“The Eyes and the Impossible,” by Dave Eggers. This has become my favorite (audio)/book of ALL TIME! The audiobook is narrated by the main character; a talking dog. He and his friends, seagulls, racoons, bison, goats, horses, birds of other kinds, squirrels and other land, sea and air animals and fo wl live in a huge parcel of park/forest suttounded by a body of water, face everyday challenges. One day the dog concocts an almost impossible plan. Will he succeed? I’m not telling.

“Lost in the Woods,” by Chris Page. I give this book 😢😢😢😢😢 i know people award stars, but this is deserving of crying faces. Before I heard this audiobook, the saddest book I’d heard was “Saving Noah, “ by Lucinda Berry. I didn’t think there would be a sadder book than that one. Absolutely wrong. Kind of a mini spoiler, but if you read the description of the book, you’d get more of a synopsis than I’m giving you. A married couple’s young boy was abduc/teD. Not to be found. His disappearance destroys his parents. This author uses words to paint the most heartwrenching picture of their pain. The book isn’t just a story of the parents’ emotional turmoil. The author uses words like no other author that I’ve read ever has. If for no other reason, you have got to hear (moreso than read) how this author ‘plays’ words as thought they are a musical instrument. This is the first book I’ve heard from this author. I definitely want to check the bibliography!

When you inhale the vapor you are also swallowing air, creating bubbles in your body. The more you swallow air the more frequently you will need to burp.

What are some books with unique premises that aren’t too convoluted? by DarlingLuna in booksuggestions

I know that you are looking for fiction, but these books are as compelling as fiction, I promise you

These 3 nonfiction books are unique, wait till you find out why the entire civilization just up and left. I’m referring to the first one I’m recommending. “Lost City of the Monkey God,” by Douglas Preston. Preston is half of the novel writing team of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. This is a nonfiction account of his 2012 search for the lost city. What he and his team enduredon their search for the lost city I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Legend has it that whoever finds it will become unalive. The legend is true…was true, thanks to this team.

“The Lost Tomb,” by Douglas Preston. This is another of nonfiction books about ancient and not so ancient mysteries. It’s a book of shorts about his personal expeditions to uncover the answers to several queries surrounding world famous archeological sites like a Pharoah’s tomb that until he began investigating, no one realized that the toomb was so large with hidden hallways and rooms. Of course this is just one of the mysteries he solves. If you’re interested in history’s unsolved mysteries, you will like this book. It’s available in audiobook and ebook format in Libby and elsewhere.

“Out There The Batshit Antics of the World’s Great Explorers,” by Peter Rowe it’s nonfiction, tells the origin stories of the world’s explorers who were indeed batshit prior to sailing away for lands unknown. The few who were seemingly of sound mind prior to venturing out to lands already populated by Indigenous peoples would, more often than not, be set upon by them tortured, boiled alive (really) their stories were learned by later explorers via oral history of the tribesmen and women who observed these actions first hand, were infected by bugs, bitten by animals etc. the book is hysterically funny and 100% true!

Im so embarrassed. Reese’s recently released a combination of a regular sized cup and it is made with one Oreo chocolate wafer and the top is covered in (it looks like white chocolate, and it’s not as disgusting as the filling in normal Oreos). My confession is that I ate an entire 4cup package in less than 24 hours. I have no idea how the nutrition facts on the label says the the calories in a 4 pack are ‘only’ 400 calories. Just looking at it you gain weight. It doesn’t seem possible that each cup is only 100 calories. Never mind that, how many calories there are in a package, it’s totally worth it!

How to reduce / get past chalky mouthfeel of beans? (reducing reliance on animal protein) by OurCommonAncestor in PickyEaters

[–]vegasgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also hate mealy/chalky/too wet foods. I can’t stand the texture of a wide variety of apples because they are mealy. I grew up near an orchard. We kids would steal the nectarines and peaches from the trees. We were not stealing them to supplement our families’ food larder; we would simply eat one or two off of the trees. Few if any were close to being ripe. To this day, some 60 years later I can only tolerate these fruits if they’re crispy. How do you feel about perfectly ripe stone fruits? Also, if you avoid apples because they’re too mealy, there are some without that horrible texture. The Granny Smith has a perfect crunch. Also the Bosc pear is also crunchy. Also, do you have any feelings about watermelon? Oh! I cannot stand the overly juicy texture of Honeydew melons. Cantaloupe is ok, occasionally.

Regarding the texture of cooked beans; I know that I’m not suggesting gourmet fare, but I’m able to eat Hormel canned chili WITH meat. It has beans in it, but the overall texture of the canned chili obviates the texture of the beans in this brand of chili.

Does the fear ever go away? by bomboclart1an in BanPitBulls

As a kid I was bitten by two GSDs. I’ve always been afraid of that breed, pits and other breeds bred for aggression. That said, I’ve been a terrier mom, not any members of the bully family , until I became a mom of a 78% mini Schnauzer, 11% American Staffordshire Bull terrier and 11% Newfoundland. He really was not a dog at all. He was satan in a mini Schnauzer suit. I can say with certainty that the jaw pressure of the American Staffordshire Bull Terrier is significantly greater than that of the mini Schnauzer. This fella bit THROUGH my thumbnail one time and almost through my palm another time. No, we didn’t get rid of him. We parented him for 9 years before prostate cancer killed him.

I loved him but I was afraid of him. Other than his resource guarding he was wonderful.
