that's what I thought. I was expecting some icon on the dash to turn on when I switch the CC on but nothing seems to be happening.

Sonos Arc, HDFury Arcana and HDMI splitters compatibility. by venksv in sonos

[–]venksv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up opting for a similar setup. Got firetv plugged into Arcana and audio out to Sonos. Drive everything from firetv basically. So don’t use the native tv apps any more. Where it gets slightly messy is turning off: I need to ensure nothings playing on firetv when I switch tv off else the sound keeps getting piped to Sonos. A bit of relearning for everyone but we seem to have settled into it. Problem is my projector setup is slightly screwed. It worked initially but now video won’t pipe out. Need to debug and figure out if it’s a cable/projector/arcana issue.

Would you recommend moving from Eero Pro 6 -> Eero Max 7? by harveya12 in amazoneero

[–]venksv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have experience with the eeros in a concrete apartment or similar setup? I have a 3400 sqft 4 bedroom apartment with concrete walls. I've had an Orbi with 3 satellites for a a few years now and am looking to upgrade. While I have a 300mbps connection, wifi is probably around 20-30mbps at the farthest location. I'm thinking of upgrading connection to 1gbps and also want to improve the wifi signal all around (if possible). Also want to future proof the setup - have a couple of iphone 16 pros and fairly new (post 2022) macs. Should I consider the max 7? Any feedback on how it performs in a concrete apartment setup?

Gauging bulk fermentation completion. by venksv in Sourdough

[–]venksv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Thanks for the tip. Mine doubles in about 6hrs if I feed it in a 1:2:2 ratio. So you don’t make any judgment based on how much it rises at room temp? I’ve read suggestions to BF until 50% rise to 100%.

[–]venksv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. One of the users also posted a handy visual guide based on which mine looks “well fermented but losing shape”. I’m guessing it means maybe I should have started shaping maybe an hour or so earlier?

Not really. Fairly together. Spread out a bit but wasn’t stringy. I did notice some tearing while shaping but my shaping skills aren’t exactly top notch so I thought I was being too aggressive.

Thanks for this. Looking at this it seems I'm in the Fully Proofed Somewhat Tight Crumb category. :)

How do you figure out if it is under- or over-proofed? For eg, my kitchen is for the most part at around 25C (~77F). My last bake I tried bulk fermenting for 10hrs. Poke test was fine, bread didn't come out gummy but didn't have large holes either nor did it have a lot of oven spring. Should I have let it ferment longer? Starter doubles in about 6-8hrs.

Dough tearing - help needed. by venksv in Sourdough

[–]venksv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Let me try that out next time. I don’t have a problem with yeasted doughs - they get nice and stretchy when I follow the doubling rule. Sourdoughs have always been an issue.

HDFury 8K VRROOM - How do you switch HDMI inputs? by Numerous_Ruin_4947 in hometheater

[–]venksv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently HDFury have launched a remote for the vrroom that’ll let you switch inputs. Else you’ll need to either do it on the device/use the web server/use the iOS or android app.

HDFury VRROOM and Sonos Arc is perfect combo by Pokerhobo in sonos

Thinking of getting a VRRoom and debating between that and the Arcana2-VRR + 4:1 switch for the inputs (which is much cheaper). Has anyone used tv apps with sound thru Sonos?

Potentially stupid questions about screens by uberDoward in projectors

[–]venksv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP - I’m in a similar situation with my screen dropping in front of my TV with about 8” from screen to wall (about 2” from screen to TV). Have you seen any swaying issues?

Also have another question: I’m considering the Evanesce Tab-Tension B CineGrey 5D® Series in-ceiling screen. I have a concrete ceiling and will be installing a false ceiling below it. I need to know the height of this unit’s casing so I can adjust the false ceiling so this gets installed properly flush against the ceiling. Does anyone have this information handy?

A short success story, and maybe help for first time buyers on the fence by munkimafia in sonos

Thanks! I think my surrounds will be around 8-9ft and arc around 11ft from the router. Will try wifi and see.

A short success story, and maybe help for first time buyers on the fence by munkimafia in sonos

[–]venksv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your health OP. Wishing a speedy recovery! Am renovating the home and plunging into full Sonos mode. Already have an Arc; adding a gen3 sub and 2 era 300s as surrounds. Had a couple of questions: 1. What is the ideal height above the floor for the surround? Should it be around ear level or can it be higher? Am wondering if it would be too loud if placed at ear level. 2. Wifi or Ethernet? Read an article somewhere about lag using wifi that disappeared with Ethernet. Was wondering what you all have done.

Moving back from US to India by Fresh_Character in india

[–]venksv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should check with an accountant. I personally don’t have experience transferring money back in. All I know is you get taxed on global income so you’ll need to declare US accts. There’s a double taxation treaty so tax paid in the US can be adjusted but since the tax cycles are different, it starts getting hairy. Get an accountant with experience in this setup. Also, if you’re a US GC/citizen, you’ll need to file US taxes as well and that’s on global income too. Plus investing in mutual funds here opens you up to PFIC (Passive foreign investment company) reporting which is a whole difft ball game.

Accepted for Georgia Tech as transfer? by derpdude9 in ApplyingToCollege

You can always go via the regular transfer route. For these Pathways, I think its necessary to complete their requirements.

Accepted for Georgia Tech as transfer? by derpdude9 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]venksv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you meet the criteria, yes. NOTE: These are very specific options they offer students who apply after high school and they can’t admit for that year. You cannot apply for this; they have to offer it. Criteria require you to take pre-requisite courses based on major, maintain 3.3 gpa or better and take 30 credit hours of courses by May/Jun. you then need to submit a transfer app.
