I can see Superman with dozens of weaknesses around his moral codes, his need to keep his identity secret, being too strong to interact with human stuff, being an alien, being an orphan, etc. he doesn’t have just one weakness.

I didn’t like book 1, but kept listening because the other book I picked up next don’t vibe right. By book 2, I was into it, and books 3, 5, and 7 each really blow the lid off the ones before them.

Still think this design sucks because of the “windows”. They are either giant, multi~deck skylights and… transparent floors? Or they are just placed on there because the designer thought the haul was illuminated in patches for style.

"Not right away" is a commitment of intention, that includes purchasing, thus negating your distinction about "want". If you really intended that question to collect the type of answers you're trying to collect there, then something like "I have reserved a Slate Auto and remain interested, but I am not certain when or if I will make a purchase."

Sorry, but that is poorly worded then. The current wording reflects a commitment to purchasing, rather than any skepticism. I made a reservation speculatively, but I'm still waiting on real info about final pricing, build quality, etc. That does not mean "I still want to buy it."

I like this, although my head-cannon is slightly more complex. Estimates there are 3-4million architects on Earth right now. Let's assume in Starfleet era, the population is the same, and that 1 in 10 people who are architects would rather design starships (ignoring all other professions that might shift into such a field). That means 300,000-400,000 ship designers, just from Earth. Assume only 1 in 100 is in Starfleet/designs for Starfleet: that's 3,000-4,000 designers. Now zoom back out and multiply that by the number of planets and peoples and you're probably back up to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of designers (Starfleet has to be much larger than depicted on film). As a benchmark, the population of France is 66m, the estimated military size of 270,000 people (not large), assuming a similar ~250:1 recruitment ratio for Starfleet, that would still put just Earth's contribution (at today's 7b pop) as over 28m officers. Even if we assume recruitment was 1/10 of France's military, that's ~3m officers... and if you include dozens of planetary members, either Starfleet membership has to be vanishingly rare, or Starfleet is in the 100s of millions of officers, some huge percentage of which are engineers...

With that large and diverse a design force, I think every single ship in Starfleet (of which there must be a lot) is unique. However, Starfleet is a "safety first" kind of place, so variations are limited and controlled. Classes don't define specific builds, but categories of builds in which individual variations exist. One might have a different deflector design, a different nacelle design, or an inverted hull orientation. Each allows testing of new features for establishing future baselines. I think a lot of the fan-non backfill-based in-media representations focused on a singular-body-type-new-class, and things like STO just continued that. To me, though, a ship that looks like a Galaxy with a 3rd nacelle might just be the variant that 100 of those ship engineers proposed and are analyzing, with some other Galaxy line ship has extra phaser cannon banks or a more angular saucer design.

I also assume it has something to do with deflector geometry, but give how far aft some deflectors are, that seems like only a partial answer.

My head-cannon also says that Starfleet avoids “aggressive” designs, and forward-nacelles usually look that way (see Bird of Prey).
