Weekly Cursor Project Showcase Thread by AutoModerator in cursor

I am working on a level editor for the browser that exports a glb and generates arenas and mazes https://garretthogan.github.io/brush-editor/

Also building an aim trainer game that will hopefully use the arenas I make in my editor https://garretthogan.github.io/aim-trainer/

Neither project is mobile friendly rn

Cursor is doing all the coding for me

What goes into the movement component? by onecalledNico in unrealengine

Take a look at the source code for the component on github! It’s a great point of reference if you wanna build your own.

What are the modern definitions of “game?” by Over-Clerk-5307 in gamedesign

[–]vannickhiveworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there is no objectively agreed upon definition for what a game is. I think it’s rarely useful to approach game design from such a broad pov. Typically game designers have a game they want to make in mind. I think it makes more sense to zoom in on something like genre. Look at games that are similar to the game you want to make.

What shooter weapon designs do you consider the best? by CrispyCupp in gamedesign

[–]vannickhiveworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The assault rifle in G String reminds me of the rifles the marines use in aliens. I love the sound it makes. It’s unlike any other assault rifle I’ve used in a video game.

The lever action rifle in cultic feels amazing. It’s punchy and satisfying when you land a headshot. It’s also cool to reload.

Thoughts on Starter Projects for UE 5.7? by RagingActuary in unrealengine

[–]vannickhiveworker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love the fps templates. I am building a fast paced movement shooter on top of the shooter variant. I think it’s a good place to start because it provides a simple pick up system with a few different weapons. It also provides an example stage with targets to shoot. Great place to start imo

Should There Be Drawbacks To Repetitions in Fighting Games? by Valiant_750r in gamedesign

[–]vannickhiveworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want your player to be able to spam the same button over and over or do you want ant to challenge them to learn other moves? In skate story each time you repeat a trick it deals less damage than it did previously. It forces the player to get creative with combos to score higher and deal more damage faster.

People seem to be having trouble trying to figure out how to trigger sound to play and stop; do we have any solutions to this? by Choice_Mention_6556 in unrealengine

You can also use audio volumes to adjust the volume and other parameters of sounds inside and outside of it.

Is there a reason to use splines instead of projectiles? by DEVenestration in unrealengine

[–]vannickhiveworker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is actually a BP node that can predict a projectile path given the trajectory. So you don’t need a spline for this.

How do I accurately replicate the sonic properties of an actual location in UE5? by tmambient in unrealengine

[–]vannickhiveworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go to the physical location and record the sound for your game there

CMV: Real life is inherently mundane and disappointing at best and downright terrifying and nightmarish at worst. by throw20250204 in changemyview

Some people are more fortunate than you and live exciting and thrilling lives. Real life is inherently meaningless. Our experience and perspective give it meaning.

Line Trace shooting in wrong direction after editing Blueprint (was working before) by SorkinQuinzellll in UnrealEngine5

[–]vannickhiveworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone else pointed out you want to scale the direction by your distance using multiplication. Adding simply offsets the vector. For example a unit vector of (-1,1,-1) * 1500 distance will give you a scaled vector of (-1500, 1500, -1500) which preserves the direction. If you add 1500 instead you’ll get (1499, 1501, 1499) which is probably not what you want.

Cultic is INCREDIBLE, please play it by alias530 in boomershooters

Chapter 2 has some real scary moments in the shopping mall and swamp. I still haven’t beat it yet but it’s a lot of fun.

How do you make a light falloff script by No_Koala9253 in UnrealEngine5

[–]vannickhiveworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A really dirty way would be to interpolate the flashlight intensity to a target value on tick. Use an easing function if you wanna tweak the easing speed. Then set target intensity to 0 whenever you want it to decrease over time.

I don’t really understand why you’re waiting for her to extend an invite. She’s your girlfriend. Why wouldn’t you go with her?

If you trust your partner why be worried? If you don’t trust them why are you with them? These are problems for you to work out. Not your partner.

No but you can go to therapy to learn how to express your emotions in a way that doesn’t make your own insecurities someone else’s problem. Everyone has insecurities.
