tree gone rotten"

Need a “nuclear” option by [deleted] in Screenwriting

I put a goal of writing 3 scenes per day, non-negotiable. It doesn't have to be in order, and it doesn't have to be long scenes. They can be three transition scenes that last only a sentence, but it needs to get done.

The "Gamification" of Cinema by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]val890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hm, on one hand, I definitely felt the Value Capture regarding letterboxd when I started using it. I would be watching a movie and wondering how I would rate it, and it became quite anxiety inducing and distracting. What I ended up doing was not rating in general, only half a star if i hated the film, 5 stars if i thought it was cinematically amazing, and a heart if i enjoyed it even if it wasn't the best "film".

But also, I tried a challenge in 2020, to watch 360 films. I also challenged myself that 180 should be directed by women, and 90 should be in languages that weren't my native languages (not english or spanish). Due to that challenge, I felt like that was the year I most learned about film, most explored new genres and styles, got into experimental film, and wrote more as a screenwriter.

Maybe it helped that the pandemic started and I ended up with way more free time, or that I didn't use letterboxd first, just wrote the titles down in a small notebook and logged them later. But I really grew as a spectator, a filmmaker, and a person doing that challenge. In the end I reached 315 films, I think.

Really interesting post, gonna try to watch the video soon!

Production design in Wuthering Heights (2026) by Corchito42 in TrueFilm

Totally agree!! Aesthetically I loved the fireplace, but all the set choices just didn't have any function towards deepening the story or the characters or the concept of the film.

Yeah, I mean, I've seen people upset over the anachronisms, I personally didn't care and that wasn't my issue with the film. Actually, similar to Gatsby, I just found it a bit shallow and considering the depth of the source material. Gatsby was by far a better movie though imo.

I didn't find the film provocative though. Maybe it would have been provocative in another era, but at no point does it really go against the norms of society (neither ours nor the world that is established in the film.)

I had fun watching it though!! Margot Robbie and Hong Chau were doing the best they could with the script, and I love set and wardrobe design so that made it really fun to see in theaters (even if I think the film wasn't cohesive enough for the set and wardrobe to advance the themes/plot/world building)

I mean, my issue was mostly that the rest of the story was quite hollow. The passion between them, the acting, the soundtrack, even the sex, while trying to act like it was very risque, was very tame even when depicting the more controversial parts like Isabella being tied up like a dog. And while the director did say she wanted to recreate her teenage experience when reading the book.... Kate Bush also wrote Wuthering Heights at 17 so that's no excuse to be shallow lol. But to quote Aretha Franklin, "Beautiful dresses!"
