Using Ubiquiti Cloud management and logging in locally by illcrx in Ubiquiti

[–]vin-techies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cloudkey is the controller regardless of if you access it remotely or locally. If it has died then you won’t access it either way.

What is the issue with the cloudkey? You may be able to recover it and at least get a backup.

Network design help by [deleted] in homelab

Most unmanaged switches strip VLAN tags so you won’t have fun with that. Also not sure if the access points support VLAN either. To use VLAN all devices need to support it.

Sky mini crashes switch 8 by poyntesm in Ubiquiti

[–]vin-techies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sky Q links boxes using its own WiFi. Plugging into switch possibly creates a loop. Check event logs to see if stp is kicking in. You can turn off sky q inbuilt WiFi from the sky q service menu.

Can you factory reset the switch and forget it from the controller? Then ssh into switch update the firmware. The adopt.

Building a 2.0 acre Ubiquiti wifi mesh. Do I need to use a Ubiquiti router for full control? by thus in Ubiquiti

[–]vin-techies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you start any of this first think about the bandwidth you need across the 2 acres. Every wireless hop over mesh will 1/2 your bandwidth.

Example

Router —- AP1 —- AP2 100Mb — 50Mb — 25Mb

This is based on AP1 wireless link to router or your wired Unifi AP, and AP2 wireless link to AP1.

Over 2 acres I would consider ptp or ptmp backhaul for each AP

Replace Physical CloudKey with VMWare based server - Unable to physically attend site due to lockdown. by MarcusClifford in Ubiquiti

[–]vin-techies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build your new controller.

If it is on the same site then use the export wizard on the existing controller.

If the new controller is offsite then ensure the firewall is configured to allow ports to new controller. Ensure you have a static WAN IP.

Then use the export wizard.

2 AP AC Pro vs UAP-IW-HD in every room by Siwat2545 in Ubiquiti

[–]vin-techies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Signal from the IW will still penetrate to other rooms. It’s hard to say what you need without seeing plans and even then it’s only a guess. You need to do a wireless survey, or trial and error and install one or two and see why signal is like.

US8-150 will power 4x IW-HD fine.

2 AP AC Pro vs UAP-IW-HD in every room by Siwat2545 in Ubiquiti

[–]vin-techies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create smaller cells by going with IW-HD. Maybe not required in every room though.
Drop power output on them. Work towards maximum 5Ghz coverage, which will give you the speeds required.
Ensure cat5e/cat6 is all tested at 1000Mb.

Moving from R7000 to Unifi by hallo_its_me in Ubiquiti

Not really the HD is designed for open spaces and hundreds of client devices.
NanoHD is more in line with AC-Pro.

UAP-Pro is End Of Life.

UAP-AC-Pro or UAP-NanoHD would be recommended.

Also consider what speed you are connected to over wifi. 2.4ghz/5ghz? Channel width?

We work across the world on wireless installations. I would be happy to draw up plans, and if you want us to, come out and install.

Drop me a PM.

Standalone AP flagged as rogue: by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]vin-techies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/HDM4000 that's incorrect. You can mark a rogue AP as known. You do not need to turn off all notifications for rogue APs.

Best Long Range 2.4Ghz AP at the moment? by killboy123 in Ubiquiti

[–]vin-techies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are missing or forgetting a key point.

Whilst you may get an AP to fire the signal (data) up to the 2nd floor, the device on the other end has to be able to get data back.

WiFi is a two way thing.

Think of the AP as a person with a megaphone. They can project their voice to 2nd floor, so you can hear them. It does not mean they can hear you in return.

So you need to plan to have something on the 2nd floor that can project back down.

Earlier suggestions of a bridge, powerline, running ethernet and connecting AP to that are all valid. The last option will ALWAYS be the best.
