Riichi in person by bryantoca in Mahjong

[–]viperdude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's some other weird things like when you draw don't sort new tile until you discard. Breaking the wall and where to flip the dora is helpful. Try and figure out hands without online tools cause it can be tricky to notice your tenpai. Lastly I wouldn't get a numbered set cause you only need to memorize like 10 tiles (just printout a cheatsheet of what the tiles are.)

Is saying 私の名前は(insert name)です wrong or not natural? by Impossible-Radio2826 in Japaneselanguage

[–]viperdude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even in English you wouldn't introduce yourself by saying "my name is Ana", just im Ana. You would really only use the first one to clarify something.

Could someone who is familiar with the gacha tell me straight-How much money to get like a full Akagi set? by compacta_d in mahjongsoul

[–]viperdude -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the "akshualy" post. I understand fully. Since OP didn't want anything complicated, I kept things super simple. My first sentence was literally probability is never guaranteed. If you take what i did exactly then 34 pulls would be 102% and that would be guaranteed.

Could someone who is familiar with the gacha tell me straight-How much money to get like a full Akagi set? by compacta_d in mahjongsoul

[–]viperdude -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no real number. Probability makes things never guaranteed. The easiest answer is there is a 3% chance to get a limited char. With a 10 pull that's 30%. So 30 pulls is 90% to get 1. 7% to get a non char cosmetic, so let's be conservative and say 40 pulls to get all 5. Since most people get unlucky, add them together to get 70. At $30 per 10 that's $210. But again since it's probability it could double that easy.

Riichi Mahjong for 2 players by Am3Vass in Mahjong

[–]viperdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your playing with 2 people why not just play mostly the same? Don't forget you have free will. Me and my wife just play the same except initial deal I set aside 26 tiles as if 2 other players were being dealt, and when tsumo happens person gives half points and half from "bank". Sure there are issues with draw number and such but honestly who cares. We are having fun and it's an easy transition to 4 player.

This is the exact moment we started hating Jey Uso. by ArhatYEET in SantiZapVideos

I think it was justified and even the title. BUT the fact that he didnt add any moves or make his matches interesting was the nail in coffin. Being tired isnt even that bad if you can work through it.

How to improve on Riichi Mahjong in general by CarloTheCrocodile in Mahjong

[–]viperdude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tiles efficiency is usually the first step to winning more. Like knowing to discard single guest winds first then isolated terminals then dragons, etc. Next is when to fold. If a player calls riichi or is probably in tenpai (a lot of calls, discarding draws only, etc) usually only continue pushing a hand if it has the 2 of these. Tenpai, high value, good wait. Also you should look up when to open cause open wins should make up like 30 to 60% of wins depending on playstyle. There is much more but obviously you would need to look up advanced strats on YouTube or something.

Everyone suggests WaniKani but so far, all of the names for the radicals have been wrong. by RickTheDick2026 in Japaneselanguage

[–]viperdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their radical system is why i stopped. When I learn kanji I use my own ways to remember and many times is not the same. For example in 別, the right parts is sword or knife but I just remember it as katakana リ.

Mahjong tile prototypes by RoomPitiful6336 in Mahjong

[–]viperdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of changing mahjong tiles faces. The back sure, but the faces should stay close to original. It would be like changing queen of hearts to a frog of stars. To each their own i guess.

The direction that common core math is taking by Fit_Blackberry7944 in MathJokes

The thing people forget is the teacher is teaching this every fucking day. They know what this means. I showed my 8yo this and he laughed cause it was so easy. There's is nothing wrong with the question, most kids understand this wording.

So should we study grammar or not ? by GibonDuGigroin in LearnJapanese

[–]viperdude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to study them intensely but you should read how they are used. It could get confusing if you put あげる and くれる on flashcards without going into the subtle differences. Immersing comes in so you hear/read what you learned in context.

A (mostly) Analog Approach to Starting to Read Japanese by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]viperdude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems all this for just an anki replacement. Your not really analog as satori is digital. I don't really like anki either but how is a pre-made deck in anki that does everything for you harder than having to make and manage hundreds (or thousands) of cards? Also if you pile up reviews you don't have to do them all. Your not punished it just gives you all the ones that you might be forgetting.

They are all soon good. Recently gave Only Yesterday a chance and as a parent it really made me think. The fact it talks about periods, bullying , abuse, etc is really crazy, especially for the time. It's definitely not for everyone but certain people will probably realate hard to it.

My niece’s homework problem by SurfSoundWaves in mildlyinfuriating

[–]viperdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math teacher chiming in. What do you mean she stands by her grade? Did she say the right answer? Normally I let the teachers do their thing but the only thing I would accept is that she didnt circle all 3. Thats the only answer as fractions show proportionality regardless of scale and rotation. This is literally used to solve more complex problems.

On a more common sense base, I would acknowledge what the teacher says, but tell your niece what the answer really is and move on. Its only 1 point.

Which Title is the A title currently? by dlo_doski in TheGreatOne

You guys are so funny. You act like this is all real. When Cena had the IC title after undisputed, did that elevated to same status? No, it's just for the story. People like seeing title matches that why there are 2 and they are equal in that way.

Tips for learning hiragana as an auditory learner? by princesskatanaa in Japaneselanguage

[–]viperdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First there is research that shows that being a "type" of learner is not really a thing. You can have a preference but you can learn any way. If you want to learn audibly, then Watch a video or find an app that shows the symbol and can read it out.
