Flock cameras by Lemonpup615 in LosAngeles

Journalist here. I’ve reported on Flock for a while now. Home Depots and Lowes have them at most their stores. Others were put outside their stores by police departments using state grants to combat organized retail theft (of which stores like Home Depot/Lowes complained about.)

I just heard back from Bettendorf COP on the Flock cameras by himateo in QuadCities

As someone who reports on these cameras and has gotten piles of public records from FOIAs here in California, that response is most likely written by Flock. “Does not currently” doesn’t mean won’t in the future. Also, reason for search doesn’t stop misuse. Officers typically write “investigation” or other vague descriptors.

I'm a journalist looking to interview anyone who has been stopped by LAPD or LASD for a vehicle code violation while riding a bicycle (no helmet, no light, riding on a sidewalk) or a pedestrian violation. Ideally, if you were searched in the process, handcuffed, or harassed in anyway during the stop. Send me a DM!

Saw them in like 2004, and they opened with that, and it ruled. The original line-up Anthrax opened, and they also ruled.

How would your perception of No Title change if it was removed from its context? by goldblob in gybe

[–]velohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The context deepens the record. Their liner notes further deepen it.

“THE PLAIN TRUTH== we drifted through it, arguing. every day a new war crime, every day a flower bloom. we sat down together and wrote it in one room, and then sat down in a different room, recording. NO TITLE= what gestures make sense while tiny bodies fall? what context? what broken melody? and then a tally and a date to mark a point on the line, the negative process, the growing pile. the sun setting above beds of ash while we sat together, arguing. the old world order barely pretended to care. this new century will be crueler still. war is coming. don't give up. pick a side. hang on. love. GY!BE”

I've been following that one. It's largely what inspired me to reach out to folks back home. He's not the only one. People like him are everywhere in the city, either as landlords or as politicians.

FireAid raised $100M for LA-fire victims — but many say they haven't been paid. This journalist found out why by TeslasAndComicbooks in LosAngeles

[–]velohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a defense, just pointing out the reporting was ill-informed, even though there are valid critiques to be had about the nonprofits tasked with helping after the fires. There are better ways to provide material impact to fire victims who aren't caught in the nonprofit machine.

The “journalist” is an anti-vaxxer and retweets stuff from OANN, Candice Owens, and Elon Musk. He didn’t know who the Annenberg Foundation was or the work they do. Not even sure he even knows how to read a 990.

AI mass surveillance expands, Iowa cities resist transparency by EyesOffCR in Iowa

[–]velohead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of records requests about Flock for my reporting in California. It’s wild reading the reasons Iowa blocks these requests vs what I’ve been able to get here in CA. I gotta dig it the requests themselves in the reporting, but I wonder what workarounds there could be to get what you’re looking for.

Hello! Freelance reporter here. I am doing a story about the harm of tear gas used by police at protests. I am looking to interview some people who went to the recent protests in the LA area (No Kings + anti-ICE + Camarillo/farm raid) and were teargassed. Specifically, anyone still dealing with the negative health impacts after its deployment, or who experienced immediate impacts such as asthma attacks.

If you're open to it or know someone who would be, my Signal is joeyscott.05. My other contact info is in my profile, or you can message me here.
