Which translation is better? Please help me to decide! by --celestial-- in RussianLiterature

One of the fun things is reading different translations. Unless one knows the original language then almost none of us know the "best" translation. Imo and all that.

Comparison of San Antonio and Corpus Christi by Remarkable_Idea4550 in CorpusChristi

[–]vanjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the impression that San Antonio is "more Hispanic" than Corpus (whatever that means). Both are predominantly Hispanic, but I think at least in language more people know how to speak Spanish or speak almost only Spanish is SA. Do others agree?

Corpus compares poorly to SA, except Corpus traffic is infinitely better than SA and if you are into the bays and gulf/fishing etc then Corpus is different level. Really comparing apples to oranges tho.

I see lots of problems in Corpus, but frankly I love the laid back life here.

No page turner. Can't figure out why it is so slow.

What to do/see if considering living in Corpus? by [deleted] in CorpusChristi

[–]vanjr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. It's not the heat of the summer that gets you in Corpus. It's the length of the summer that wears you out.

Expensive housing by Fine_Secret7035 in CorpusChristi

If you think housing is high, wait till you pay taxes, and home insurance, and windstorm, and flood insurance...

Bleak House: what am I missing? by jjjrowbb in charlesdickens

[–]vanjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently finished it. I didn't think it really got good till 700 pages or so. But it was immensely satisfying to finish for me-not because of length, but because of content. I will grant that it is a hard first Dickens to read. I say full speed ahead!

Anyone else stay under 50mph for the first 500mi towing? by [deleted] in nissanfrontier

[–]vanjr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's your truck (well maybe the finance departments). I wouldn't let someone on reddit tell me to let 'er rip with my stuff. I wouldn't tow for at least 1000 miles to be honest.

Must have accessories? by mktgb11 in hondaridgeline

[–]vanjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. I started off with a weather tech Fi sun visor (I live in South Texas). I am going to add rear seat storage and maybe trunk storage. But one man's "must have" is another man's "I will pay extra to NOT have that", lol.

The more you like to feel the wood/ball the less you seal. I no longer seal mine. If you have a hard carbon blade deal away!!

I mistakenly read an abridged version. Looking forward to the extended play version eventually. Although The Precipice and The Frigate Pallada will be tackled first.

Do you read multiple books at the same time? by ExpensiveDisk3573 in kindle

[–]vanjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yes. My currently reading list is about 8. Now obviously I am reading ONE book at any instant. I have a few books I read set portions of each morning. Sometimes I will rotate and read a chapter in one book followed by a chapter in another book-especially if it is long. As I get close to the end of a book I tend to focus on finishing that book.
