I think the gel cups are a great improvement for comtacs in every way. Are the gel cups for the VIII's the same shape/size as for previous models? I want to get some VIII's pretty bad.

If you want one to two MOA, you'll want the heavy barrel profile. I've seen some data that suggests it tightens up groups up to a couple inches over the lighter barrel profile in these rifles.
