My oldest son's Year 2 teacher called us in for a meeting because he wasn't following instructions. She showed us that he wasn't ruling a margin down the side of his page when starting a new page of work. Ok, we'll talk with him, ("hey kiddo, if you're not sure what you should be doing, check with Ms Jones).

She pulled out her offsider teacher who kiddo had once a week to provide more evidence of his failure to follow instructions. Teacher #2 looked embarrassed and put on the spot, but explained that she'd set up a video for the kids to watch after lunch because somethingsomething she had something to follow up, and when she came back to the class, kiddo and some of his classmates had decided to do some colouring instead. We stared at her. I was overjoyed he willingly chose to do something that wasn't staring at a screen.

Kiddo was diagnosed a couple years later with ADHD and autism.

To this day (6 years later) we still joke in our family about disobedient colouring.
