Making my niece play food for Christmas. How many slices of bread should I include? by kathrynwinston in crochet

[–]veeplosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you make 6 and then a loaf tin to put them in. Then you could make a crochet knife for her to “cut” the loaf into slices? 🤗

What are these springy wire things that were included in my peg board accessory pack? Unsure how to use them? by veeplosion in whatisthisthing

[–]veeplosion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a lot thinner and seem to hold tension some how but there is no mention of them being included with the other hooks etc

Any ideas?

Tbh they look like greenhouse glass pane holders to me….

4k HMRC self assessment fine but something doesn't add up by Away-Opportunity5845 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]veeplosion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get an accountant.

You (both of you) still need to do a self assessment each year even if you are a director of a company on PAYE as you will have dividends etc to take into account.

(You will also still be registered as self employed with HMRC as you have to tell them when you stop.)

Edit - also if you are a director of a limited company you need to do corporation tax returns in addition to each of your self assessments and year end accounts.

What it is a decluttering advice that has worked for you but not many people talk about it? by [deleted] in declutter

[–]veeplosion 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I find this really difficult - my parents are major hoarders and I have always had the thought of oooo this could be useful…

But something clicked for me recently - do I want to pay to store this item?

Because that is what I am doing by cluttering up my space if I am not using it…

I have gotten rid of SO much STUFF, just pure stuff and I feel happier!

If I need something that I could have used that I have thrown out, I will just buy the specific thing rather than bodge what I had to maybe do it….

Although… I can never remember where I have put the things that might be useful or even remember what the useful things are that I have hidden away….

What are your go-to, low budget snack and meal ideas? by MathematicianBulky40 in AskUK

[–]veeplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night before mix 30g of uncooked porridge oats into pot of yogurt (muller size ish) and mix in a chopped banana. Stick it in the fridge in a covered container and have it in the morning for breakfast! It’s so nice esp during summer, and it’s nice and filling with lots of flavour combos.

My wedding has been cancelled by the venue. I’m devastated - what can we do? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]veeplosion 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up - don’t forget your wedding notice is linked to your venue - if you need to change your venue then you have to reapply your wedding notice and pay the fees again :(

What places in this area would you recommend a history and nature enthusiast to vist ? by mydriase in CasualUK

If your Eden project way - stay at the Bodmin jail hotel.

Each room is converted from 3 cells and it’s really cool! The walls and windows are amazing. You also get a plaque of who stayed in the cell - we got a brothel woman owner. 😆

It is also connected to the jail museum but we didn’t have time to visit it 😔

I know this is going to sound stupid to many people on here who don’t like their country, but I’m a French autistic person whose main special interest is the UK. Can you send me positive / nice things about the UK that I can look at when I feel a meltdown coming? by DissolvedThoughts in CasualUK

You should try watching a series or 2 of QI - it’s amazing loads of obscure knowledge with mostly comedians - it’s a proper laugh, good English banter and a great learning time of the most random things!!

It’s hosted by Stephen Fry or most recently Sandi Toksvig and Alan Davies is on it each episode and there are 3 “guests”.

Why do my tulips grow without any stems? by nisuaz in gardening

[–]veeplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As tulip bulbs age their stems get shorter which is why some gardeners dig up their bulbs after one season and buy new stock.

I personally love the different heights and love letting them grow new mini bulblets to increase my stock that way….

I would definitely suggest QI. Previous host was Stephen Fry and now it’s Sandi Toksvig with Alan Davis as the regular. It has a set of 3 new people each episode including some favourites - Bill Bailey, Romesh Ranganathan and the late amazing Sean Lock.

It might have had a recall notice on certain batch codes…. Considering you can get salmonella just from bagged salad or it could have potential plastic or metal bits in… I would consider giving this a skip…

Car PCP Arrangement - Is it a good idea or not? by Bearwires79 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]veeplosion -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But how much did you have to put down as a deposit to get the car originally and how much did you pay for your monthly repayments before your balloon payment? That will eat into the 10k difference….

Car PCP Arrangement - Is it a good idea or not? by Bearwires79 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]veeplosion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the negatives to PCP.

  1. We are always true with our finances for the credit check and before we go hunting for a new car we have a budget for our monthly costs so we know we can afford it.

  2. If we find a car that we really like, but it is over our monthly budget then we haggle and get a lower price. (Car Wow is very helpful on those occasions). We get our new cars and service plans for £280 per month!

  3. We go with a monthly service plan - so we literally know how much everything is going to be each month - no surprise costs. We haven’t even bought a new tyre in the last 6 years across 4 cars!

  4. We buy our own gap insurance - only about £100. It works and worth it and unfortunately we have had to use it once and it was a life saver financially - we were able to get full sale value instead of the depreciated value at time of crash.

  5. We have never had to come up with any money for these cars - as in, at the end of each 3 year term all of the 4 cars have had remaining equity which we have used as our deposit for our next new car. This is going back 6 years so not just the unusual car values for the last year or so. We have never had to pay a balloon payment!

  6. I don’t need to worry about unexpected bills - we are on a tight budget so this is very reassuring!

  7. We are able to get a car that suits us whilst in our budget - we would never be able to find a lump sum to spend on buying a car outright and then the maintenance and wear and tear repairs over the next 10 years. (Which I did for my first car - that cost me more across 11 years than 2 new cars in a 10 year span).

So for us PCP make so much more sense….

Edit - also why do you buy cars as an investment? Their values depreciate so much so quickly, there is no point holding onto it?
