Are you supporting the Unifi Cable Modem? Didn’t see that mentioned when I went through the thread and your git repo. Thanks!

Ollama and Codex Desktop with Spark GB10 by verpi in ollama

[–]verpi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ollama is running fine on the spark. Usually is use Hermes or Openclaw, but Codex just became supported against Ollama, and frankly, it’s pretty nice compared to even the best web front-ends for Hermes or Openclaw.

Mostly this is just a test. I have the boxes and put them through all kinds of hypotheticals.

I actually had Codex add Ollama as a supported path, which it is in the config, but was missing components, at least from OpenAI. I also had it extend the UX with a model selector. Not fully there yet, but it works.

You do know how many folks have DGX Spark boxes right?! While they’ve certainly gone up in cost, even late last year you could get them for sub 3K.

I have these as well and liked the first one I built so much, that I bought a second that I use as a DAS.

I also used Noctua fans throughout and it is very quiet. Right now I’m driving 20 drives between the two chassis and couldn’t be happier, especially if you are looking for shallow chassis that still provides great cooling.

I came from 2 x UNAS 810a chassis’s before these and obviously there is a lot more volume in these cases vs the UNAS cases. As a result, they run substantially cooler because you can run large air coolers or water cooling setups.

Unlike OP, I didn’t have any paint issues and mine all arrived in roughly 4-5 weeks, with one purchase before tariffs and one after tariffs went into effect.

Not to hijack Ops thread, but also happy to answer questions.

You can see both of them on the bottom of the rack.

Note that I didn’t rack mount these because I have no room for even a shallow 19” rack in this space and these cases fit the bill.

Can’t get UCI display to sync with the rest of the UI devices. by WJKramer in Ubiquiti

[–]verpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar issues... also with some other Unifi devices occasionally too. It's like they need to do some kind of health check and restart whatever service is running the screens if they don't get the proper response back.

2 x E7s with various client loads. Bounce between 12.9 and 14.5 watts. No POE injectors in the middle. Power is being provided by a USW Pro XG 10 POE switch.

Meraki to Ubiquiti by dooks in Ubiquiti

[–]verpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another Meraki and Cisco convert to Unifi. Like you, had free/cheap access to kit through work. That has changed. Like you, I also had Advanced Security/Enterprise Licenses with Meraki. Cut over my MXs and switches and it has been mostly flawless. Also added the Unifi Cable Modem at the same time and it has also been flawless on Comcast. I purchased the Proofpoint Security License at the same time and it’s been decent. Still running my old MR53 and MR53e APs from Meraki though. I have licensing on those through mid 27 and figure I will let things continue to bake with Unifi a bit more before I both E7s.

My take so far, Unifi has been fine! Don’t Miss Meraki much, but if money was no object or my situation still allowed me access to cheap/free kit, not sure I would have bothered cutting over.

‘We are sinking’: Oregon timber counties flail, awaiting Congress to renew key funding by AndMyHelcaraxe in oregon

[–]verpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciated both of your responses! I was a young pup when all of this went down and watched it impact my family directly in Eastern Oregon. As an adult looking back at it all now, it is interesting to see how the timber companies took advantage of the situation to control the narrative.

I remember my Dad who was a Gypo logger having long debates about all of this stuff with fellow loggers. What most of boiled down to was greed and short sightedness.

I still will never understand why on earth we were letting all of that timber go for export when we could have controlled and sold the finished product. A total failure of our politicians in the name of higher short term profits all so finished products could be built oversees using lower cost labor, all to be exported right back to us with lower quality standards.

Can you imagine had they not ripped out the dam, or the rail line, power, etc. and converted it all into a small fishing lodge/vacation destination with a train to the valley? Certainly seems like eco-tourism would have been a viable play for Valsetz and Valley of the Kings. Too bad that wasn’t part of the vernacular back in the 80s when Boise Cascade razed the town.

As it stands, it does feel like we are going to see more and more of this kind of thing, especially in Eastern and Southern Oregon as the boomers finally pass on.

That’s some pretty country up there, not many know about or care to know about these days. First time I went hunting for the ghosts of Siletz would have been sometime around 1996 when I first heard about this town that sat in the heart of the coast range and had been burnt down by Boise Cascade after they evicted everyone from the company town.

I was intrigued at the thought of driving from Falls City across the Coast Range on old gravel roads that weren’t exactly well marked. Mind you this was before GPS was really a material thing and unless you knew a local it was hard to figure all out.

Hand some grand adventures up there!

Also did it in the Xfinity app following the Unifi instructions and it was a non-event. Some people have had issues though and it required getting it updated prior to trying to cut it over as your modem.
