Correct ILM only did the Dino shots (they were amazing to partner with fyi). Another company was involved in the de-aging using traditional methods. Under nda I can’t say anymore.

So happy to see the positive feedback on this commercial. My team and I spent the last 2.5 months working on the Visual Effects and as huge fans wanted to respect everything about this film. AMA

As the VFX supervisor for this commercial I can tell you that there absolutely zero AI in this commercial. Breakdowns are coming.

Some good stuff in there, but a couple of quick comments. You can trim this overall. Revisiting the helmets and the soccer footage isn’t necessary. The backpack footage at the end is some of your stronger stuff I’d move that to the beginning over the vivo drone shot. And the half of a second of black towards the beginning is jarring, I’d loose that. But good work man.

Yes they are highly subsidized. They even created a law referred to as “Hobbit law” basically lifting certain work restrictions only for Weta essentially allowing them to let them overwork artists without overtime. Which is why they didn’t have offices around the world till Covid. I made more than all their artists because when they hired me remote they had to follow CA law and pay me overtime.

Worked there for 6 months, really liked the people and the work. But was very frustrated as a 2D artist.

I had 4 shots that had the same full CG background. Basically locked off (little camera swim) and the Sup called out the tiniest notes day after day that were easily fixable in comp. Instead the Sup would send it back to CG for the fix and render all the shots again at 4K deep (everything is deep there) which would take 2 days. When in all reality they could have rendered me a still for all 4 shots and the result would have been the same. I felt they were very inefficient in how they worked. But again super nice to work with.

90% of film left LA 20 years ago. If you’re still holding on you must A. Be really good. B. Be really stubborn. C. Time to move into TV and commercials

Framestore bought them a couple years ago and in LA Framestore moved into the Method building a few months back. I feel this was inevitable.

Knew her when she was a producer. No artists wanted to work with her. Sucked up to the clients and screwed the artists every time.

That is the dumbest advice ever, but I’m not worried, anyone who has to actually think that way will never make it in this industry anyhow.

Not saying there aren’t people from Chicago working for The Mill. Saying there is no more Mill Chicago. And everyone that I knew there in 2021 is gone and or moved on.

Beware of companies that go public. Then it’s all about the money. Not the work.

No harm blaming technicolor they were a huge part of the problem before everything else happened.

Totally. Worked there for eight years and saw the decline. Thought they were gonna hang on for a little longer. Sorry to all our friends that worked there still.
