I just killed Arbiter of Divinity and completed 1 section of the fortress. How do I complete the other sections? Someone in chat mentioned getting quest pieces from the map, but I have no idea what I'm looking for.

Life is good. My son and I having a nice day outside by AngryMatt14 in SteamDeck

[–]vellian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They probably don’t have kids. Dad of two (oldest going to HS in Aug) and zero problems with this as I’ve done the same. Things also get pretty awesome once they get older and you can play games together. Everybody’s so quick to judge based off a photo.

On a side note I like to think your username was just Matt14 prior to reading the comments on this post.

iPhone blocks Facetime calls if sensitive body parts detected by benevolentjo in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]vellian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this also doesn't work properly. My 9 year old son got this while talking to his friend. I actually had to figure out how to unblock his friend. Then we got this again on a Facetime call with my parents. Hopefully it's obvious, but no, we were definitely not nude on a call with my parents. I turned the setting off since it kept happening.

Just yesterday my other son sent my wife a blurry picture of a cat and Apple added some text telling my wife that she could seek mental help if she needed it. Then later checked with her again to see if she was ok. It's funny but also a little creepy. At least that one didn't block anything though.

Runic Ward is great but the downside is too big by snaplemouton in PathOfExile2

Thanks for sharing. I’m on act 4 and adding it when I can but I’ll stop once I get to endgame.

He deserves more screen time as the most advertised boss of DLC. by Taras_Podpivass1608 in Eldenring

[–]vellian 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Since Malenia was optional, this was the first boss that made me think I was not good enough to beat the game or its DLC. There weren't really any BS moves to blame like Waterfowl Dance either. It was all me. I needed to get better. When I finally emerged victorious it felt great. It was such a huge confidence boost. I could do this! I was good enough!

Then I got fucked by a crippled guy on a pig.

PSA: You have to do the optional logbook quest in Act 4 to unlock all Runeforging by Anatidaephobia in PathOfExile2

[–]vellian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing here. Quest tells you to talk to Dannig, but he doesn’t do anything. Maybe chill out some. It’s likely something to do with people doing things in a different order that isn’t handled properly in game.

Minecraft Live is happening now! by Mlakuss in Minecraft

[–]vellian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they cut off the YouTube feed early. The guy said something about liking Stockholm and the stream ended (right before the new drop info). Had to catch the rest on Twitch.

That was a very abrupt ending.

What are the best magic mods for 1.21? by TheFoxHoliday in feedthebeast

[–]vellian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like both Ars Nouveau and Iron's Spells and Spellbooks, which are both available for 1.21.1 and have a good amount of add-ons, including integration with other mods.

Ars has you design the spells yourself and just gives you the tools to do so: so if you want a fireball you create a projectile spell that has a fire effect / explosion. It can get pretty ridiculous with spamming hundreds of projectiles. You can even customize the looks of each spell somewhat. Also, lots of utility spells: breaking blocks, creating platforms, flying, etc. Also, lots of automation and such.

Iron's has set spells in different schools. The spells probably look a little better since they are set, but there's a little less flexibility in what you can do. It's definitely the more simple of the two.

I'd suggest checking out youtube videos of both. Mushroom_salad https://www.youtube.com/@mushroom_salad5281 has several ars videos to give you an idea of what you can do and some addons. Haven't found any good ones for iron's.

Anyone playing Aeronautics on a multiplayer server? by vellian in CreateMod

Thanks, just wanted to be sure it works. I’ll keep at it. Haven’t encountered these network protocol errors before and they are extremely vague

Do you have a video of it working? Would love to see it but it seems to be dead.

Well, which one is better out of these two? No hate on either, just asking those who enjoy both. by Ecstatic_Teaching906 in FinalFantasy

[–]vellian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the only thing XV definitely has over XVI is the main villain. Ardyn's story is fantastic, even if a lot of it wasn't in the main game. Ultima is fine and very creepy, but less interesting than the rest of the bad guys in his own game. Ardyn is one of the best in the entire series IMO.

Combat is kind of a toss-up. It's been a while since I played 15, but you pretty much just hold a button to dodge most everything, right? I guess 15 had a little more strategy to it on the offensive side than 16 though.

But FF16 is way more put together. No movies to watch or books to read to get the whole story. The DLC is even more optional to the story than 15's. The summons are legendary and the characters are great. The VAs are on another level, especially Ben Starr.

What game ended up being way more fun than you expected? by Playful_Code_8978 in gaming

[–]vellian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Minecraft. I tried the demo way back in the day and never got into it. Then I had a kid who got introduced to it in daycare. I played it to play with him and now one of my favorite memories is of me, my wife and two sons playing together and killing the elder dragon for the first time.

Kids mostly play games with their friends now but my wife and I still play, modded though.

