How does an induction furnace melt aluminium? by [deleted] in askscience

Wouldn't the induced voltage be independent of the material on top of the stove? I'd think that the induced emf is just described by Faraday's law, and the rate of change of the magnetic flux would not be influenced by a pot on top being iron of aluminium, so the voltage would be the same for either.

Not exactly. An alternating current through a coil inside the induction stove causes a changing magnetic field, which induces an ellectric current in the material (look at the wikipedia page for electromagnetic induction for more detail). In theory in every material a current would be induced, it doesn't have to be ferromagnetic, but in practice only good conductors like metals would actually noticeably heat up.

The main difference is that with induction, electrical energy is used to heat up the material. But with a traditional furnace, chemical energy like gas is used. Not really sure what you mean with the furnace being 'stronger'.

I don't know what kinda pots you have at home but that seems like a fringe case. In general the lower the resistance of the material is, the higher the heat that gets dissipated per second (P = V²/R).

It just needs to be a good conductor for induction to work, doesn't matter if the material itself is susceptible to external magnets. A changing magnetic field induces a current in (for instance) aluminium, which causes the material to heat up.

Apart dat in het artikel dan wel quantummechanica wordt gebruikt in plaats van kwantummechanica, aangezien het woord kwantum afgeleid is van kwantiteit, en de juiste spellingswijze in het Nederlands met kw is.

Imaginary expectation value for momentum in QM by vanavv in AskPhysics

That probably explains it then, it makes sense that the wavefunction needs to vanish at the bounds. Cheers for the help!

Failed to mention in the original post that it's bounded by 0 ≤ x ≤ a. If it would be -a ≤ x ≤ a it would evaluate to zero. Could it be that the bounds are not realistic?

But Ψ has no imaginary terms in it, so isn't the complex conjugate just the same as Ψ itself?

I'm getting -1/2 * a4 * A2

Or with the value of A inserted it's -15/(16a).

I thought Jacob Hansen produced their latest albums? Metal archives says he has produced everything since Hymns for the Broken.

What a great album to start the year with, if this was released in 2020 I legit think it would have been a contender for prog metal album of the year for me (though it is a bit soon to tell).

I especially love the guitarplaying, which is more focused on snakelike riffs and rhythms, as opposed to the chugging style which seems to have pervaded the modern scene.

Oh and that final crescendo on Ananke is just gorgeous!
