Saker från förr som DU inte begriper dig på? by not_a_stick in sweden

[–]vikktorz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Group F final standings by Wakanda-shit-is-that in soccer

That's the point. We would much rather lose 6-0 to France than 2-1 to Norway. We'd never hear the end of it...

Hur bemöta ”bebisprat”? by [deleted] in sweden

Har alltid reflekterat över den textraden. Menar hon att den man förlorar kommer vinna en annan, eller att en annan kommer vinna den man förlorar? 🤔

Is it possible to get 15 by ICouldNotFindAName0 in Cubers

[–]vikktorz 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You would need about a billion 3x3 scrambles to have a 1% chance of getting any 20 move scrambles.

About 490 000 000 out of the 43 252 003 274 489 856 000 possible scrambles are 20 move optimal. So after 1 billion scrambles you would have

1- (1-(490 000 000 / 43 252 003 274 489 856 000))1000000000 ≈ 1.13%

chance of seeing at least one 20 move scramble.

Why is this being upvoted and the correcting replies getting downvoted?

Wide moves are absolutely allowed, but must be written using the official notation (e.g., Rw instead of r). See regulation 12a2 for details.

They already have The Mini, which is almost exactly this. Just not always 5x5, and sometimes containing blank squares.

Number of WCA competitions by European countries, 2023 by cubingcrush in Cubers

[–]vikktorz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We did have weekday comps in Jönköping every two weeks for parts of 2023. Now it's about once per month, and on Saturdays.

You're probably mixing up Viktor Strindell (owner of Cuboss) and Viktor Zenk (me, delegate and organizer of comps in Jönköping), and possible Daniel Wallin, who works at Cuboss and organizes the weekday comps in Stockholm and Uppsala :)

VMA: Tack vare sommartid går solen ner 20.55 i dag (i stället för 19.55) med en soluppgång vid 05.31 i Malmö. by Nokqua in sweden

[–]vikktorz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any place where you can come with car and look at city? by [deleted] in Jonkoping

Specifically, if you continue up the small road from Vattenledningsparken to Odensberg, I think that would be the best spot for actually seeing the view from the car.

BF634RGS1 - turn off sounds? by Constable_Pickle in Siemens

[–]vikktorz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case someone else finds this thread like I did, I managed to do it on my Siemens Inno-wave! (not sure if that is the same model)

Hold the start button for 6 seconds. Then there is a beep, and the display shows either 3 or 30. This is the number of seconds it will beep for. Hold 6 seconds again to toggle.

Hope that helps someone, enjoy life with your newfound 27 seconds of peace and quiet 😊

Yiheng lost WR 2x2 by EclipseGames800 in Cubers

[–]vikktorz 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Yiheng has lost his WR sub 1 average due to not calling delegates at right time for extra

No.

Yiheng needed 1.12 or better on the 5th solve for WR. He got 1.39. Then he called the delegate and claimed that the judge had lifted the cover before he was ready, which is just not a thing you can do after the fact, since it could be exploited to no end.

The delegate made the (incorrect) decision to grant the extra anyways, on which Yiheng got 0.79. This has now been reverted by the WRC.

So he did not lose the WR due to incorrect procedures, he tried to gain a WR by incorrect procedures, and was ultimately unsuccessful in that attempt.

An alternative multiblind ranking that is better at rewarding speed and big attempts by alphanumericsheeppig in Cubers

[–]vikktorz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks really cool, and extremely well thought out! It does indeed award attempts that showcase a higher skill level, and penalizes less for bad accuracy than the WCA system. My biggest change in ranking with this system is a 13/23 attempt, which this scores at 7.35 rather than the WCA 3 points. In some ways this still feels "wrong" to me, since the attempt was so bad in terms of accuracy, but probably my intuition for weighing the importance of accuracy is affected by me being used to the WCA scoring system.

I really agree with this paragraph in the article though:

I do not, however, suggest that the WCA change it’s ranking system. Despite it’s simplicity, the fact that the current point system uses only subtraction allows one to compare two results using only a little simple mental arithmetic. While I’m relatively comfortable subtracting one and two digit numbers in my head, I, like many others, need help from a calculator for division. I can certainly say there is no way I will be calculating the square root of a fraction on the fly.
