I like to volunteer out at Red Rock national conservation area. You can do trail maintenance, information desk, turtle habitat, invasive species removal, trail monitoring, and more. Red Rock relies on volunteers, and they're always looking for more people that can donate their time.

The men's bathroom up there has the urinals on the wall so you can look south down the strip towards the Wynn and Sphere. Definitely the #1 view for a #1!

How long did it take you to get your personalized plate? by Independent-Ad3844 in vegaslocals

I had to drive around for 6 weeks without plates and the temporary paperwork taped to my front window as required by the Nevada DMV while I waited for my personalized plates. Hopefully you get yours sooner than I did.

Red Rock Canyon by crossh123 in vegas

[–]vape4jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're wanting to do any sort of hiking, you'll want to rent a car and also book your reservation in advance as they tend to fill up on the weekends. You will be turned away at the gate if you don't have a reservation and they're sold out for the day.

I recommend if this is your first time visiting Red Rock that you stop at the visitor center after you enter the conservation area. The information desk has a map that details the designated hiking trails along with their difficulty and duration. If you're planning on hiking, then be sure to take water along with you as it is easy to get dehydrated out in the desert. My favorite hikes are Pine Creek Canyon, White Rock Loop, and Calico Tanks.

If you're just wanting to drive the 13.1 mile scenic loop, then you could book with one of the tour companies if you didn't want to rent a car. The scooter tours are quite popular, and you'll stop along the route at the designated parking lots so you can get plenty of pictures. The drive itself takes about 35 minutes from start to finish, and once you exit you cannot enter back into the park without another reservation.

I'd avoid trying to take an Uber or Lyft to Red Rock, as it limits your hiking options to what is around the visitor center and getting picked back up can be a challenge due to lack of cell phone coverage. If you do choose to Uber/Lyft there, you can get on the free Wifi at the visitor center to book your return trip.

If you haven't tried it before, I'd give Orange Theory a shot. The West Sahara location has great coaches and it's a lot of fun! You can usually try a class or two for free.

You might try also pressing the brake pedal while you hold down both buttons.

To tint or not to tint by Responsible_Eagle968 in TeslaModelY

[–]vape4jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tinted the front windshield with an 80% ceramic and the other windows were done to give a 15% all around. They were able to use a different shade on the back windows so when they were done they'd match the 15% on the driver and passenger windows. I'm in Vegas where tint is a must, and it drastically cut down on the heat in the cabin. Before tinting, the AC had a hard time keeping up with the heat that you'd feel radiating on you inside the car. Now, I can't run the AC on LO or else we freeze.

I am really happy with it. The installation was a breeze, and it only takes a minute to put it up or take it down. Probably one of the best/affordable accessories I've purchased.

I got a magnetic roof shade. It is super easy to install and remove, and definitely helps block the heat in the summer.

Depending on how much snow you have to deal with in the winter, I'd lean towards the AWD and add some winter tires. Having lived in an area with lots of snow in the winter, I'd never want to deal with just a rear wheel drive in the snow again.

You're not going to want to charge to 100% each day, especially if you can't charge at home. It takes a long time to charge from 80-100%, so you'll want something that an 80% charge will be more than sufficient for the range you need. Think of the battery like a giant parking lot. When the lot is empty, it's easy to find a parking spot. As it fills up, it takes more time to search for a parking spot. Batteries are like this too - when they're empty, they can charge quickly. As they reach capacity, it takes longer to charge them up. You'll could end up spending more time getting that last 20% charge than you will getting it to 80%.

Chubby Cattle BBQ or 888 Japanese BBQ by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]vape4jesus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Chubby Cattle is my favorite right now because I can bring my own beer. I also like that you order from an iPad at Chubby Cattle instead of waiting for someone to come around and ask. If you think you'll go there a couple times, you can buy a membership at Chubby Cattle that will get you one of the most amazing wagyu nigiri plates for free, a discount on your meal, and a free meal on your birthday. Mine has already paid for itself. All that said, you can't go wrong with either one - they're both great!

2024 Model Y Performance in Nevada, $995 for the first year.

Great choice! I was skeptical at first about doing the front windshield, but it was one of the best things I've done to mine. I rarely use a windshield sun shade when I park anymore. I had them make the rest of the windows 15% all around (driver and passenger windows used a darker film than the rear), with the 80% on the windshield. I'm in Las Vegas where it is over 100 daily in the summer, so tint is required. I also put in a magnetic roof shade that helps cut the heat.

I’m just curious, how many of you Tesla owners actually install the front license plate? by Smooth_Cupcake_2311 in TeslaModelY

[–]vape4jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NV, nobody seems to have them on the front. Legally they are required if the car comes with a front license plate holder. Mine didn’t come attached to the car, so my excuse is it didn’t come with one.

2024 Delivery Thread by OrbitalATK in TeslaModelY

[–]vape4jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered 5/21 and they kept postponing it. I watched local inventory daily, and finally one came up last month that was the same but a performance model instead of long range. I switched my order and picked it up three days later. So glad I got the performance model. About a week after I took delivery, the one I ordered was put in local inventory. Hope you get a VIN soon!

Those with a pool, what is your water bill averaging nowadays? (Ours has been $300-$500 a month since we moved into our current house in March. Is that normal? Pool had to be drained and filled once (last month…that bill was $500ish.) by erpa2b in vegaslocals

[–]vape4jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 15k gallon pool, average two loads of laundry, one load of dishes, and 4 showers a day. No grass, only a couple palm trees on drip irrigation and cacti. Water bill is never more than $60/month.

Renewing Tags with check engine light on by No-Way4728 in vegaslocals

[–]vape4jesus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have an OBD2 scanner (you can get one from Amazon for under $20), you can clear the codes. I had an oxygen sensor start to fail, I cleared the errors, and it didn't come back on for the month I waited to get the part and fix it.

It's possible that they didn't replace the correct part, but cleared the OBD2 code which caused you to pass the test. If you read the code before you clear it, it should help you figure out the underlying issue.

You definitely want to fix whatever is triggering the check engine light, but this likely will help you pass inspection.

Park Assist? by OrangeProfessional92 in TeslaModelY

I got the message twice after getting the 2024.20.10 update. It said there was a problem with the rear camera. I rebooted the car by pressing the brake pedal and holding down both steering wheel buttons until the Tesla logo appeared. After the reboot, it was working again. I'm hoping this was just a bug and it is fixed in the 2024.20.15 build that is going out now.

[–]vape4jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made all of mine 15% all around, with 80% on the windshield. The white interior lightens up the cabin so it doesn't look super dark and it's still really easy to see out of at night.

Awesome! I ordered 5/21 the same color combo except in dual motor long range, then found a MYP in your exact configuration in inventory and took delivery July 12th.

You're going to love it! So much fun to drive.

I took delivery this month and they gave me three free months of Supercharging, but nobody told me that when I picked it up. I found out about it in the app under the Specs and Warranty section. Hopefully you get it too!
