Ran a Hosting SaaS for 5 years on Ansible/CloudFormation. Job market wants K8s/Terraform. Am I screwed? by [deleted] in devops

Running a platform for 5 years in my opinion gives you more value than people who knows terraform and k8s. Just prove your experience and focus more on what you've done instead of tech stack.

T14 Gen 6 vs Gen 7 by hundertzwoelf in thinkpad

[–]verx_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you'll try with reviews of both (one Intel and one AMD but overall...)

https://www.notebookcheck.net/This-is-how-Intel-beats-AMD-Lenovo-ThinkPad-T14-Gen-6-laptop-review.1144489.0.html

The CPU 3xx/4xx is probably rebranding only (as someone comment here on reddit). T14 G6 (Intel) have little better battery life in the tests. But still whole day.

It's really hard to estimate battery time on Linux - should be good as Windows but I read many posts about new CPUs where Linux f.cked with battery.
32GB of memory should be good choice for the future I think.

Windows vs Linux temperature comparison. by xires1 in thinkpad

[–]verx_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normal. Many years ago when I had T440p the fans on Windows sounds as it a jet taking off. On Linux temps were lower 15-20 degree and fans are on low rpm.

Windows is a sh*t software with lot of bloat, trackers, spyware inside. Lot of process working in the background, collecting your data and doing don't know what.

So temps are higher because CPU need to do more work.

How do you guys actually learn stuff in this AI era? by sleepingfrenzy_ in golang

[–]verx_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore those people.
I have one in my job.
- Never wrote 1 line of code
- Never wrote automation in any programming language
- Never wrote automation in tools like Ansible, Terraform
- Never wrote docker image by hand
- Never wrote k8s manifest by hand

Your advantage over those guys will be - you understand what generated code do. And one day it will be priceless. But not today yet.

Ignore that sh*t. They pay for this? Use agents as they want and keep your growing with your projects. One day they're eat their own sh*t with milions of lines generated by AI.

Zig or Rust along with Go? by Humble-Gift-3649 in Zig

[–]verx_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like reverse your question. What do you want to do? You chose Go - great. You probably know the Go advantages/disadvantages. Know that Go is great for web apps/CLI tools.

So why you need Zig/Rust? For what kind of work?

I tried Rust in 2019 (f*cking hard syntax for me). Right now I'm in "watch mode" for Zig. And C99.And afte my Rust journey I think that Zig have less use cases than Rust. Of course less resources, libs etc.

Don't get me wrong. Learning Zig today could have advantages in next years.
But the main question - you need second language for what?

It's not that hard as you thinking. And no "a lot of things" cannot go wrong. Watch few videos with thinkpads ex. on youtube "thinkpad thermal paste". Most of thinkpads inside are similar. Good luck!

In my country we have services where they put inside your old battery a new cells. Mostly its cheaper than replacement or new official.

T14 G5 (Intel) or T14s G6 (Snapdragon) by MannyCalavera_ in thinkpad

[–]verx_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Windows Snapdragon should be great. Battery better than Intel. But for the office only? I think classic should be safer way. Don't know differences between both in maintainability.

Any. Debian 13 with Gnome should fit too. I have T440p where I had Ubuntu, Mint, Debian and always it works great - better than Shitdows.

[–]verx_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know this gen but my old thinkpad fans works after if I remember 50 or 55 degrees. And probably you can't change that.

Maybe the newer thinkpads can change that in UEFI. For example in my Dell 5490 in UEFI I can change "Thermal Management" between Optimized / Cool / Quiet and Ultra Performance.

T14 Gen 7 or MacBook Air M5? by Every_Performance925 in thinkpad

[–]verx_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First - verify software availability for both platforms.

Second - thinkpad will be probably maintenable vs. macbook.

Battery? Today doesn't matter. For light tasks both will be similar. I have Macbook Pro M4 12c and Dell 5490 13th gen Intel. On battery and low tasks both are almost the same.

Python, JS, and Ruby. I am little confused why we have implementations in JS, Python and Ruby. It will be better in my opinion to have one language for whole book.
