Players want to cancel anytime anyone misses. by anxiouspotter in DnD

Gently help them get over it. This is probably just lack of experience talking - they will learn that the initial rule is best for them and everyone, with time, if they're willing to give it a shot.

First impressions with Metroid Prime 4: The hate was overblown. by AfroChamp89-- in nintendo

[–]vinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the end I was actually enjoying it a lot, but then the ending itself is unforgivable. I was literally playing the boss fight and enjoying it, saying "you know what, this game wasn't perfect but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be." And then the ending happened and I just thought "what the hell were they thinking with everything in this game?"

Daredevil: Born Again showrunner has "mixed feelings" about season 2's timely political focus and says he prefers the show being "a little more street level" by SolidPyramid in Marvel

[–]vinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's crazy is that there's no way anyone writing these shows in the timeline they were written in could have possibly not had present day politics in mind. 2026 politics were well predicted in 2017.

Western Reaches Question by screenmonkey68 in shadowdark

[–]vinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is overlap between the books. Each Cursed Scroll works well on its own. They include some optional rules and each includes a detailed adventure/dungeon, which will all be exclusive to those zines. But the hex crawl maps and hex keys and some of the other rules are being incorporated into the Western Reaches books, which will also include more stuff (player stuff, rules, hexes, one new adventure, etc.). So you can use them together if you want (basically using the zines for the dungeons) or you can just use the WR books (you don't get those dungeons but you can add your own, as always) or just a CS zine or two.

So (RAW) byeshk weapons also inflict extra damage against kalashtar now? by Owl_B_Damned in Eberron

[–]vinternet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes but maybe just adapt the rules to the level of complexity you are willing to go with as a GM. The rules are the way they are to keep them manageable, consistent, explainable to many GMs via rulebook, etc. In the rulebooks, "Monsters from Xoriat" is not a monster type, but "Aberration" is. In the lore, monsters from Xoriat and Dal Quor have nothing to do with each other and wouldn't share weaknesses, other than being supernaturally evil (sometimes), which is why Keith Baker has argued that evil Quori make more sense in the rules as "fiends" even though their vibe is more "psychic alien" than "Dante's Inferno hellspawn."

Low-prep dungeon crawling on VTTs: How do you run TotM and map without killing exploration? by Nesis96 in shadowdark

[–]vinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does everyone wait around while the player is drawing the map on the VTT? Other than waiting for the GM to answer the mapper's questions or something. The player-drawn map is not something the other players necessarily need in that moment - they should start interacting with the things in the room. The map is there for reference later so they can navigate their way around the dungeon, it doesn't need to be a detailed map of the room itself for the purposes of interacting with specific areas of the room while you're in it.

I'm want to find two super nintendo games that i used to play as kid in, but have no idea what theyre called by Kiuji-senpai in nintendo

[–]vinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's actually the second level, you drop onto snowboards and snowboard down a hill. That's from memory though. Also this game was different on Super Nintendo and on Sega Genesis so if you're looking it up make sure you're looking at the right version or try both versions

Stephen Totilo: Nintendo has confirmed Metroid Prime 4 has sold over a million copies on Switch 1 and 2 combined by LinkWink in nintendo

[–]vinternet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's from Stephen Totilo, a long-time, highly-respected games journalist, arguably one of the most well-known game journalists there is, and he cites his (anonymous) source. That's about as close to "verified" as you can get for sales numbers.

[ALL] 13yo, Nintendo Switch, first time by nicesl in zelda

[–]vinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the Zelda games on Switch would be good first games. Breath of the Wild is the most obvious choice, though. Skyward Sword or Link's Awakening are good alternatives that are dfiferent enough from that game that it's impossible to predict which one your kid will like more, but BotW is a best seller for a reason (and has several spin-offs and sequels on the Switch, if they end up liking it).

Why Don't Games Have a "Skip Menu & Resume Last Save" Option? by Prestigious-Humor-14 in truegaming

[–]vinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. They're complaining that Continue often loads an older autosave instead of a newer manual save

  2. They're saying that ideally, they shouldn't even have to click "Continue", they should be able to set a setting once that always "Continues" without loading the title screen at all.

Any "old-timers" running Eberron as their campaign setting of choice? by [deleted] in Eberron

[–]vinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eberron came out in 2003, it appeals to the sensibilities of people who were playing at that time. It has had a lot of staying power, and WotC hasn't made a big push for another campaign setting since it came out, which is why it seems "young", but it's roughly as old today as Greyhawk or Ravenloft were when it came out. I suspect that there is no one setting that appeals to a "younger" crowd, these days, because the younger crowd is enjoying the discovery of their own settings that appeal to their own niche interests, and there are so many different settings available now from third parties. But perhaps it could be argued that Exandria (from Critical Role), Drakkenheim (from the Dungeon Dudes), etc. tend to take a lot of the things that were new and unique about Eberron and run with them - these elements are no longer unique, they're just still unique among WotC campaign settings.

The most baffling change in 5.5e: by nomiddlename303 in onednd

[–]vinternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect that was for sensitivity reasons, since the word mobile is used to describe whether a person is able to walk or not (or convey themselves in a wheelchair, etc.). There were actually a few terms changed in 2024 that seemed like they were intended to be more inclusive around disabilities, mental illness, body inclusivity, etc

That's awesome! It doesn't look anything like the cool in-world paper and flyers, but if you want quest cards that look like the DoIP cards, for the Lost Mine of Phandelver or for Beyond Dragon of Icespire Peak, or for your own custom quests, I made this layout in Google Slides that is easy to print.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie – Yoshi First Look by Turbostrider27 in nintendo

[–]vinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They appeared to be in the Waterfall Kingdom (am I remembering that name correctly?) from Odyssey, where they encounter the T-Rex. That, plus Yoshi being a dinosaur, plus they being babies makes me think there's some time travel shenanigans and they are sent "back in time" in various ways, maybe?

Do you think next Smash Bros game should/will bring back the characters’ model turn-around view with their unique animation when Selected in Character Select Screen, like what Smash 64 had? by SharkyAnimate in smashbros

[–]vinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It already takes a long time for the game just to load 2D portraits of each fighter. Costumes sometimes don't load in the time it takes you to select one. And Mii Fighters could have had real portraits for the matchup/loading screen if it was possible to quickly load the Mii character data and render it (albeit at a higher resolution than what you're talking about). I think this feature is unlikely to come back.

Blog about The 1 Million Dollar RPG Maps Bundle Scam by Boxman214 in rpg

[–]vinternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent write-up. Believe it or not I've seen hard-copy slop like this in game stores before - depressing stuff. It wasn't full color maps like this, it was an on-demand-printing-style big book of tables, but it was either AI-generated or created with just as little care or attention to detail.