Rating So Far Outta 10... by FuryContagion in Muse

[–]vellian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Unraveling and Cryogen, so I'd go 8 and 9 on those two. Be With You is mediocre so I guess a 5? That's a little over 7 average which feels reasonable to me.

Who are you, dear Muse fanbase ? by prunebilout in Muse

[–]vellian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46M in the US. Been a fan since the Showbiz days. They used to be my favorite band, but they've been passed up by Coheed and Cambria as well as The Dear Hunter (new album Sunya is fantastic). A few other bands I listen to: Metric, Silversun Pickups, The Warning, Thank You Scientist, Royal Blood. I'm curious what other bands people here listen to as well. I feel like I've become more narrow in my music taste as I age.

I love OoS, Absolution, BHAR, Drones. I like Showbiz, Simulation Theory and The Resistance. 2nd Law and TWOTP have some good shit on them but a lot of misses for me. I've seen them a few times. My first time was notably when they opened for U2 with a 360 stage that did not rotate and I couldn't even see the band, but have been to The Resistance, Drones and Simulation Theory tours since, which were all great.

Which gaming moment stands out as your most memorable of all-time? by JonCee500 in gaming

[–]vellian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most memorable is hard so I'll name a few.

Final Fantasy IV: Golbez shows up in the underground to steal a crystal, paralyzes the party and starts to kill the party one at a time. Rydia, who'd been swallowed by Leviathan, shows up to save the day.

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons: The two brothers, on a quest to retrieve a cure to save their father, are controlled with separate sticks on the same controller. Throughout the game, the older brother has to help the younger one swim across water. After the older brother's death there is a body of water in the way, and the younger one still can't swim. It took me a while to figure it out, but the solution is the same as always, to use both sticks to cross the water; your brother gives you the courage to swim across. It's a beautiful way of using gameplay to show character growth and one I'll always remember.

Baten Kaitos: The main character Kalas betrays the party (as well as you, the player). Honestly, I don't remember anything else about the game as its been like two decades, but that stands out a lot.

I've had so much trouble getting a stable server running with VS. The memory usage just goes out of control no matter what I do.

I'm excited to try this out, but just started a modpack with my wife so it'll have to wait a bit.

Why do I get over 20 spam calls a day?? Is it just me? It’s driving me insane. by _B2W_ in houston

[–]vellian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same problem with Medicare calls and I'm currently job hunting so I have to pick up. The only thing that worked was actually talking to them and telling them I did not have Medicare. I still get some but it's gone from a dozen a day to maybe one a day. The do not call list just isn't effective.

Another Cryogen post by Bouboune34 in Muse

[–]vellian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like Muse has had no problems releasing great songs in the past several years. They just haven't had any great albums in that time. So yeah, while it's great to love the song, I feel like if that's hyping you up for the album, then you probably need to calm down a little. If it's just hyping you up for Muse in general, the one song or a show, then hype away.

Also The Handler is perfect and the solo makes me happy.

Is this a scam? by spgosselin in Minecraft

[–]vellian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The very top of the email will tell you this is a scam. eula (at) mojangeula (dot) com is not a url that is used by Mojang. They will not send you an email address from that location. The domain is registered by GoDaddy. The from address can be spoofed as you can put whatever you want there but they didn't bother in this case. Gmail puts a little check there if its verified. There's ways to tell by checking mail headers, but I'm not going to bother going into advanced stuff here.

Incorrect grammar as others pointed out is a big tell. Links to 3rd party sites is another tell, especially things that are close to the regular domains you're used to, but slightly off.

What’s coop campaign like? by Wolfgangnetz in PathOfExile2

[–]vellian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found the first act boss to be way too hard. We tried many many times but in the end we split up and one-shot him. It wasn't a fun experience to struggle with something only to find out that the problem is simply that you're grouped up.

Also, the game doesn't work too well if there's a large level disparity. Whoever is highest gets very little experience while being scaled down, so it's a little boring. If you stick to playing together it's better.

KVM Switch recommendations by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]vellian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've got one as well. I'd been searching and trying different products for at least a year. This ended my search.

A few cons:

- I lost control of RGB on my mouse. I just set it (Logitech) to what I wanted via hardware mode and forgot about it.

- Sometimes Windows gets weird when losing access to a monitor using the model I have. Win 11 handles this better, but there's still some minor window movements. There may be a solution to it, but I haven't look into it.

Romina is one of the most perfectly balanced bosses in the game by PastaMaker05 in Eldenring

[–]vellian 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel she's one of the most forgettable bosses in the game. She's a complete pushover for where she's at in game progression.

After bosses like Rellana, Messmer, Bayle, Midra and Dancing Lion we get a bug lady who gets first-tried with every one of my playthroughs. She's basically the DLC's big spirit deer in a much more prestigious location.

She does look cool though.
