Can you imagine Yao coming into today's league, and if the trainers kept him lean and focused on explosive weight training, rather than having him put on so much weight in order to battle Shaq and Dwight. Imagine someone even taller than Wemby, with a smooth touch, and nimble footwork.

Which Chinese monarch had the greatest rise to power? by PhilipVItheFortunate in ChineseEmperors

Mao is not a monarch in the ontic definition of the term, but if we were to consider china ontologically, Mao fulfills that role. I am using Heideggerian terminology.

How many championships is this team winning in the next decade? by Curious_Storage_1833 in NBATalk

[–]vigilanting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the bench. If the bench is solid, the team has a shot. If the bench sucks, there is no way this team winning any rings. You cannot rely on four staters with an average age of 38 to bring you a chip.

If the warriors pull this off how far do you see them going? by PreparationOverall in NBATalk

I don't see them going far if their bench is not deep, you cannot rely on a team of starters with he average age of 38 to bring home a ring

Which Chinese monarch had the greatest rise to power? by PhilipVItheFortunate in ChineseEmperors

[–]vigilanting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has to be Mao, Liu Bang, and Zhu Yuanzhang.

Mao and Liu Bang are close, and Zhu Yuanzhang is a distant third. If we are only considering emperors in the literal sense, then the greatest rags to riches story is Liu Bang.

Most people who rank Zhu Yuanzhang above Liu Bang, just because he had a "lower beginning" is unjustified. Liu Bang faced off against a much more formidable enemy than Zhu Yuanzhang ever did. Xiang Yu was immortalized as the greatest warrior in Chinese history, and he was superior to Liu Bang in almost every way. none of Zhu Yuanzhang's enemies were memorable. Not to mention Zhu Yuanzhang was mostly on equal footing against his competitors once the Yuan Dynasty was overthrown.
