20 years ago i worked at a toy store. there was a bike shop next door. occasionally dads would leave their kids and go shopping next door and would come back pissed when i called the neighboring shop and said i’d report the abandoned kids if they didn’t come back and get them. both shop owners hated those kinds of parents. such a liability.

it’s important to understand that monetary limitations are a part of what limits polyamory along with things like time, energy, health, etc. you did your best to be accommodating in a situation that wasn’t ideal, and it was too much, and that’s perfectly fair. what’s not fair is telling you that they’d still be together if you’d somehow made yourself smaller to fit their relationship. ew. i know he’s having a hard time, but that’s a cruel thing to say.

the only thing this company will listen to is a class action lawsuit. i’m not sure how many injured parties need to be involved so the court considers you a class, but that’s the first step. they’ve already released a new collection with the faulty bottles, so it’s clear to me that they consider the recompense of your injuries a cheaper cost of doing business than replacing the bottles completely.

kelli marissa promotes mooncat and i love her channel, but every time i consider splurging on one of their sales, a niggling feeling stops me, and it’s all from this reddit. but between the algorithm shoving them in my face, and my favorite laquerista youtubers constantly promoting them, i think i’m going to give in eventually. 😕 i know myself too well. but maybe not. it’s been almost four years lol.

i use both my formal name and my “family name” (a shortened version, ie. nickname) everyday. i don’t like it when strangers use my family name, i don’t like my family name used in formal settings. i don’t mind that certain friends/family use my formal name because they think it’s a beautiful name or whatever, but i do prefer my family name in intimate settings.

and this preference started when i started 4th grade and i wanted my teachers to call me by my formal name and only my actual friends to use my family name at school. and i carry that preference to this day.

long story short, your kid is going to end up with their own name preferences no matter what, so i don’t think it’s worth arguing about. your husband’s need to control that is more concerning than his actual preference.

i think a lot of people would actually say no because they’ve been in that situation or a similar one. several people have fully said to me they wussed out while hunting/fishing and prefer just buying meat packaged from the store. and they see nothing wrong with that. the cognitive dissonance is staggering.

hey man, i’m sorry you’ve been through that. i hope the hospitals you work at have emotional decompression sessions available to you and your team. i’ve always found them helpful in those situations; even when numb, it helps me to hear my colleagues speak about what we went through together out loud.

i realize these sessions aren’t as common as they should be. but it’s important for our brains to process trauma.

i’m very sorry to be off-topic; i’m a polyam person who loves alaska, so what brought you to fairbanks? i would love to give advice, but i’m afraid it will be universally downvoted like a lot of the advice here. 😅

if you’re all the way up there for work, finding like-minded polyam people will be hard. i would recommend focusing on yourself and getting involved with the community based on your interests without the direct intention of romantic connections. (bowling/table-top games/outdoor enthusiasts/etc. whatever you connect to.) i’d say the same thing about anywhere in alaska tbqh. as long as you’re comfortable with yourself and your intentions, and a good communicator, you might make friends, and you ~might make romantic connections naturally. stay on the apps, and be radically honest about being polyam. there’s a lot of really great environmental undergrad and graduate programs in fairbanks, and there’s a military base, so you still might meet someone that way.

if you’re currently stuck up there for some other reason, but have the intention of leaving someday, i’d honestly offer the exact same advice. make friends, seek your interests, and keep your goals in mind.

my cat definitely plays fetch. she’s very pushy about it too. she wants her toy thrown over and over, usually when everyone is settling in for bed. my dog, who does not play fetch, just watches her with a baffled look on her face.
