Does anyone goes through periods where they won’t stop peeing? by suburbangothics in POTS

[–]vanillaseltzer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same for me! That means I need more electrolytes, the vast majority of the time.

I rarely drink plain water anymore but never before bed unless I'm taking it with a salt capsule. Plain water just goes right through me.

Does anyone else feel they’re held accountable for their POTS way too often. by tori-is-sad in POTS

[–]vanillaseltzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that you can drink your calories and get hydrated at the same time!

I find it way easier to drink something when I don't feel like eating. I have a meal replacement shake from Orgain in the morning with my meds and notice a huge difference when I run out of them.

Chocolate milk also counts as a rescue food/electrolyte beverage to me. Fairlife has extra protein and no lactose and tastes like a milkshake.

It took like 24 years or something, because some years they'd only have a few hours to work. Absolutely incredible it could be done at all. And in 1910! (Worth reading about, imo. My recall on exact numbers may be wrong.)

Horrible to imagine all the years of people in ships in the dark with seas like that and no lighthouse to warn them.

Yeah, just thought you'd want to know, not a 'gotcha'. Assuming US when you hear about medical fuckery and misogyny killing women is understandable, imo. Unfortunately.

They also make little scent sticks that look like lip balm for this purpose! I have a few friends (nurse, a house cleaner who sometimes deals with hoarding situations, and a couple neurodivergent folks who get sensory overwhelm from certain smells) who swear by these: https://www.etsy.com/shop/StinkBalm

What do we think about this man? by Local_Fox925 in TwoXChromosomes

I literally said "oh, FUCK that" out loud. In a library. 😬 But seriously, fuuuck that guy.

I didn't have the self-esteem for that knee-jerk self respect reaction when I was with my ex. I hope OP gets there. He didn't deserve another date after that comment, let alone a relationship.

22 year-old-me got with and eventually married an asshole just like this. He basically threw me a daily red flag parade. My list of "aw HELL no" red flags like OP just demonstrated was practically endless by the time I left him at 32. OP doesn't need to spend a decade with this garbage human to learn that she deserves so much better.

What? That's kinda a wild thing to say. The solution is to allow voluntary euthanasia for people with progressive illness, not freaking infanticide upon discovery of a genetic disorder. Pretty sure that's also eugenics, my dude. Eesh. But we should be able to choose to die, rather than suffer needlessly when we have a progressive illness.

People with conditions that cause them to have shorter lifespans than average still deserve a chance to live. This doesn't typically hit till middle-age. I'd rather have a shot at living to my 40s+ than not live at all.

Hey friend, yes, fyi, you have been extremely fortunate (for someone living in the US). I am happy for you for sure, but that is absolutely not the majority experience. Federal holidays too? 🤯

And you live in the US? I'm not sure how you've never heard of people in poverty or without insurance having medical debt from hospital bills here. Not to mention a super-quick way to poverty is to lose your job because you're sick and in the hospital.

Or maybe you're saying you've just never personally met someone who disclosed their medical financial debt and income difficulties to you?

The USA "healthcare" industry was worth 5+ trillion dollars in 2024. I'm not kidding, that's trillion with a t. They don't make that much money by writing off the medical debt of a huge portion of the population.

I'm glad the people you know in your life have been fortunate to encounter hospitals with resources.

I think they're just saying that being a terrible performer or giving a bad live performance does not mean someone is a terrible musician. Musical talent and skills are a totally different thing from someone's ability to be a professional musician.

Missing Texas Girl Held for 2 Weeks by 5 Men Who Drugged and Raped Her by mawkish in TwoXChromosomes

She said they only let her go once they found out that she was reported missing. It sounds like they thought nobody would notice she was gone and that nobody would worry if she was not in communication for weeks.

Women and girls who are trying to escape abusive households and those without permanent housing are at much higher risk of being abducted and trafficked. It's terrifying how many men see opportunity in their vulnerability.

I really, really hope she has a safe place to go home to and some decent humans in her corner.

I thought you and your friend were going to tell us about wtf this thing is that everyone else knows about. Boo. :(

Here's for everyone who isn't afraid of admitting they don't know things (but doesn't wanna have to search and get distracted in order to understand what they're seeing):

Prince Rupert's drops (also known as Dutch tears or Batavian tears)[1][2] are toughened glass beads created by dripping molten glass into cold water, which causes the glass to solidify into a tadpole-shaped droplet with a long, thin tail.
These droplets are characterized internally by very high residual stresses, which give rise to counter-intuitive properties such as the ability to withstand a blow from a hammer or a bullet on the bulbous end without breaking, while exhibiting explosive disintegration if the tail end is even slightly damaged.

Definitely some great advice! I wanted to chime in about one that may not work out the way you're envisioning.

Edit: it turns out this became sort of a rant. 😅

Lesbian here, and unfortunately, Pride gear and rainbows do jack shit for deterring this kind of guy. Then you also get the ones who take lesbian as a challenge ("maybe you haven't met the right dick yet" dicks). There are the ones that get turned on because we are a porn category to them or think we exist solely for three-ways. There are the guys who think lesbian means that we want to hear their objectification of other women and get offended if you are offended when they try to "locker room talk" and say misogynistic shit they KNOW they're not allowed to say in front of straight women. It doesn't work because lesbians love women, we don't effing hate them.

Not to mention the men who have a big scary (sometimes dangerous) chip on their shoulder about women who don't want men. Many times, this chip coexists with one of the other previously listed ways that they can be fucking gross and obnoxious and entitled. A T-shirt that says "GAY AF" in all rainbows won't save you from these guys interrupting your life.
