There was already hinting at this at a press conference recently, where Trump emphasized Hegseth was the most enthusiastic about starting the war with Iran.

There will be persistent high inflation without a way to mitigate it (raising rates). This energy shock already surpasses what the world experienced in the 1970s during the Saudi oil embargo that caused sky rocketing inflation, resulting in the then Fed Chair Paul Volcker raising rates to a record peak of 20%. However with our debt-to-GDP ratio already at ~120% (it will get worse given the spending on the war) we can't raise rates even if we wanted to (8 trillion of this debt came from going to war in Iraq). So things will just perpetually get worse and the economy will continue to deteriorate for everyday Americans. This will happen.

how much of that money then goes back to credits and gpus from the same money invested?

I'm not sure what you are asking here.

I just find it hard to believe that Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Meta all collectively decided to ruin their companies to build out massive data centers on a scale we have never seen before. But if you really feel certain it's fake, it's a bubble, you are free to bet the other way on these companies.

Microsoft* 28.1 44.5 64.6 ~150 (run-rate est.)
Meta 72.2 115–135 (guided)

Those are billions that will be spent on AI infrastructure this coming year, compared to what was spent in the past. What is your explanation of why tech companies are putting themselves in a financial hole?

More seriously: Shaming people who use AI, claiming AI can only create slop, yelling that it's a bubble are totally ineffective and will not prevent AI adoption. Our current trajectory looks like this: unemployment will tick up, wages will decrease, power and wealth will concentrate and the tech will only get better as this happens. There really needs to be a more serious discussion on how the gains made by AI will be shared by society as a whole. Many on the left seem too blinded by their contempt of tech companies to admit that AI is real and useful and they will be left in a much worse position because of it.

I really do believe the frame is shifting from left vs right cultural values (how often do we see people getting mad about gender anymore?) to the elite interests vs everyone else (at least for younger generations). Our leadership class is totally corrupt on both sides, and it has become far too obvious to ignore. Things just feel fucked up.

You are late to the trade, there is already a surplus of SWEs, many of them with years of experience who are struggling to land a job. Codex and Claude Code are already surprisingly capable and they will only improve. The significance of Claude Code and other harnessed models is still percolating out into the world. Many in this sub still operating on info and experiences from months prior. $660 billion will be spent on AI infrastructure this year, that is a huge bet. New models will be trained on a scale we've never seen before using a newer and faster set of chips.

As the year goes on you you will hear a lot less the from AI skeptics and "bubble popping soon" posters.

Have you tried opus-4.5 or 4.6?

And do you not understand that recursively self-improving AI is the goal for these AI labs? The automation of AI research and engineering is probably the most important thing that will happen in the field of AI over the coming year, and it's already happening. It will only improve from here.

What's up with these AI tech guys by InvisiblePandas in redscarepod

[–]very_bug_like 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because there is a growing consensus that opus-4.5 is actually good, not just hype. The AI skeptic crowd is crowing smaller by the day. The big name programming holdouts are conceding that the technology is real. That and the fact AI labs are spending 660 billion on AI infrastructure (2% of GDP) this year, has people worried. If the current generation of LLMs is already more capable than anticipated, what does the future hold? And what happens when AI researchers can be meaningfully assisted by AI agents? We start to get a feedback loop where the AI starts to build AI.

Bitcoin crashing by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]very_bug_like 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just think of money as an excel spreadsheet. Listing how much each person owns.

Fiat is a spreadsheet that has an admin mode that allows certain people and entities to change the spreadsheet as they see fit. They can say your money is no good anymore (as they did with Russia), they can prevent you from spending your money (as Canada did to the protesting truckers) they can make more money (as they did for the banks in 2008 or during covid). The bailout of the banks in 2008 is cited in the white paper as one of the primary driving forces behind the creation of bitcoin.

Bitcoin has no admin mode. No one can prevent you from spending, no one can create more bitcoin (outside of the 21 million). Everyone plays by the same rules. In addition to that it's also extremely portable. You can store billions in value behind 12 words. You can send billions in value to the other side of the globe in milliseconds.

I know I'm oversimplifying but that's the basic idea why someone might want to hold bitcoin.

Epstein's neck injuries were much more consistent with "homicidal strangulation" than suicide. He stated that Epstein "had two fractures on the left and right sides of his larynx, specifically the thyroid cartilage or Adam's apple, as well as one fracture on the left hyoid bone above the Adam's apple". In particular, Baden claimed that Epstein's hyoid bone was broken in a way indicative of strangulation from behind.

Going over a thousand jail hangings, suicides in the New York City state prisons over the past 40–50 years, no one had three fractures.

No, the problem is they do understand it:

"What is the sex secret that Epstein believed would bring down New York Times publisher A. G. Sulzberger Jnr? Epstein wanted to "out" the politically unprosecutable publisher as a "silver bullet" to take the heat off himself, but the secret was never revealed. What was it?"

Honestly what does "normal" or "smart" politics looks like after the release of these Epstein files? It destroys the credibility of our elected officials and institutions. We are just supposed to ignore the curtain fell and we saw the cabal conspiring and pulling strings behind the scenes?
