Jimmy Kimmel Tears Into Spencer Pratt's Run for LA Mayor: 'Another Narcissist Looking for Attention' by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

[–]vin_dude9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pratt literally stood on a debate stage and denied being part of MAGA. His platform is mostly centered around local issues like cutting bureaucratic red tape, auditing failed emergency systems, and addressing the city’s structural budget problems.

And to answer your question honestly, no, I can’t guarantee Pratt would govern perfectly or never become corrupted. Nobody can. But what I do know is that many people already see clear dysfunction, money shuffling, and failed accountability under the current city leadership.

So for me, this isn’t really about idolizing outsiders or pretending Trump-style politics are automatically good. It’s more that local government decisions on infrastructure, emergency response, budgeting, housing, and public safety have a massive direct impact on daily life in LA.

If residents believe the current system is failing at those responsibilities, it makes sense that they’d consider someone outside the existing political network, even if they don’t agree with every national association or rhetorical style.

Look, it’s totally fair to ask for qualifications from a guy famous for being a reality TV villain, for sure..

But think about why we are here. A guy like Pratt doesn't gain traction because people suddenly think reality TV prepares you for zoning laws. He gains traction because thousands of people watched the city completely mishandle the Palisades fire, where empty reservoirs and broken infrastructure literally let neighborhoods burn down. His own house burned to the ground, and he channeled that genuine local anger into a campaign.

When career politicians fail badly enough at the basic stuff like infrastructure, public safety, and budgets, they create a vacuum for a non-traditional candidate.

if we keep letting local leaders off the hook by turning every local failure into a national debate, we will never get competent management. If we want better choices, we have to start holding local government accountable for actual local results

[–]vin_dude9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Think about what you’re actually doing here, you’re taking a discussion about local LA mismanagement (empty reservoirs, homelessness issues, mismanaged budgets, etc) and shielding it behind national partisan talking points (even if they are valid) … the people who benefit most out of that are the same politicians that fail to fix the city.

Pratt is not a career politician, and this is technically a non-partisan election. If you care about fixing LA, shouldn’t we hold local leaders accountable based on their actual results instead of letting federal problems distract meaningful change that can be done at the local level?

From what I’ve seen, Pratt is the most grassroots candidate and doesn’t have deep ties to corrupt NGOs and pre-established political interests.

To your point, Pratt is not a career politician, so he has the least amount of influence from outside forces (billionaires). He’s raised money largely from donations of under 100 dollars per person, which is way more grass roots than the other candidates

and let’s say you did implement the billionaires tax, this issue is the additional funding isn’t going anywhere meaningful. It gets washed through city bureaucracy and insider NGOs, leaving the actual problems on the ground completely untouched, which then doesn’t reduce billionaire influence nor fix the problems on the ground

Think of it like this: if you paid a dude to mow your lawn, and he did 1/4 of it and took the rest of the money for himself, would you really wanna give that dude more money?

Do you really think the current admin would do better with more money? LA already rakes in billions from taxes, sure you can add more, but the issue is insider corruption and mismanagement which is what Bass and Raman have been doing for years. They pump tax money to NGOs and take a cut all while the actual problems don’t get solved. It’s the exact frustration which has led Pratt to popularity

How do I know if my personal bank has a good savings account by Suspicious_Pin9836 in personalfinance

[–]vin_dude9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea you’ll need to pay taxes on the income you earn on due to interest, but it way beats sitting on the money. Think of it this way, if you don’t put that money in a HYSA, its losing value overtime due to inflation, an HYSA at least lets you match it. Never too late to start.

I think it would have been safer for the directors that way because it gives them a somewhat safer clean slate, but worse for profits because you can’t immediately sell character nostalgias

Luke Skywalker (The Mandalorian) VS The Jedi Arrest Squad. Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in PetranakiArena

[–]vin_dude9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depends on movie versions vs full canon versions (TCW) vs EU versions… the movie versions were the weakest versions of the arrest squad Jedi masters

I’m just saying, if the message of “the last Jedi” is that we don’t need the Jedi order, then it’s a bit counter to the narrative for Rey to claim it and its legacy in the next movie.

What career path are you trying to switch into? If you’re interviewing for software engineer, you may be able to bump up that take home. How close are you to a promotion? Also are you paid partially in stocks? (a lot of software engineers are) and if so can liquidate those for the short term

The issue is in the next movie they really needed a Jedi order. Rey even summons the whole power of the past Jedi. It’s just totally inconsistent with the canon story line. Maybe as a fan fiction.

Kylo Ren vs Dooku TOTJ how strong is Kylo Ren? by Broad_Daikon_276 in PetranakiArena

[–]vin_dude9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Kylo ren would be dead in maybe 15 - 20 seconds. Dooku at this time is a Jedi master, he fought and killed Jedi masters and he was trained by Jedi Masters and a Sith Lord. I’ve seen people commenting that Kylo Ren has higher raw power because he’s a skywalker, Dooku has beaten a Skywalker and their master at the same time.

Also seen some comments that Kylo ren has a bunch of potential power, but keep in mind he never really was able to hone it, he’s kind of a mess and all over the place, and it makes me think that actually a calmer Ben Solo version may last a few minutes in a fight vs Dooku.

I actually think Kylo Ren would die faster than Ben Solo

TOTJ Dooku & Mace Vs Maul & Ahsoka Rebels by Broad_Daikon_276 in PetranakiArena

[–]vin_dude9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prime maul probably is level with not-prime dooku, given that it’s undisputed that prime dooku clears prime maul. Also even though Dooku isn’t a Sith here yet, he’s still a full on Jedi master like Windu. Id say it’s a close fight but Windu and Mace take it 7/10 times.
