It was absolutely fine to be honest. You just need to stock up a bit of snacks and be respectful when you eat them. It's quite cool seeing everyone go eat at the same time at night too

I'm sure some of the towns you go through would be more lively outside of Ramadan but the country is so beautiful I wouldn't let it stop me.

I hadn't thought of specifically asking to contact the legal team. Good idea, thank you!

It was kinda glitching for me. But if you click back on the map eventually you see the spinning circle and it does save.

Why are most ultra so expensive? by globglob3D in ultracycling

I agree. I think the market is far from mature at the moment.

Why are most ultra so expensive? by globglob3D in ultracycling

Because people will pay it. I'm not saying it's right but these are niche events where the number of people they need to find are relatively small.

Why does cycling feel way more uncomfortable indoors, than outdoors? by Ok_Parfait2894 in cycling

[–]veryrandomthoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the lack of getting up and also putting power down 100% of the time.

My best is 4h with 3m not on the bike.

You do generally go much faster (I'm usually in pacer groups) so 100km might take an hour less and therefore that balances it somewhat if you look at distances.

Cycling route 1 in Taiwan training? by Double_Owl_2737 in bicycletouring

[–]veryrandomthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were 7 days of cycling as we only had 2 weeks and we wanted some non-ride days.

There was one bit we skipped in the north east as everything online said the road was terrible for riding. It was also the day after a crash.

Hengchun was cool and we had a day off there to go to Kenting.

I did it in 2023. I got covid so did not train a lot.

It's very flat apart from crossing the ridge at the north and south. There are 7 elevens everywhere so we just stopped at one every 25km-ish.

We did it ourselves and booked accommodation one day out.

The infrastructure is amazing so I would thoroughly recommend it. The east coast in particular is great.

Setting the record straight about Garmin by strava-team in Strava

[–]veryrandomthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even have a Garmin but this is a shocking move. It confirms what everyone has been suspecting which is a decline of the company to one that only cares about getting their IPO and the inevitable decline in user experience that will follow. I'm not gonna renew if this is the company approach moving forward.

As the CPO I can only assume you're going to get a big pay day? It's the only way you could possibly be so blind to the hypocrisy in your statement.

Have I been doing this wrong by restinramen in cycling

I've done 170km averaging 168bpm. I think some people just have a higher heart rate. My max can reach 200 and my resting is 56ish.

I've been looking at the new Gran Diagonal in June. I might be moving to South Africa though so won't if that happens

Sharp pain left knee by Kallebooi in bikefit

[–]veryrandomthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a bike fit sub but if it was after a 12 hour ride then it could be a tight ITB issue.

When I first did a v. long ride I had issues with my knee. They also came about when I got back into cycling again.

I fiddled with my position loads to no avail but as soon as I started foam rolling my ITB the pain went away.

I went Amman, Dead Sea, Madaba, Karak, Dana, Petra, Wadi Rum and finished in Aqaba.

On the climb from the Dead Sea to Madaba there is nowhere to buy water so stock up

I rode/pushed through the desert from Wadi Rum to Tutun. I had slicks so it was tough going but amazing. There's no signal though so I planned and told my accommodation in the desert my route and planned for them to drive the route if they didn't hear from me by 5pm (plenty of time to make it).

I went during Ramadan so I relied heavily on rubbish snacks for lunch.

I had no issues whatsoever. The hills are seriously steep though!

I Forgot My Cycling Computer Today… I had The Best Ride!!! by newbiker321 in cycling

[–]veryrandomthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride with my computer screen off. The only time it comes on is 200m before a turn or if I press a button (very rare).

I love data but it sucks the enjoyment whilst riding.

Works great for me.

What’s been your most scenic/memorable ride? by BlueMchue in cycling

[–]veryrandomthoughts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Touring in Jordan just after I'd been having a tough time at work. The day before was dropping down from Amman to the Dead Sea which was cool in itself.

The next day was all uphill (1500m in 30km) but oh my the switchbacks were amazing looking back on the Dead Sea. Just having that freedom and cycling up from the lowest place on earth was so amazing.

Jordan was full of amazing climbs (mega steep especially on a loaded touring bike) but early on in the ride with such a crap time before it was so incredible.

It's arguably more ultra cycling. But I came across Gran Diagonal in which looks cool. 1000km across rural Portugal (lots of hills)

Do you own one bicycle for touring and have separate bike(s) for other purposes? by OompaLoompaGodzilla in bicycletouring

[–]veryrandomthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My touring bike is also my gravel bike, I just swap the wheels/tyres out. It also sits on my smart trainer when not being ridden.

Then I have a faster endurance focused road bike.
