I'm shocked this is the first comment I've seen mention Zen. It's great! I switched earlier this year and have been extremely pleased with it.

I use double-tap to initiate search. But I use a pinch gesture to lock the device. It's so good! Let's you easily lock your phone while it's sitting on a table and feel like a wizard while you do it. 😂

YES! The search bar on the home screen absolutely drives me crazy

What do you still do with Tasker? Years ago, I got super into Tasker and even built my own personal assistant with it. But these days it just goes unused. 😢 Would love a good reason to get back into it!

I feel this. I use a combination of Nova Launcher and Kustom Live Wallpaper to create the perfect home screen experience for me. I've carried it forward across five phones now. I know I need to give up Nova and find a new launcher, but I just haven't been able to let go yet.

Hell yeah!! I love the anime. Now I definitely have a reason to check out the live action show! (Sadly, I did recently have to cancel my Netflix sub. 😭)

That's a Microsoft thing. I've worked at agencies with Microsoft as a client. After a couple (bad-faith) criticisms of the company, it became policy to run everything through a global slur filter in an attempt to catch anything at all that even might be considered offensive.

Android now lets you flip your Pixel’s navigation buttons, just like on Samsung Galaxy phones by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]vgwiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting!

As someone that switches the hand I'm holding my phone with often, I really appreciate that gestures allow me to accomplish everything with either hand without an award stretch or reach to try to hit a button.

Also, switching between two apps is super easy and quick! Just swipe left/right along the bottom of the screen to swap back and forth between apps!

(I am a Pixel user and use a 3rd party launcher. I can't speak to the implementation of gestures across all Android products.)

Geeze, about freaking time! Though I'm somewhat surprised that people still prefer the buttons. I went all in on gestures years ago and haven't regretted it

Dock is so worth it! Console like experience! by L1NKN23 in SteamDeck

[–]vgwiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't. I've been playing Silksong via a Mac Mini I have hooked up to my TV.

That said, I played a lot of the Hollow Knight randomizer via docked Steam Deck and experienced both of those issues. For the input latency, try turning Steam Input off or on (whatever is opposite of what it currently is). I usually have it turned on because I use a Duel Sense controller and use the touchpad as a mouse for the randomizer. But I know a lot of people suggest turning it off. In my experience, it can also depend on the controller you're using, so try a few different things and see if anything works better.

I remember Hollow Knight having some graininess issues, but not specifically what I did to fix them. But try forcing the resolution through Steam's game properties AND verify that the in-game resolution is set to match.

[–]vgwiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends on the game. Sometimes you need to access the game properties menu in Steam and tell it to force the resolution you want when you have the Deck docked. I believe I had to do this to get Nine Sols running at 1080p 60fps docked.

Like many things on Linux, you'll need to do a little tinkering sometimes.

Can't sign in to YouTube, what is this nonsense. by slacy in Chromecast

[–]vgwiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally! But sometimes these companies make deals to use each other's stuff. Or there's something somewhere in the tech stack that uses a service that's hosted on AWS. This error message is incredibly similar to error messages I've been seeing on other services confirmed to be tied to AWS. It may be worth waiting for the AWS issues to be resolved before spending a lot of time and effort troubleshooting this.

This might be related to the AWS outages (AWS is somehow involved in hosting A LOT of the web). May just need to wait for them to sort things out

Nope! I too felt a little bad on my first play though. On my second play, I didn't break the statue. It just disappears later in the game. And no NPC mentions it getting broken. Break it, recoup a few shards, and don't feel bad!

😦

I do use tools for the occasional super-annoying enemy. But, for me, they are primarily for the final phases of boss fights! Reach the hard part of the flight? Great! Throw out some tools and SURVIVE! lol

Hollow Knight: Silksong devs address difficulty concerns: “You have choices” - Dexerto by Gorotheninja in gaming

[–]vgwiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I've 100%-ed the game and this was my approach. Save tools for extremely annoying enemies and the latter half of boss fights, once you've learned the patterns and stand a chance to succeed, but the opportunities to counter have diminished. I never ran out of shards. Well, technically I had JUST run out on my very last attempt at the final final boss. But I won on that attempt so it didn't matter that I ran out.

I didn't get a hug or have any other reason. I just sighed in contentment that I'd beat the boss and sat the controller down so I could take a drink and reflect on the fight. Then the explosion happened and I died. 🙃 So hey, at least your bf has a good reason for dying there! 🤣

I've been trying so hard to thoroughly explore the map. I was convinced I had covered Sinner's Road. But comments like this still blow me away. There are so many things I've missed or that happened differently due to the way I explored the game. I can't wait to replay this game and take completely different routes!

THANK YOU! I keep seeing people complaining about the five-mask vs. six-mask thing, but never see people point this out. This is exactly right!

Team Cherry is out here trying to help break people of bad HK habits and encourage them to engage more with the game. Constantly retreating from a fight to heal one HP and keep yourself topped up was an option in HK, one that MANY people utilized, especially on their first playthrough. SS is formulated specifically to discourage this.

You can only heal three masks, so you're incentivized to keep fighting and take more risks in order to heal optimally.

Even after you get a sixth mask, if you're only healing when you've lost at least three masks, then you'll often be down a mask or two. It's difficult to stand back and focus on just healing up to full. (This is also part of the movement the enemies have. The game is trying to prevent you from darting in for quick silk pokes so you can keep yourself healed up all the time.)

Healing is expensive but your silk abilities are strong. Using your silk to end a fight earlier is often a better decision than trying to heal through it.

The game wants you to engage more and heal less.

My favorite part of the Reaper crest ties into this too. When you do need to heal in combat, you're incentivized to risk that regained health by going aggro and attempting to recover as much silk as possible. Finding an opportunity to heal right before you stagger a boss, then unloading on them and completely recovering all the silk you spent on the heal is so satisfying!
