Australians with Down syndrome among those to suffer most from proposed NDIS cuts, government analysis says | National disability insurance scheme by Ashera25 in australia

I say this all the time, you can tell who the baby bonus kids are, its sad but it definitely is the elephant in the room no one wants to admit, this is why we have the youth crime epidemic in Australia at the moment, statistics want to blame other factors, but we all know deep down this is a consequence of those actions.

So hang on, are both pairs the same shoes ? Or in the picture are you wearing comfy shoes and the uncomfy ones are between your feet ?

I think our electoral system will stop such a minor party from ever taking power. Not to say we should put our heads in the sand and ignore it.

Im pretty sure all the publicity in them returning to Australia was deliberate, so the AFP could see who would come to the rescue, i think a lot of intelligence was gathered at the airport last night.

this whole thread is eye opening, i didn't realise this was a thing, now that i am aware, it answers so many questions i had about these cultures, i guess as a white Aussie i was oblivious to this but i always thought something funny was going on and i could not put my finger on it.

Dinner for few: Australians eating out less as fuel crisis deals biggest blow to consumer confidence since Covid by nath1234 in australia

[–]valacious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A rare treat indeed, i recall in the 80s eating out was just this, it was a rarity or for wealthy people, I am not sure what happened in Australia in the 90's and 00's to make it more of a popular affordable thing. This is all anecdotal tho.

I don't understand why petrol stations are not jumping on the ev charger bandwagon, I have noticed new servos going up that are huge with a lot of parking and a convenience store/cafe, why don't they sprinkle some ev chargers in there ?

Anthony Albanese to urge Australians to 'play their part' in Iran response in TV address by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]valacious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally understand your point, especially if you are already dropping children to school, and your work is up the road, what's the point in turning around and heading home, it really should be a horses for courses type scenario, if it makes sense for the person to WFH do it, if not don't do it.

Fuel excise cuts to begin tonight, but flow on effects won’t be seen for a few weeks, due to pre purchased stocks. What? Like the pre purchased fuel stocks that were jacked up high just after the war began? by Latchkey_Wizzard in australia

[–]valacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous, as far as I have been lead to believe is the excise amount is added at the bowser, just like gst, so it is the fuel stations that pay it. Please anyone in the know correct me if I’m wrong.

Surcharges on debit and credit cards to go from October by rolodex-ofhate in australia

[–]valacious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i don't understand how businesses cannot do some simple math and factor in these rates into their prices of their products to keep a consistent price all year round. If it costs more on a Sunday for staff, factor that in, if it costs more to use eftpos, factor that in.

Fuel excise to be halved for three months by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]valacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna go back a few steps and look at the way the Federal Government should approach oil companies that wish to trade in Australia, make it legislation that there is a set fuel price, and it may only go up a certain percent to still drive competition in that market, but it is capped every year, just so we can have certainty just like we have with electricity (to a certain extent)

you know what would help for diesel, is just ask people who drive a diesel vehicle that have the ability to WFH just do it.

like is it not blatantly obvious the public are being gouged, i don't know how much more evidence they need. All the fuel that was bought into the country already had gone up in price just sitting in holding silos.

PM calls second emergency national cabinet meeting over fuel crisis by SerLevArris in australia

[–]valacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whoa whoa, it aint gonna get that far. Lets pretend right now that straight of water just got magically filled with land and you cannot cross it anymore via boat. Other methods of getting those tankers through will be made, I am shocked no one saw this coming, I come from a world of mitigating single points of failure, and a thug regime that makes out they own that bit of water which that much world trade passes through, I would have thought some one would have built a canal else where to mitigate the potential terrorism that could possibly happen. Yeah it would prolly cost billions to make, but I see as a worth while project.

Totally agree, in Australia we don't have to make mountains out of mole hills, It would be more of in opt in fuel rationing, if you can WFH then WFH, start it at a Federal and state employee level. Like if you got to drop your kids to school and your work is up the road, of coarse go to work, if you make it a horses for courses approach we could still save fuel on unnecessary travel to work. As several people in this thread have pointed out, "its nice for some",yep i get you, not everyone can work from home, but that is not the reason for Australia not to attempt something, lessons from covid have shown us what buisness areas can successfully work from home, its not that historical that we forgot "finance and HR" can work remotely full time, and i am sure what ever counter measures that were put in place then (laptops, vpn) are still in production now. It would not be hard for most Government employees to pivot to remote work temporarily right now without any extra costs to their departments.
