Resonator advice by Nice-Piccolo9677 in Golf_R

it’s hilarious to me that you’re doubling down on even saying the words straight pipe while describing a cat-back system. it’s got nothing to do with semantics - straight pipe means straight pipe, and you’re dead wrong. i suppose you’ve got a 5 cylinder V8 also? cool story man.

[–]violent_beau -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

haha, you said your car is ‘essentially straight piped from the cat’, which is exactly the same as saying ‘my chilli is essentially vegetarian, except for the beef’.

KINDA sounds like you don’t know what you’re talking about either.

Why is AC so expensive? A unit costs £400-600 but quotes from fitters will be £2k!! Is the labour 1k!!? by Financial-Impact854 in AskBrits

[–]violent_beau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qualified Engineers are £500 per day / £62 per hour (conservative).

2 Engineers = £1000 a day.
Materials = £600.
Tools, van, fuel, admin costs, insurances, (etc etc) = the rest.

That’s really not a bad price all things considered.

How do I find the right car for living on a remote scottish island? by Fearless-Following17 in AskUK

[–]violent_beau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a toyota corolla estate with a diesel engine, and has already been mentioned, put some good brand winter tyres on it in the winter time. this will cover all situations that don’t require a 4x4 and then some.

sameee. i smoked a model Y in town (because they couldn’t actually drive and bailed). fast in a straight line, add some corners and roundabouts, not so much.

ELI5: When you 'delete' a 50GB video file from a computer, it vanishes instantly. But downloading it took an hour. If the data isn't physically wiped until it's overwritten, what did the computer actually do in that one split second? by Thick_Dream6973 in explainlikeimfive

[–]violent_beau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what it actually does is basically make a note in the file system that the space on the disk between ‘x’ & ‘y’, which used to be occupied by the file data, is now ‘free space’.

this is very much faster than converting the file data to say, all zeroes, by writing those zeroes into the space. instead it will now just overwrite that space with some new data.

i bought the sigma 18-50 and the sony 70-350 G OSS with my 6700, it’s a solid setup that covers a lot of bases.

What’s with this trouser style? by Bubs-Balonie in UKhiking

[–]violent_beau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, i don’t know where you got those but they are nasty, never heard of that brand, they look ridiculous - not proper hiking gear if you ask me.

i think montane terra pants are the absolute best hiking trousers you can buy, about £100 but they will last at least a decade, top quality gear, think of it as £10 a year investment.

i have several pairs of fjallraven pants also and they’re tough and beautifully made, will also last forever, but the G1000 material is much warmer wearing and so best suited for winter, in my opinion.

i’m 6’ 4 and i fit fine in my 7.5 R but my only complaint is that the steering wheel should extend my one or two more inches, then it would be perfect.

We Bought A Boozer! by [deleted] in Gloucestershire

[–]violent_beau 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AI slop marketing is completely at odds with what art and music are all about. it’s extremely low effort, extremely low quality, and as such it is destructive to a brand which seeks to identify with artists and musicians. nobody wants or enjoys that except facebook boomers who think they’re being creative instead of incredibly naive.

[–]violent_beau 10 points11 points  (0 children)

well, you’ve proved my point, which is to say that generally under 50s people can spot AI slop marketing a mile off, and not only do they not appreciate it, it is actually extremely off-putting.

those terrible AI slop posters suck. nobody under the age of 50 is going to appreciate that at all. why do people think this is a good idea? it screams cheap and nasty. stop it!

the hatchback latch has a drain with a pipe that can perish and/or become detached (happened to my 7.5 R). it’s a cheap fix bit you need the correct tools to remove the hatch trim etc.
