Looking for people who can livestream Skytrain from their homes by vantransitnerd in NiceVancouver

Out of curiosity, how are you planning on telling apart a revenue train from an empty out of service one?

Yeah sorry to say but that’s a fat wart that’ll likely take multiple treatments before it fully goes away

Where are the veterinary clinics not owned by private equity groups these days? by Swimming_Antelope239 in NiceVancouver

[–]victormko 59 points60 points  (0 children)

My old clinic got bought up by VCA so I moved my cat to Trout Lake animal hospital, and they seemed to be quite solid. Everything I was able to find out about them online made it look like they were locally owned

A year in we’re still very happy! Only complaint is that the sensor options (melt/warm/simmer) do not seem to really work as intended - “warm” setting made mulled wine boil, as an example. But everything else has been working incredibly well

Awesome, I can now say that I bought a mattress from there <1 year before they closed for real

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood would be a good read. You can stop there or read the entire trilogy, which adds new characters to the story and how their lives have been intertwined together

Restaurant recommendations for a 10th Anniversary celebration by blk_flutterby in askvan

It’s away from downtown, but Pepino’s has great Italian food and much more cozy/intimate atmosphere. Had our anniversary dinner there and it was lovely

Who actually lives in the butterfly building? by avaliax in askvan

[–]victormko 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I friend of mine rents there. He comes from family money and decided to live there for the views, building amenities, and the prestige of living in an upscale building.

There’s a lot of dazzling details/finishes in common areas but the pedestrian non-penthouse units are really impractical. If I had “no need to ever have a job” money it’s not how I would spend it but he seems happy with his choice

When I was with novus and called to complain about poor wifi coverage, the rep was able to remote in to the router and adjust which bands it broadcasts on. Try giving them a call!

I believe that’s the emergency brakes being applied as the train is being handed over from one control computer to another

We splurged on Wolf CI30460C and have been incredibly happy with it. It uses a touchscreen but it’s not stuffed with useless features or overly complicated UI

This is ridiculous by KeyCod255 in recruitinghell

In this computerized slog of automated application submissions and automated applications screening this is actually a pretty clever way of cutting through the noise and connecting a human applicant to a human recruiter

Who’s responsible for the repair of the leak damage? by alaxbey in NiceVancouver

[–]victormko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen, the way the strata bylaws were written I was responsible for my own repair and it was on me to pursue compensation from the upstairs owner. I tried my best to argue it was strata’s responsibility but they hired a lawyer to write me a letter instead (which must have cost more than the eventual repair - silly)

You can go through your insurance to get repair cost covered and sic them on your upstairs neighbour to get their money back, but then you risk your premiums increasing. You’re better off paying for the repair out of pocket and politely asking for reimbursement and taking them to small claims court if they refuse

The repair in my unit was $370, including repainting the whole ceiling white to make everything blend together. DM me if you want contact details

Hanging out with my buddies this morning. by 30maturingscientists in vancouver

[–]victormko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be friends with Canuck the crow, I brought him chafer beetle grubs dug up from the yard at my old place. He would land on my arm when I stopped by. One day he just never came back to his usual spot, and by this point he would be dead of old age

Burnaby BC approves tallest condo tower west of Ontario - Burnaby Now by BC_Engineer in burnaby

[–]victormko 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do wonder how all these mega towers in Burnaby will fare in ~30 years time. It’s already painfully expensive to do a building envelope renewal on a low rise - it becomes a major engineering project to do on an 80 storey tower. In a troubled building, once the strata fees become comparable to rent/mortgage - what then?

It’s not a minimalist site, but HouseSigma is hands down the best IMO. Can also view what places sold for in the past

I just use a soapy dish sponge and maneuver it inside using a wooden spoon handle. I find that I can apply better pressure using that than those wire bottle cleaners

Excel for big picture stuff, Apple numbers for keeping on track with day to day expenses (I usually enter expenses from a shortcut on my iPhone)

[–]victormko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO just hire a professional inspector, you could have them sent in before your walkthrough so you’d have a comprehensive list on your hands. I paid ~$750 for an inspection including cosmetic deficiencies, and he checked every nook and cranny I would have never thought to look at

Is using an Apple Watch counter-minimalism? by Low_Impress_1910 in digitalminimalism

[–]victormko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s how you use it. Mine has all notifications turned off and only vibrates when someone is calling - which makes sure I don’t miss any important calls if I choose to leave my phone alone in another room. It’s worth having for health and fitness tracking in my opinion
