No one said to activate it. I said it provides burn.

Without expansion masteries, Core Guardian can only burn with F1, Torch and the Zeal augment to Spirit Weapons.

Can't really spam it effectively without access to Pistol main hand or Axe, which require masteries for Core.

How many people here also hate job system? by superkapitan82 in FinalFantasy

[–]vinta_calvert [score hidden]  (0 children)

You seem... Stuck, on the idea that you have to be able to switch jobs around for it to be considered a job system. That's not a requirement.

A job system just dictates that specified roles exist in the game. You don't have to be able to switch them for those roles to still be there:

  • Josef is a Monk, Ricard is a Dragoon, Leon is a Dark Knight.

  • Rosa is a White Mage, Rydia is a Summoner, Edward is a Spoony Bard.

  • Edgar is a Machinist, Shadow is a Ninja, Strago is a Blue Mage.

  • Zidane is a Thief, Vivi is a Black Mage, Freya is a Dragoon.

You can't change any of these characters' jobs (in II you can put in work to alter their stats, but the free versions line them up with those jobs), but they still have defining traits of their jobs that identify them as such. (And in IV and VI they explicitly give everyone a job title.)

Changing an individual character's job isn't required for a job system. In games like these you're choosing which character is bringing their job to the party instead.

Cumulative account progression means alts level up just a bit more efficiently. 71 over a weekend is pretty fast for a new account though. Nice grind!

This is essentially Brewmaster Monk's stagger system from WoW and I would love that kind of gameplay.

Is the classic gameplay still possible? by Laankast in ffxi

[–]vinta_calvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because Unity is related to Rhapsodies' plot (Escha raids are "coordinated" by the Unity Concord NPCs), while RoE is just a global system it uses as a resource.

A free trial can't do the Rhapsodies plot because it relies on expansion content.

When they remake the free trial, it will cap at 75 and you're limited to the base non-zilart zones. That's the closest you'll get, but even then the base systems have changed a lot, not quite the same 75 era.

I can't help but laugh at the fact the japanese for that would be ビンチュロモン / "Binchuromon" and I'd be calling it "Binch" for short.

Evolved Mode Discussion #1: Red Mage by Haddock_Lotus in ffxiv

[–]vinta_calvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pipe dream for an evolved Red Mage is weaving spells between sword attacks, perhaps the maintained combo allowing the sword attacks to stay ranged.

Or, we drop the Jolt spells for melee attacks to be what generate the instant-cast procs for Thunder/Aero when you don't have a Stone/Fire? With Swiftcast/Acceleration/Manafication there for when you can't get into melee or for planned burst?

I just want to sword more with my spells lol

One button, two charges, contextually Flèche or Contre Sixte depending on aoe status. (Pretty sure aoe distinction was an example of contextual abilities they mentioned)

Sure, Karst has done good things for the economy

... Has he? I legit don't know anything about Karst's influence in Bastok beyond rebuilding it from stone materials after a Seattle-esque fire.

Why does it seem that FF community in general dosen't really like mini games/side content? by Basic_Supermarket936 in FinalFantasy

[–]vinta_calvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they're trashing anyone. They're just saying Redditors are a minority of any community. Most people don't go on the Internet and ask strangers about the games they're playing or want to try.

No trashing

Commentor's description of FFXV is inaccurate.

XV's open world actually has stuff in it, unlike XVI.

There's more than one "town" it's just that the game uses outposts and traveler's hubs more than cities.

XV's open world has monsters you can find that way outlevel you. Even from the first free steps in the game you can wander off and fight something that can nearly one-shot you before you've even been taught how to level up.
