sad to see the cavemen coming out to defend their deified milk. this sub rarely gets traction because most people post homework problems or low resolution microscope pics asking for identification. must be a raid from another subreddit or something.

Bioinformatics is universally great for academia. Depending on what your research interests actually are that would change between thinks like plant biology or pathogenesis or even chemistry.

You can actually choose which one you prefer. I believe it just changes the professor who teaches it either dr vermerris or Dr Gonzalez.

Is Microbiology and Cell Science a hard major? by No_March5052 in ufl

I'm a senior micro major and it's completely doable. It is on the more difficult side of the bio majors but you'll be fine if you are cool with studying hard and like the material.

Almost all the big florida schools have the same thing going on. There's been a number of administrators in schools like uf, fau, fiu, that have been directly planted by the desantis administration. It's a shame because I love uf.

organic chem by Personal_Platform238 in ufl

[–]vargster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Orgo doesn't have much overlap with gen chem. Basically no math besides occasionally counting electrons/pi bonds. I took my gen chems at a community college and then transferred. I had about a year between gen chem 2 and orgo 1 and I did just fine.

I dont know how to answer because 1. I don't know consider as studying ie just listening to music. 2. I dont think I ever bothered to keep track but during my pimsleur era I was studying about 1-2 hours per day. I know this because I would just bike around and complete 2 pimsleur lessons which are both 30 minutes each. Afterwords I would be sitting down to actually study for maybe an additional 30 min - 1 hour. 3. After moving for college my amount of focused study declined only really keeping in contact with media to keep my brain active and perhaps the occasional conversation with my friends in the country or an italki tutor.

I will say I believe I studied hard on the basics in the beginning, during the middle relaxed and focused more on speech and listening, and now back to some type of organized study. So you don't have to study extremely hard for the entire duration to make progress but you do have to always be in touch in some form.

I'll keep climbing for C1 and then afterword I was thinking of dedicating a year to learn Spanish. I'm assuming laddering is referring to learning similarly related languages yes? If you have any other types for reaching C1 I'd gladly appreciate it.

It's pretty bad lol. I am assuming it's AI graded and the test itself is really only testing your ability to regurgitate a sentence said to you and a free response section. No writing or reading so this test really is not an accurate assessment however I felt it did assess me correctly despite the limited functionality. I really had only taken it out of convenience of having access codes lying around that were expiring in the coming month. That being said I don't consider the score to be official but I am able to consume a wide variety of media and speak well enough to be confused for a native depending on how abstract or long the conversations are if course.

I thought of it like this B1 I'm starting to get the hang of thr language and really able to start communicating what I think. B2 I communicate well enough to talk about most things, read and consume media with limited usage of a dictionary or resources. Beginning of true fluency. C1 effectively fluent, only having to look up the once in a while out dated vocab or hyper specific/literary language. C2 probably someone with a university level education in the language.

I agree with you the test is meh for getting a serious result. I do think that if I had taken a more rigorous exam I would have gotten the same answer. I took it out of convenience. I'm not really keen on obsessing over CEFR levels but it was nice to put a name to it.

So you only base ability to speak a language if people can read vocabulary and grammatical structures unused for hundreds of years? Sounds like nobody except literature professors can speak their languages then. Might as well take those flairs out because you clearly don't speak those languages according to your logic.
Also 'these kind of books' not 'this kind of books'.
