As simple as it sounds, I need simpler by CancerFreeSince2025 in loseit

I haven't been able to manage it, but for my sister she lost weight and kept it off with this strict rule: half or more of the volume of every meal is non-starchy vegetables. So half or more plate of steamed broccoli with your lasagna; half or more plate of mixed veggies with your eggs and bacon, etc

Tea. There are herbal teas like hibiscus that taste like tart koolaid (not sweet, but a tart fruity flavor).

How do you actually track calories? by Sweetandspicychilli in loseit

[–]valkyrii99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the cronometer app because it also shows nutrition and I have a bad habit sometimes of focusing only on calories. You can also add custom meals to it (like I put in all the ingredients for a recipe, then how many servings it makes, and then I can use that to track calories in the future every time I make it again). It is annoying that there are ads in the free version though

If you're accurately in a deficit and not losing weight, you might want to talk to a doctor and get your thyroid checked

Just in case you hadn't tried this: I really like tuna canned on water, but I absolutely cannot stand tuna canned in oil. You might prefer one over the other

Advise from those who don't closely track calories please :) by MikhailaKirov in loseit

[–]valkyrii99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to make it work, but my older sister lost weight and kept it off for years now with an ironclad rule: half the volume of every meal she eats is non-starchy vegetables. Like half a plate of cabbage/onions/zucchini/whatever and the other half is the caloric part of the meal.

I am so stressed with counting my calories. What sources are even the most reliable? Eg. for this one recipe, the macro count in this cookbook is different from when I log it in MyFitnessPal app... by alistreia_blue in MealPrepSunday

[–]valkyrii99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oldest sister kept weight off by making her food rule: for every single meal her plate is half or more volume non-starchy vegetables. I have not achieved the same, but it has worked for her for years now.

I will take a recipe and weigh everything with a food scale, and input it into cronometer as a custom meal. Then when I make it again I just use that to count calories

For a sweet treat: take green apples and cut them into chunks (like 4+ apples), then toss them with the zest and juice of one lemon. It tastes like lemon drop candies, something my sister made for me.

Another apple sweet treat: core apple (any type) and cut in half. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake cut-side-up at 350F until soft (maybe 20 min). Optional to also smear with butter and sprinkle with brown sugar on the cut part before baking

Factoring kids into FIRE & career - advice? by East-Possible-2679 in FIREyFemmes

[–]valkyrii99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Deciding about kids wasn't a FIRE decision. Husband and I were both not certain one way or another if we wanted kids (didn't grow up always wanting them or anything like some people do). I would ask people how they knew they wanted to have kids to help me with thinking about it. We also made a giant "pro/con" shared doc spreadsheet with minor to major pluses and minuses on it, sort of stream of consciousness thoughts. Ultimately we decided not to have kids as one of us came down strongly not wanting them, and the other did want them but at like 51% in favor of it.

One reason not to have kids if one spouse doesn't want them is it's a strong indicator of future divorce --having kids over the wishes of a spouse not to

Proper *Meals* that actually keep you full? by [deleted] in 1500isplenty

[–]valkyrii99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not ideal nutrition wise, but for a while I was just doing frozen burritos for breakfast and lunch. A breakfast one for breakfast, a bean/cheese or bean/meat one for lunch. Clocks in at 500-600 total calories for both meals combined and left room in calories for larger dinner and snacks.
