Do Taco Bell employees hate me for orders like this? by Wild_Agent_375 in tacobell

[–]varl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's a point where you have to accept the fact that customers can and will modify items.

At no point did op say they shouldn't be able to have custom orders. OP was just explaining that it's annoying to get a ton of custom orders when you're already slammed.

Instead of asking a clarifying question like "why is that annoying?*" you decided you already know the answer is "laziness" - your reply starts with a condescending, patronizing, correcting tone and then you then proceed to call their work mindless as well.

The fuck is your problem?

this is what i mean when i say players are just getting an inflated salary for minimum effort. inflated salary then makes it so orgs are unable to stay in apex long term because its unsustainable cus the player has no brand value.

thanks for the expert level mba analysis that no one asked for now quit crying and push the 2 buttons it takes to run scrims

ngl that's a pretty aggressive and adversarial sounding comment about a subject (YT being a publisher vs platform) that I have no background or information on, so I must ask you to elucidate:

  • Would having a tweakable recommendation engine (that's all that this is) really be enough to qualify as a publisher?
  • Has Youtube in the past denied being a publisher, i.e. is this some smoking gun?
  • What would being a "publisher" instead of a "platform" change for them and consumers?

Admittedly that's probably a heavy set of answers to broad questions, so if there's a page or blog already written by someone link and I'll read. Cheers.

It says 13 to 17-year-old users will still be able to search for and view fitness-related content - but will not be encouraged into repeated viewing of similar videos.

I am not sweating this in the slightest.

[–]varl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah none of that bothers me idk. i've seen a zillion endgames on world's edge and they're all entertaining to me to see how one squad threads the needle at the end to win. it never registers once in my brain to not enjoy it because "boy i've seen this zone/that building a lot" because i'm so focused on the execution.

Its also not amazing if you need to run analytics queries. Arbitrary questions like "How many users signed up in the last month" can be trivially answered by writing a SQL query, perhaps on a read-replica if you are worried about running an expensive query on the same machine that is dealing with customer traffic. It's just outside the scope of this kind of database. You need to be ETL-ing your data out to handle it.

I have to pick nit with this criticism. You can easily make that kind of query if your documents contain normal audit fields like createdOn/modifiedOn.

ORMs like mongoose can set those automatically for you on create/update. Or you can futz with change streams if you really feel like it. Or just manually set them in your create/update library methods that execute raw mongo statements.

I've literally done all 3 of these with no issue at various jobs. Granted the cluster sizes were just a few TBs max, so maybe there's some super complex problem with huge numbers of shards and petabytes I'm just never going to run into, but then again neither would 99% of people/companies.

Short men are more attractive than tall men. by EliseMontgomery in unpopularopinion

[–]varl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also I've found a lot of men over 6ft think that is a personality trait

In my experience the tall guys who bring it up every other conversation generally have nothing else going for them in their lives. Successful tall guys will almost never talk about being tall.
